This was our 2nd Ghost Hunt here we went to. If you like that kind of thing I definitely recommend the Thomas House. Desk bells were ringing with no one around them. Odd noises. And in our room the first time we stayed we woke up to the lights on and we didn't turn them on. This last visit we took pics of everything in the room before we put suitcases or anything else in there to compare and we're so glad we did. 2 little porcelain statues appeared on the sink that was not there. I love this place. You get dinner with the package. The first time we had baked chicken & veggies and it was pretty good. This last time I'm just going to say the meals need some improvement. Everything else was great. From the people running the place to the people doing the ghost hunts are very nice and will answer all questions. I've been twice and will definitely be going back. I went in expecting nothing but hocus pocus, it was just the opposite! The old hotel is beautiful with all the creaks and sounds of an old haunted house. This was a treat and I loved every minute of it, most of the staff was amazing. I went with a group of friends as a last minute stand it and I will go back. The younger man (I think he was running it) came up on stage with so much energy and gave us a lot of tips and pointers to look for! The food was good, you could tell the kitchen staff knows what they are doing. The only complaint I think I would have is the older woman that checked us in, I couldn't tell if she was drunk, high or both and she was definitely not personable. I've always wanted to experience a ghost hunt. This beautiful old historic site gave a delightful, slightly cheesy experience. The rooms were comfortable...not extravagant. The food was very good...loved the biscuits. The only negative was a very cold shower. The decor was designed to be spooky and cheesy. But it was fun and highly recommended. If you're looking for an upscale hotel, this isn't for you. If you're looking for ghosts, then this is a can't-miss place! We stayed here for one night, but I wish we could have stayed longer. The hotel is owned by a family, and while we were there, they treated us like we were part of that family. We were lucky to get both dinner and breakfast, both of which were home cooked and absolutely delicious. We were treated to stories about the home's history as well as their paranormal experiences. The house is very old and has creaky floors and wonky plumbing and some might think it needs a new coat of paint, but all of this contributes to the house's charm. When I want to stay in an old, haunted house, this is what I'm looking for. If you stay here, I recommend booking a few weekday nights and avoid the ghost hunt weekends. The family is very open to people wandering around on their own. Just be respectful and remember that this is their home. They've filled the house with collections of antiques, so be careful not to break any, and for the love of god, don't steal from them. I came with two friends to Thomas House this past weekend on a Ghost Hunt package. One or two weekends every month, the Ghost Hunt Weekends crew led by Chad Morin rent out the entire hotel and for $99 a person, you get one night's lodging, dinner, a midnight buffet, breakfast and all kinds of ghost hunting activities through the night. All other times, Thomas House operates as a bed and breakfast and puts on plays and shows throughout the year, but the ghost hunt weekends seem to be a primary part of their business and plays a prominent role on their website. This review is for the hotel itself, not the GHW organization. Thomas House is beautifully eerie on the outside, located in the small town of Red Boiling Springs about an hour and a half from Nashville. On the inside, it's packed full of antiques, including an entire room of creepy dolls. There are beautiful chandeliers all over the hotel, and the rooms are of good size, clean and comfortable (if you're able to sleep through the night). We stayed in a room with a double bed then a single bed in a small attached room and had plenty of room. Built in the late 1800's and the site of fires, murders and even a cult at one time, the hotel provided plenty of paranormal experiences for our little group of first-time ghost hunters. I was very skeptical these would be staged by the hotel or GHW crew, but there's no way what we heard and saw could have been set up, as there were times the three of us set out on our own and left the larger group (there were about 40 guests there in total). With so many people roaming over the property, there would have been no way to anticipate who would be where to stage the voices and lights we saw and captured on video and voice recorder. The owners live in the hotel along with their son, daughter-in-law and grandson. They were very kind and gracious and were always around for questions or a chat. The food was Southern inspired and while it wasn't gourmet, it was perfectly acceptable and sustained us through the long night. The hotel has been featured on Paranormal State and Ghost Hunters, and the weekends quickly fill up, so if interested, I advise you make reservations at least a couple months in advance (longer if you want a specific room, such as room 37 featured on Ghost Hunters). read more

What a fun adventure. I was a little bummed we got the only downstairs room, but oh well. We did have some wierd things going on but not sure it was spirits. Look for the Ghost Hunter to her and they were all very nice but a little too eager and enthusiastic. All in all it was a fun experience! read more

"The Addams Family meets The Clampetts" When one arrives at the Thomas House Hotel, one is greeted with a picturesque setting; gorgeous landscaping, a lovely water fixture, and stunning arches decorated with lush ferns take one's breath away. The enormous porch is quaintly decorated with rocking chairs, benches, and wicker furniture, pillows, flowers, and quirky animal statues/gargoyles. But alas, the excitement and anticipation dissipates the moment the doors to the hotel open ... and they mean what they say on the Web site about opening doors. Visitors are NOT allowed in one moment earlier than 4 p.m. CT, so, depending on the weather, plan on sweltering or freezing on the porch if you happen to miscalculate the drive time. Upon entering the hotel, the smell of mothballs and mildew was overpowering; but although it was offensive, the members of my party and I dismissed it as the odor of a "haunted abode." We received our key from the front desk clerk and climbed the creaky grand staircase to our rooms which were decorated as one might expect -- with antique chachkis, chamber pots and wash basins, grandma's quilts, and lace curtains. We didn't expect the modern conveniences one might get at other hotels, but we were astonished at the disrepair. The floors were sharply sloped, the toilets were sized for kindergarten students (all of them) and in our room, were dirty with black mildew, and the showers had no hot water. In the dining room, where most of the action takes place, the ceilings were stained and condensation dripped onto the tables from an air conditioning vent. Sticky plastic tablecloths were likely never removed for cleaning. And the food was repellent. For dinner we served ourselves an entree resembling some dried meat casserole, cabbage, corn muffins, and banana pudding. The pudding reappeared at breakfast, which also consisted of cold rehydrated eggs, overcooked and also cold sausage patties, country ham, gravy, and cold biscuits that could have been used as hockey pucks. The owner/resident allowed her grandchildren to run around the dining room in the morning, handling the serving spoons and hovering over the food, which made it even less appetizing. The best meal of the experience was the midnight snack -- boiled hot dogs and chips -- but since the staff didn't leave enough plates or condiments out, the guests had to rummage through the kitchen themselves to find what was needed. None of these things would have mattered, however, if the Ghost Hunt experience had been up to par. We hoped to learn about the history of the house and its occupants and to see *real* ghost hunters at work. Instead, we were served up two incredibly boring and outdated videos: an episode of Ghost Hunters from 2012 and a video created by our host Chad Morin, in 2016. As an aside, the staff chatted loudly during the videos, as I'm sure, they'd seen them dozens of times, making it difficult for many of the "guests" to hear. Morin, a supposed expert on the Thomas House, was present in body at the event, but came off as a hack, not even knowing the names of the staff members when introducing them. Everything started later than advertised, he had nothing to say of any substance, and his oral presentation was self-serving and flat. Needless to say, his goal was to get guests to buy novelties, not get us excited about the ghost-hunting experience. Finally, the ghost hunting itself consisted of two local "guides" taking us to three different parts of the house -- two hallways and a sitting room -- and encouraging us to ask the ghosts a series of questions (but only certain kinds of questions). They did not know the history of the house, going along with a guest who asked if the house had served as a Civil War hospital. It could not have been, of course, because it was built in 1891, a member of our party quickly explained. Although our guides had lots of tricks for the ghosts to do including talking through noise machines and playing with colorful cat balls, the only "responses" we got from the "spirits" were communicated through flashlights. We spent Saturday night, May 4th with a paranormal group investigating the Thomas House hotel. Dinner, midnight buffet and breakfast included. The hotel itself is what you'd expect of a building built in 1890. It was filled with lots of antiques and definitely felt like you were in a building from that era. We stayed in ghost Sarah's room #37. The room was a bit stuffy but very clean and well kept. No frills hotel/b&b. What we expected for the area and experience. The meals were plain and just okay. The paranormal folks rented the whole hotel and made the trip fun and exciting. The owners and extended family including three small children dined with guests for breakfast on Sunday. They let kids ages 3-8 maybe help themselves to the buffet which was awkward and kids running around the chafing dishes/flames was a bit unnerving. I felt the owners could have been more cordial and missed an opportunity to mingle a little with their guests- promote their business. There's not much else in town so you do have to eat at the hotel or eat before you arrive. Don't go really hungry. The paranormal group made this trip fun. I'd Expect more friendliness and better experience if this was a true bed and breakfast getaway. read more

It's been two years since my last visit to the Thomas House and I was super excited to be going back. I had a group of 12 people with me, and from the moment we arrived until the moment we left it was a disaster. I was so sad and so disappointed to see the hotel in this condition and it's obvious they aren't able to keep up with basic required maintenance. I know both of the brothers are experiencing health problems, and running any hotel can be difficult and requires a lot of time, labor and money. Here's some of what my group encountered: 1. After I checked in and was given the key to my room, I discovered there was a strange man taking a shower in my bathroom 2. In room #41, the propane gas smell was so strong the couple had to switch to another room. The smell was also present in the hallway but the odor was bearable. (When I was there two years ago they were having the same problem with the gas smell!) They really shouldn't even rent out room #41. 3. Two kittens were trapped in the walls between the kitchen and the dining room, crying and trying to scratch their way out, and the hotel owners plan on leaving them in there to die 4. In the newer hallway the temperature never got below 80 degrees, and the bedrooms in the other hallway were freezing. The hotel owners set the thermostat set on 65 after we complained about how hot it was, but obviously the air conditioner needed some maintenance. 5. There's black mold on the ceiling in several locations 6. Lots of electrical problems. In one room, there were two different sleeping areas and then the bathroom, and the lights were not working in 2nd sleeping area and in the bathroom. In another room, not a single light would work! Most of the ceiling lights and lamps throughout the hotel weren't working. 7. Evelyn wasn't feeling well and another woman checked us in. From 5pm to 7pm, she sat in the dining room (where the two kittens were trapped in the wall and crying) and ate dinner while her two children hung out with us. They were both absolutely adorable, but they both were little chatterboxes while we were trying to get the equipment ready for the investigation. Thankfully they both had to go take baths at 7pm. This used to be my all-time favorite location, but after this experience I'll never be going back again. read more

Been a long time since I stayed here. Once rented the whole place for my motorcycle club. We had a ball !!!! I have eaten here several times in the last few years. They had some terrific food. They changed the format and they began serving Sunday Brunch every other Sunday and that lost my interest. May do them again. May not.............. read more
