There's a small park and some picnic tables as well as a sign about the history of the lighthouses that, unfortunately, seemed kind of weathered. We made a stop here because we'd never seen it, out of town friends mentioned it to us as interesting and, well, we were running out of outdoor places to explore during COVID. We then took a walk on the beach. Cute if you're a lighthouse enthusiast or you want to do something outdoors as well like walk the beach, but I wouldn't make a special trip just to see these little lighthouses.

It is a short walk from the main (in season paid) lot at Nauset Beach but I parked in one of the 2 spaces on the side of the road at the site. There are actually 3 parking spaces at The Three Sisters. One is accessible. There is an informational sign at the site telling about how "Three Sisters Lit the Way". This has great information but read more details online. You can see why these are on the register of historic places. Don't be surprised 2 of them don't have a light any longer.

The home of a New Bedford whaling captain built in the mid 1800s, the Penniman House has been preserved as a National Historic site on the Cape Code National Seashore, and the house is just beautiful. We couldn't find info on hours or tours on the website, so we headed out to the Cape hoping that we'd get lucky, but apparently the house is only open T-Th from 1-4, with guided tours on Saturdays. Nevertheless, it was a fascinating visit. The grounds are tiny, though, so don't go expecting some vast tract of land and giant house a la Tory Row in Boston. This was very minimalist as far as European style was concerned, but for a house on the Cape, it's pretty amazing. All of the original details on the moldings are still intact, and peering through the windows, we saw that the old floors and wallpaper had been also preserved. There is also a beautiful carriage house. The most awesome thing about this house has to be the whale jawbone entry gate when you first walk up to it from the parking lot. It's a real sperm whale jawbone painted white and affixed to posts of wood to act as an archway. Minus one star for the weird hours plus scant information on the weird hours online. The Cape Code National Seashore site is confusing as it is; I really think they should maybe look at redesigning their site to make it more accessible. But I definitely recommend the Penniman House as a short stop if you're on Route 6 on your way up the Cape. It's a nice 15 minute break and a great photo op.

Provincetown is a fun place for tourists of all ages with lots of great places to stay as well as fun boat rides where you can go whale watching, cruise the harbor and just enjoy a few days in a fun town. Based on the traffic along Route 6, I'm sure many people drive there and just enjoy a day of walking around the town, enjoying the great restaurants and shopping. One of the coolest experiences we had was ( believe it or not!) inside the Provincetown Public Library. It's hard to believe it until you see what's on the third floor of the library. There's a replica of the Rose Dorothea, one of the famed " Indian Head" schooners! It was built over a ten year period of time and is something to behold. You might not think that's a reason to go to Provincetown but there are many unique aspects to this lovely town and definitely worth exploring!

Even the art galleries were uncomfortable to go into. Pandemic or not I think we're going to have to find another spot. Yeesh.

Alright. So,…read moreyou're into Pharology and you find yourself in the mid-Cape Cod region. Where are you going? Here, of course. Let's keep this tight and brief. If you come you've got a decent sized parking lot with maybe 100-ish spaces. I would imagine in season on summer weekends, no comment on how diabolical it must be to get a space. For our visit, no such issues. Mid-April weekend with maybe ten other cars. To me, there are three things to do here: 1. You're going out the southeast corner of the parking lot and down the path to the beach. 2. You're taking the walk down Cable Road to see what's left of the Three Sisters Lighthouses. Yes, there is a very small "lot" there that you can drive to but it's also very walkable although at least to me, the sisters aren't much to look at considering what's left of them. 3. The actual lighthouse itself. www.google.com/maps/place/Nauset+Lighthouse/@41.8597353,-69.9516991,596m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m6!3m5!1s0x89fb65fd06b8316b:0xbf5c17f8a7fb30c9!8m2!3d41.8601357!4d-69.9529498!16zL20vMGR5MGdt?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDQyMi4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D If you're looking to climb here's the '26 schedule: static1.squarespace.com/static/58d3b9d8e6f2e19c40afa7d6/t/69d85ec2e179236def9f0375/1775787714973/2026+hours-8x11.pdf Historical context: www.nausetlight.org/history Pay a pretty penny to stay in the Keeper's House next door: www.nausetlight.org/stay And yes, of course, blah, blah, blah, Cape Cod Potato Chip bag lighthouse, blah, blah, blah. As it turned out, we were in Provincetown the following weekend when gay comedian Matteo Lane was appearing. It wasn't cheap, almost $120 for two seats in the balcony. We lined up on the grounds around the historic building and waited about an hour before they let us in. Entering the cavernous hall, I felt like I was in one of those late show movies where the suspicious townsfolk would be listening to a boyish Jimmy Stewart begging for their support for some cause like a new fire engine. Chairs were set up in long rows, and the acoustics were quite good. We could hear Matteo's punchlines pretty clearly from the balcony. The decidedly old-fashioned place really fits the small town vibe even if it's on busy Commercial Street. RELATED - Exploring Provincetown? A library with a…read more porch Wellfleet is a pleasant little town on Cape Cod. It's typical of many Cape Cod towns with beautiful beaches, great dunes, open ocean and a unique charm. So it's quite appropriate that the town has a beautiful and unique library. The library is actually quite new and the books weren't moved into the building until 1989. Before that the official Wellfleet Library took a circuitous route that took them into several different locations around town. Seemed the library was always jumping around. The first library started in 1893 when the books were just sort of piled in the back of the First Congregational Church. Over the years the library took up residence in a bank, dry good stores, town hall and finally an old curtain factory. The poor books certainly had to move around a lot over the years but finally have found a permanent home. The present library is a wonderful place. The first thing that catches the eye is the huge porch. A great place to sit outside and read, talk to friends or just relax. The inside has over 10,000 square feet and separates into several rooms which makes it a convenient place to hold meetings, events and displays. Of course the library has all the usually amenities of a modern library and helpful and extremely pleasant and friendly librarians but it's the cool, rustic and unique charm and great porch that makes this library special. It took a century to find it's permanent home but I suspect that the library is going to be in this spot for a long, long time.
