Another good farmers market in the area! My comments apply to the indoor winter market; I haven't…read moreyet made it to the outdoor market. It's a small but good market. Like other winter markets the focus is more on meats and the produce is limited to root vegetables, garlic, onions, and a few apples. There are also vendors selling soaps and wool products. Meats available include poultry, beef, pork, and lamb. The vast majority-possibly all- appear to be pasture-raised or grass-fed. Also available are line-caught Alaskan salmon and locally-raised fresh trout. All of the vendors are quite friendly and more than willing to describe their products and offer cooking tips. This is why I love farmers markets. I had a bit of a hard time finding it at first- it's not in the Gregg School anymore. It's in a former storefront along Millheim's Main Street. It's just past the light, and it'll be on the right if you're going east on 45. It's nearly directly across from the meat store and wine shop- which are also worth a visit if you are so inclined.

This little town is a little beat down but it just oozes charm! At around 10 o'clock Victorian House Antiques seemed to be the only shop open (correction: they technically open at 11 but the shop owner was in and kindly allowed us in early to look around. Extra star for him!). I love all things funky and old and this store had a pretty solid stock of every random piece of antique furniture or doo-dad you could think of. Although the shop is a tad small the entire store was expertly organized and tidy. I've been to some shops that are so crammed full of junk you're literally required to twist and bend just to get around. This was not the case here. Another pretty awesome feature is the price comparison done with some of the larger pieces. The shop will list their price along with a description of the piece and then they'll post a print-out from ebay with the pricing info and stats on a similar piece. You're essentially comparison shopping without any leg work! Although I didn't make any purchases this is definitely a store I will be making a trip back to when I'm in the market for some accent pieces. Nearly everything I saw (shelves, little cart bars, end tables, etc., etc) was in crazy good condition and very reasonably priced. Well done Victorian House Antiques!

As a resident of NJ who was visiting Williamsport for the first time, I found this open air market…read moreto be a refreshing introduction to the area merchant scene. The first person I met during my stay at Genetti Hotel mentioned that this market existed and convinced me to take a stroll over to visit, just a block away. I love supporting local farmers and small businesses , so I was glad to do so. The market offers a broad array of local merchants and artisans of all varieties, such as farm fresh producers of veggies, fruits and meats, soap makers, jewelry makers, horticultural creators, seafood vendors, wood workers, hot food chefs who cook on demand, bakers... you name it! The best part was getting to talk to a couple of the merchants. I met one soap maker who explained her entire process for making bars of soap from start to finish. She was very transparent with me about which products were all natural as I am cautious about using products that might irritate my sensitive skin. That interaction made me feel more inclined to support her business and help me appreciate the product that much more. My husband walked away from the meat tent with a big, farm fresh, vacuum sealed and frozen brisket that cost only $7 per pound. (!!) Cash is preferred but credit & debit cards are accepted throughout the market place. Everyone offered service with a smile and a kind word. I walked away one happy shopper.

The town of Bellfonte is teeny and charming and not at all the type of place I thought I'd find a…read morelegit thrift store. But lo and behold, smack in the middle of High Street you'll find an expansive, thoroughly stocked 2nd hand store. My visit coincided with the beginning of the holiday season so they had an entire section devoted to all sorts of decorative Christmassy things. The variety this place has to offer is what really blew me away. Clothes are a given but it was the VHS supply, home-goods, purses, kitchen-wares and other odds and ends that really surprised me. This isn't a trendy, ironic thrift store that discriminates over what they'll accept. Faithcenter thrift store will pretty much take whatever they can get. That being said you'll have to dig through loads of the-not-that-fantastic to find something worth buying, but that's half the fun anyway!
