Go back in…read moretime I love Wellfleet, it's my favorite part of the Cape. We have been coming here for years, owned property here and still have friends we frequently visit. Surprisingly it really hasn't changed that much over the years. Sure the traffic on Rt. 6 is still hellish during the summer but then it was always pretty bad. Most of it is heading toward P-Town and just going through Wellfleet. The town does get crowded during the summer but you can still find quiet places to get away. The center of town is about as quaint and New England as it gets. A few little stores, a couple of restaurants and a beautiful church. What really makes Wellfleet special is that most of it was left undeveloped.. Just one lovely place after another that was left pristine and wild. Most of the entire east side is dunes and beach. Wellfleet is a great place for walking along a lonely beach, biking on the trails or kayaking in the harbor. If you want some excitement P-Town is only a short drove to the north. If you want to go out to the islands Hyannis and the ferries aren't too far away, although in the summer it might take a while to actually get there. Like most of the Cape Wellfleet is the nicest in the off season when it becomes quiet, lonely and very, very special.

During the summer we only come by boat so road rage doesn't set in but then we're faced with the hordes of tourists in town. It's still a terrific place to be but the fall is something extra special. It was a gorgeous, sunny and warm day for a walk around the picture-perfect New England center of town, with plenty of time and space to wander into some of the shops and galleries. We are boaters so we like checking out the harbor and looking around at other people's boats. There were still plenty of them to see down at the town pier. The beach is beautiful and ideal now for a peaceful walk with the incredible dunes behind you. The pace was really relaxing, unhurried and with comfortable temperatures. This is a great town for walking and biking. It's so worth a trip down this time of year. Go if you can.

Had an amazing visit to the Highland Lighthouse. We were able to get a tour on May 1st, the first…read moreday they were open for the season. When you arrive you can buy your ticket in the gift shop. The gift shop had a great selection of items to choose from and we picked up a lovely print. Tickets were $10 per adult. The tour takes you to the top of the lighthouse which requires a lot of climbing and fitting into narrow spaces. Our tour guide Ken was the best! He helped to enhance our experience with his knowledge of the lighthouse and the historical information shared. He was also very conscious of our safety and made me feel at ease despite how narrow some of the climbing areas got. He was happy to chat with us and answered any questions we had. Highland lighthouse is the oldest and tallest lighthouse on Cape Cod. The views are absolutely worth the climb, as well as all of the historical background. Well worth the $10. Happy we made it in time for the last tour of the day. It was a one of a kind experience.

Oh darn, Jamie W and I had just missed Audra McDonald's appearance here with Seth Rudetsky by a…read moreweek. I would've loved seeing them in a vintage community hall setting like this. As it turned out, we were in Provincetown the following weekend when gay comedian Matteo Lane was appearing. It wasn't cheap, almost $120 for two seats in the balcony. We lined up on the grounds around the historic building and waited about an hour before they let us in. Entering the cavernous hall, I felt like I was in one of those late show movies where the suspicious townsfolk would be listening to a boyish Jimmy Stewart begging for their support for some cause like a new fire engine. Chairs were set up in long rows, and the acoustics were quite good. We could hear Matteo's punchlines pretty clearly from the balcony. I love coming to the Provincetown Hall to see performances. I have seen so many great performances…read moreby the most talented performers. I have always gotten balcony seats and it's a great view from up on the second or third floor. The Town Hall is beautiful on the inside and out. They always have the best musicians come whether they're vocalists, pianists, violinists, etc. Sometimes they'll have famous award-winning performers. I always look forward to seeing a performance. They have bathrooms accessible and easy to find as well. After a performance, you'll also more than likely be able to find souvenirs sold by the entrance/exit. They always have the most talented guests come and perform.

The Cape Cod National Seashore is well worth a visit while in Cape Cod. The National Parks Service…read more(NPS) does an excellent job of preserving this area, welcoming guests with the Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham and the Province Lands Visitor Center at the north end of the cape near Provincetown. We visited the Salt Pond Visitor Center, which is about as as good as it gets for a NPS facility, as it has a ranger station, maps, a beautiful viewpoint of Salt Pond, a museum, restrooms, gift shop, and a theater playing multiple historical films to help orient yourself to Cape Cod and learn a bit of its history. The Nasuet lighthouse is only a few minutes away, well known nationwide as the lighthouse pictured on bags of Cake Cod potato chips. We also visited Herring Cove Beach just as the sun was setting, which wasn't too crowded later in the day. The visitors centers are free to visit, although some of the beaches do have lots you need to pay to access. Overall, the Cape Cod National Seashore is well worth a visit while visiting Cape Cod, and has wonderful facilities to welcome guests that I'd happily recommend to others.

One (the year round one) is centrally located, while the second one is at the tip of the cape. The drive is easy with views along the way. I definitely recommend a National Parks Pass as it allows access to parking & well maintained restrooms, showers & changing rooms. All the Rangers were friendly & helpful in mapping out a full day's visit ensuring we hit the main spots. Do not miss the Lighthouse that was used for the Cap Code Chips. Make sure to bring a bag for photo opportunities or u may be asking someone to use theirs- LOL

I had to get some shipping supplies for a gift I was sending out and I stopped at the Post office…read moreto get the supplies. The lady behind the counter was really helpful and sweet. It was great seeing the "old fashioned" post office boxes from years past...a really nice vintage look. The building is beautiful, the actual post office area is located in a 2+1⁄2-story brick building that was built in 1930. The main facade has a loggia-style arcade of three arches on the first level, leading to a recessed entrance. The second story has three large windows across, and the gable end has an oculus window and dentil moulding. The building is crowned by a cupola. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

I wanted to send out postcards I brought and needed stamps. They ran out of postcard stamps…read more(postmaster was sick. Hope better but back up plan needed). The woman who helped me had her math work cut out for her. And she was amazing and friendly and way better at math than me. My friend will be getting some fun tourist postcards filed with tons of lovely stamps. I think I forgot to address the one for Lisa though. I really appreciated the effort the post office put into helping me get 34¢ of stamps per postcard. The building was a nice handicapped accessible brick structure.

I found the Wellfleet public library to be a rather pleasant place. They have great skylights and a…read morefriendly staff. Some nice places to read and it wasn't too crowded when I went. They had an excellent pile of puzzles. Furthermore, they displayed great wall art all around the library by different artists. My favorite was this rug with fishing boats. The Wellfleet Public Library is part of the CLAMS system, which, if you aren't already, I highly recommend you join!

A library with a…read more porch Wellfleet is a pleasant little town on Cape Cod. It's typical of many Cape Cod towns with beautiful beaches, great dunes, open ocean and a unique charm. So it's quite appropriate that the town has a beautiful and unique library. The library is actually quite new and the books weren't moved into the building until 1989. Before that the official Wellfleet Library took a circuitous route that took them into several different locations around town. Seemed the library was always jumping around. The first library started in 1893 when the books were just sort of piled in the back of the First Congregational Church. Over the years the library took up residence in a bank, dry good stores, town hall and finally an old curtain factory. The poor books certainly had to move around a lot over the years but finally have found a permanent home. The present library is a wonderful place. The first thing that catches the eye is the huge porch. A great place to sit outside and read, talk to friends or just relax. The inside has over 10,000 square feet and separates into several rooms which makes it a convenient place to hold meetings, events and displays. Of course the library has all the usually amenities of a modern library and helpful and extremely pleasant and friendly librarians but it's the cool, rustic and unique charm and great porch that makes this library special. It took a century to find it's permanent home but I suspect that the library is going to be in this spot for a long, long time.

Provincetown Veterans Memorial is located on back corner of town hall. This memorial pays tribute…read moreto the local men & women who served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Simple in design, with 4 large plaques that have names inscribed, but worthy of our review and appreciation. There are 2 large benches to sit and reflect, and the flag pole at the back stands tall overhead. Thank you Provincetown.
