I absolutely love Old Poway Park! It's located in a really nice, safe neighborhood and has such a calm, peaceful atmosphere. It's the perfect spot for family picnics, bike rides, or just spending a relaxing afternoon outside. There are also some great, yummy restaurants nearby, which makes it easy to turn your visit into a full day out. I do photography as a hobby, and this is one of my favorite locations to shoot--the scenery is beautiful, so much variety, and has so much character. Overall, it's a charming, relaxing place that I always enjoy coming back to. read more

This is a fantastic park. It is large, there is plenty of parking on the street or nearby lots as long as it is not a Saturday morning with the farmers market and softball tournaments at the other park across the street. The park has some fantastic old architecture and there are plaques telling you about some of it. There is a giant grass area, with nice large trees, some shade, some picnic areas, and a section that you can reserve for large parties. There is a hamburger joint on the premises as well. There is a giant gazebo where a young musician was singing her heart out. There is a working old train, you can pay to take a ride around the park. Came here on a Sunday morning leaving from Ramona. It was on our way home and wanted to take the kids out for an adventure. I google places to visit in Poway. What caught my attention was the vintage railroad ride. My son loves train rides and thought this would be perfect for him. Sadly it wasn't opened until 11am. We arrived about 10am. Had an hour to spare, but by the time it was going to open my kids decided to continue to our next adventure elsewhere. They got tired of waiting. There was also a museum of Old Poway Park and plenty of restaurants nearby to grab a bite to eat. The park is a hidden gem very cleaned, peaceful, and made me felt safe. Good spot to take family pictures especially on the railroad tracks during non-operating hours. Very charming park with historic buildings, a fountain, streams, and bridges. Would love to revisit next time and check out the train ride. read more

This place has two settings. (1) A quiet, calm place to collect your thoughts or enjoy a peaceful moment, or (2) the epicenter of activity. It's fun to visit on holidays events like Christmas or Halloween, but equally fun to stroll around when nothing's going on. The park rangers have always been friendly and knowledgeable, the park is clean and well maintained, and the history preserved. It kind of reminds me of that Twilight Zone episode "A Stop at Willoughby". This is basically Willoughby. I hope I live long enough to see retirement. I plan to spend most of it walking around here. read more

I like Old Poway Park. It's a wooded 2 or so acre oasis with open spaces, picnic tables, and a brook running through it. Several historic buildings have been relocated to this site, and there's a narrow gauge railroad that runs around the perimeter. Restrooms are centrally placed, and there are food outlets in the park and across the street. read more

Love this park so much. It's small, but probably the most famous park in Poway, with a lot of history. It's beautiful, has large, old trees, cool old buildings, an old train, The Hamburger Factory next door, and walkable distance to many other small businesses. It's a wonderful park. I am obsessed with this park! When I visit it's usually for the Farmer's Market on the weekends. I'll shop around then grab lunch from one of the food vendors before coming here for a picnic. There are lots of picnic tables, benches, and bbq pits. Sometimes there are people playing music with friends, there's almost always a birthday party, people just walking through, yoga, you name it. It's great for gathering or people watching. read more

Such a cute park that the kids loved because of all of the trains! We were able to take a ride around on one of the trains - I think they swap out trains every so often. But the other trains are visible as well, which was great. We parked in a lot across the street and walked over. There are tables and we had a nice lunch after riding the trains. There's also a creekbed that had water flowing through. Overall, a very peaceful place to visit! read more

We have came to this location twice for Christmas in the park event. They have a locomotive train that you can ride for $4 per person during this event.It is super cool to take you around twice in a loop and see all of the activities they have for Christmas in the park. Santa comes and lights the tree at 5:15. And then goes to a certain section in the park where you can take a free photo with santa. And prior years I recall there being a lot more free activities but it seemed like this year while reactivities was advertised we didn't find any other than the Making your own cookies. There is vendors who are selling items as well and we saw some wood carving as well as other trinkets. It is definitely something to experience and many photo opportunities. They do have a horse hayride that you are able to to do around the area but not through the park. read more

Lovely park, we went to the general store to pick up some waters and ended up getting some delicious fancy water! The choice was vast and it was fun looking at everything. We sat outside by a little shop, you can sit just about anywhere outside. It's relaxing and pretty here, we enjoy how clean and well kept the entire area is at Old Poway Park. We have been here on the weekends which is super fun and exciting with The Farmers Market, lots to see an experience. I enjoy going on the weekdays when I want to super chill out. read more

My wife and I love this little area in Poway. There's a few little mom and pop restaurants, a little winery, a small working railroad and an old school country vibe that is very Poway. It's old school and there's string lights around. Also there's a farmers market here on Saturdays and it's a good, dog friendly area to walk around at. read more

Old Poway Park is a staple of North County. It's been here forever, and I've played many band concerts in the gazebo as a child and as an adult. Farmers market, events, live music, choo choo train and picnic areas what more can you want?! There's always enough parking even when it's busy, and the farmers market is solid. They have a lot of gluten free vendors so my little celiac heart flutters at the option for baked goods and snacks. My son likes to run in the grass and the train is fun for the kids but operates on an erratic schedule at best. I believe it's volunteers or low paying gigs so I get it. I always enjoy visits and I'm sure I will for some years to come. read more

I love this park!! It is super cute and there is just so much to see. The old trains and trolleys are so cool. On The weekend they have the trains or trolleys running and it's pretty cheap. It goes 2x around the park. Kids under 2 are free. My son loves the trains so it's well worth it for us. There's lots of food options around too so it's super convenient. It's very picturesque and so you will often see people getting their holidays pictures taken or grad pictures taken there. Lots of dogs around too. This is a adorable park complete with a small railroad track that runs on specific times on the weekends. Perfect for a family photoshoot, taking a walk, walking the dogs, and of course for Pokemon players for the Pokemon Go app. Lots of parking on the side of Hamburger Factory, street parking between where the park separates and all around. Park is a decent size and there are occasional family friendly holiday events. On Saturdays morning to sometime in the afternoon, they also have a farmer's market filled with goodies. Overall, nice neighborhood park to take a walk, relax and just enjoy the green scenery and serenity (when there arent too many photographers). read more

Train ride is fun for the littles, although I'd suggest greasing the train wheels a bit. All you here on the two laps around are the loud squeaks. We waited about 10 minutes, so it was fairly quick. While you're waiting to board, an associate comes around and punches your tickets and tried to get you to buy the annual pass, which is $50. We paid $9 for our tickets (2adults and 2 kids). The only way I see the pass being worth it, is if you live near buy, go a few times a year or ride more than once while you're there. We also went on a Saturday, which was nice because they have their Farmers Market. Lots of goodies to taste. We had breakfast at the burger factory but it was nothing wow. Old Poway Park is a charming park in the old town area of Poway. The homes and businesses surrounding the park area have also picked up on the theme of the turn of the 20th century architecture. It appears that the city has saved several historic homes and buildings and moved them to a central location for all to enjoy. Then, they have added a museum, a railway complete with train station, and a cute restaurant for finishing touches. The grounds are colorful, immaculate and welcoming. There are rental gazebos and vast green lawns to play and enjoy a picnic. While not large, the park is visually appealing, neat as a pin, interesting to walk around, inviting for parties and celebrations and weddings. This is a fun little place to bring the whole family and stimulate a child's imagination. read more

Old Poway Park is a bit out of the way for me... but man, is it gorgeous! I came here yesterday to hear the Poway Community Band perform - their director was my high school band director. They had a great venue to perform in, as Old Poway Park is very picturesque. I spent some time after the concert to walk around and check out the buildings - the park has plenty of historical buildings and trains to peruse. Beautiful landscapes abound as well; one can easily take plenty of photos in the area. I want to come here again when the train is running and the exhibits are open - and I can't wait to show my girlfriend the area as well. read more

I wanted to explore Poway and coming to Old Poway Park was a good reason to experience this small part of the city. It's more than just a recreational park, its family fun and relaxation that can take up a good portion of your day. There's a mini museum in one of the buildings that displays artifacts and historic photos of the city of Poway. Also, there's a historical Nelson house free to tour inside and I happen to find myself relaxing and sitting on the front patio soaking up the breeze and beautiful view park. In for pictorials? This place has gazebos and throughout the peaceful grounds you can find nice photo spots and stroll along pathways and bridges that leads into the picnic areas. If you have kids who are into trains, there's toys inside the train depot/office where they can spend sometime to play. Toys and souvenirs are sold there as well. You'll find a train shed that houses a steam engine train. We were able to ride a San Francisco Cable Car that makes its rounds passing the picnic grass areas, the cost is $3 per person. The volunteers working throughout the place were friendly and informative. The Nelson House, the train rides and the museum are open on weekends only (excluding the second Sundays of each month). We used to bring our kids here when they were little but, at that time, the train only ran very intermittently because it was always broken down. Since that time, the city of Poway took over management of the park and, I have to say, they've done a great job revitalizing this area into a mini western town. I am truly impressed with how nice everything at the park is. From a sweet little house that has been brought onto the premises, to the depot, to the box cars, there's a lot for kids and families to explore. The Hamburger Factory is right on the premises, as well as lots of picnicking spots in the park area. I came on a very very hot day and wondered why everyone in the county wasn't enjoying the way cooler temperatures under the big shade trees of the park. Since I was there on a weekday, I didn't get to see the train run but I did ride it last summer. If you have kids this is a perfect activity to enjoy. For those of us in the North County, it's nice to get the little train excursion experience without having to go all the way down to Balboa Park for that little train. I really have to commend the city for what a great job they've done revitalizing this area and making this park a fun family destination. read more

A couple weeks I was driving by on a Sunday and saw quite a few people out and about and decided to get out just to stretch my legs. I ended up walking around for probably 45 minutes, kind of mesmerized by the small town feel. I'd been to the Hamburger Factory but never walked around here. What a wonderful park! I was surprised there were soooo many people there for photoshoots ... families, babies, wedding/engagement ... after walking around I could see why. I don't have a lot to add that others haven't said, but had to get in my 5 stars! This ended up being the perfect place to get out and walk on a relatively chilly day - maybe 50 degrees. The openness of the park allowed the sun to shine everywhere and warm up the area. Definitely worth repeat visits... read more

This is not your typical park, as there's no swing set, tot lot, etc. However, there's a grassy area and some picnic tables. They have a farmer's market on Saturdays. There's a legit train ride running most weekends. There are a couple of restaurants adjacent. There's a parking lot across the street. Well First This is a Great Park for Taking Pictures and It is located in old Poway . There is some parking along the side of the park. Also it is good for Families or Friends or even a nice walk . The view here at Old Poway Park is pretty cool also !! Lots of people like to take photos near the Train and this location is also close to the spaghetti factory also . But if you want a ride on the train then it only runs during the weekend. But even on the weekdays this park is not so crowded and you can enjoy a nice walk and there are areas in the park where you can sit down also . This is such a nice park! The trains are the main attraction here it seems. The railroad goes through a beautiful garden so it's a scenic ride not just for kids to enjoy :) I'm so glad I discovered this park and I will definitely make this a regular place to visit! Lovely park in Poway, CA. There seemed to be a wedding and a handful of photo shoots going on Saturday afternoon. Everything was neat, clean and looked very nice. Would have loved to walk around more. Not sure how much space reservations cost or if you NEED a reservation for just a picnic but it did look quite nice.
