Wanda and Sandy were wonderful and the breakfasts she cooked were huge and delicious...from fresh fruit to farm fresh eggs, a pile of bacon, cinnamon rolls, muffins, toast...it was incredible. Highly recommend this B&B if you're ever in the St James area. And to top it off, my wife got to see her very first cardinal. We were sitting outside on their sun porch the first morning when Sandy's sister made us a wonder breakfast and my wife got to see about 5 cardinals coming to their bird feeder...It was just an all around pleasant stay.

Home was built in 1899 but somehow doesn't really feel that old and is very quiet and comfortable. We picked the ground floor room because we were traveling with our dog. It was perfect....nice size and its own private bathroom. Nanette is very welcoming and available to answer questions or address any needs you might have. She is also the most delicious cook and I don't say that lightly. We enjoyed two of her breakfasts and both were absolutely delicious! She is certified as a holistic chef so you can feel good that what you are eating is healthy and nutritious. Inn is conveniently located (within walking distance) to the Winston Churchill museum and the brickyard district (downtown area.) The breakfast in the morning, delivered to my door was what I would describe as gourmet. The best scrambled eggs I have ever had. I must give an acknowledgement to Brandt, the Innkeeper, who keeps the property running smoothly. He knows a lot about the local history and gave us a map of the town when we first arrived and informed us on some good places to go. Lovely town and Captain Wohlt Inn was charming.

The room was super clean and nice. There was a beautiful landscaped area with seating, and at night, that was a place to be, so many guests were there, with s'mores you could make at the firepit. There was quiet background music that was great for still being able to have conversations, and the owners dog came out for a bit and visited. I would definitely come back, close to the downtown areas, clean, and beautiful.

This is still a great hotel but, based on this stay, I'm lowering my rating to a 3-star. The two guys at the front desk when we checked in and they lady working the desk when we checked out we're all great. Professional, personable and efficient. The room was clean and quiet. BUT, and this is becoming more and more of a problem with hotel rooms, it was impossible to get the room dark. There were special blackout shades to keep outside light from interfering but there was a giant (actually it wasn't that big) bright green LED on the thermostat that gave the room a green glow all night. The lady at the front desk at check out said we weren't the first to complain about the green LED. She said that next time we should check with the desk and they'd give us tape to cover it. Misc LED's on the TV, microwave, smoke detectors, etc are making it hard to get a room really dark. Then at breakfast (yeah, I know it's free), they were out of bacon AND their signature cinnamon rolls. I overheard the breakfast hostess telling one guest that "THEY" never gave her enough bacon. Then I overheard her telling another guest that there were no cinnamon rolls because "the truck didn't come yet". This is still a nice hotel and we'll continue to stay here on our way west. It just needs to pay better attention to details, and the breakfast staff needs to be more hospitable and stop blaming "them" and "the truck ".

Then I noticed no light or electrical outlets on my side of the bed. The refrigerator was noisy. The internet connection was weak and intermittent. No daily maid service. If you want clean towels, you have to bring your used ones to the front desk and get the towels yourself. The "breakfast" was meager at best. Best thing about it was that it is in Linn.

There is so much to do there, between swimming, hiking, golfing, and fishing -- or even just relaxing by the pool with a great book. The rooms are immaculately clean and so comfortable; the beds are like actually sleeping on a cloud. Make sure you get a golf cart. It's the perfect addition to exploring the grounds and making you feel fancy dancy along the way. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and perfect to enjoy on the massive sundeck at Town Hall. We were so sad to leave, and I am already planning my next trip back.
