I love their meats and they did a nice job processing my mule deer and antelope last year. But, there's one particular young lady that works there who is rather hateful. I went in today and there she was....seemed very bothered that she had to stop what she was doing to come help me. No other customers were present and she obviously didn't want to be there. I ordered and she took her time. When checking out, I took high road and thanked her. She didn't even acknowledge. She acted like this another time I was there. read more

As a deer processor this place ranks as one of the worst processors I have ever used. Quality of work is very poor and there seems to have been several corners cut. Picture is of 1 stew meat package that was packaged with deer hair and tallow still attached which for those of you that know venison is what contributes to most off flavors. I was able to use about 1/3 to 1/2 of each package of stew meat. Also I'm fairly certain they used deer fat/tallow to cut the grind I ordered, everything left waxy substance in roof of my mouth and held meat together poorly. These folks either didn't know what they were doing or didn't give a darn! Wouldn't recommend taking any wild game to processed here. read more

The customer service on the front end of the shop is friendly, helpful and efficient. The quality of the meat and tamales in the store is exceptional and priced fairly. The freezer packs are also well priced and provided a good assortment to choose from. Only irritant is their website shows hours open incorrectly (glad I called ahead). We have been buying meat from Old Plantation for 30 plus years. The quality of the meat has only gotten better. We love the filets and chicken breast. Although we love everything. We have a daughter that lives near Houston who places her order for when we go to visit. We have never been disappointed. We go there once a month. I recently moved from Minnesota to TX and was lucky enough to meet a couple of guys that let me go deer hunting with them this fall. Although the deer are a bit smaller than what I am used to up North, it was fun nonetheless. I looked up meat lockers in the DFW area that would be close to my house. Old Plantation is about 30 mins. away and it was worth the drive. All I brought in was my pre-quartered 8pt buck that was roughly 170lbs. I brought in the front, rear and most of the trimmings. Only thing I didn't bring was the back straps. I had them all made into jalapeno/cheddar summer sausage and some snack sticks. This was around 25-30lbs. I was concerned they would turn out too smokey, as this is the case in a lot of places. I was pleasantly surprised that they turned out awesome!!! They were prefect amount of smoke, and flavor. I would have like a little more kick from the jalapeno, but I think I could ask for that next time. I served these on a meat and cheese platter for the holidays and everyone loved them. Even the non-hunters!! They weren't greasy, or too fatty. Just perfect. It took about 3 weeks for processing, the results were great, and I will definitely go back. I would highly recommend this place, and have to the guys that took me hunting. Prices are pretty standard from what I saw online. Give this place a try, you won't be disappointed. read more

Best beef jerky EVER! and they have other spare parts to give your dog as treats

I recently took a small hog here to be processed into breakfast sausage. The deposit was $85, I thought that was a little steep for a skinned and gutted hog that weighed 40 pounds but I left it anyway thinking that I would get some of it back when it was done. When I picked up the meat it was only 22 pounds and I didn't get any of the deposit back because they said it was a flat rate for all hogs under 100 pounds. Which is a shit deal if you kill hogs that are a good eating size. When I cooked the meat there was no fat content at all and extremely watered down. Any good wild game processing plant adds a decent amount of domestic hog fat to make sausage. But not this place. Needless to say I will never go back to this place because of the ridiculous prices and the terrible quality of meat. It would of been more cost effective to buy breakfast sausage in the store than to go here. read more

I would always pass this place going to visit my Family. I decided to stop in one day and check them out. It was a nice break from the "glossy" meats of the local Superstore. Finally, I got to see RED meats that I remembered as a kid when my grandad would have our oun beef butchered. I bought alittle of everything, Beef, chicken, pork, sausage, bacon... I was pleasently surprised with all of it. Again taking me back to the freashness of yesteryear. My family usually likes to put seasoning and onions in their hamburgers, I did not put a thing in the ground beef from Old Plantation. I grilled them and everyone commented on how flavorful the meat was. They asked what I put in it, my reply, not a thing. They could not believe it. The prices are very competative too. So now I always stop by, on my way to see the folks, and stock up. read more

A chunk of meat fat and a small puddle of blood was on a cutting board along with a used knife. There were 2 people ahead of me, and she chatted with each of them for several minutes. I read the review of how someone gave it great ratings gave them a tour of facility. Well that was not what I experanced I went told them I have never taken any animal to prossess . I took 2 pigs to prossess and was rushed trough the set up. they didnt ask me what I would like or anything they just seemed in a hurry. was told they would call with a hanging weight was never called. then was told it would be ready in 2 wks and it took 3 wks and want call till 10 minn befor they closed had to wait till 2 days later to go get it. and then it was all in half marked boxes didnt know what was what from which pig . was not happy at all with them and will not take another pig to them. read more
