I was a little bit nervous about signing up to do a 3k event in November, however, the opportunity…read morepresented itself and I knew I'd be able to visit a park I'd never been to before. Flat Fork Creek Park is part of Fishers Parks. Located at 101st and Cyntheanne Road, Flat Fork Creek Park offers just over 60 acres of relaxing fun for just about everyone in the family including a good amount of ADA accessibility. First off, you'll get a 60-foot sledding hill here. That's good to know as we inch toward winter. It's the tallest point in Hamilton County. There's also a 1.25 mile progressive mountain bike course that offers features for both mountain biking newbies and those with more experience. There's a beautiful fishing pond - state license required except for those 17 and under. Nearly 20 acres in the park are reforestation areas and there's a shelter with picnic tables that can be rented. Okay, that accessibility I mentioned? The 3k I did was a relatively small group, though it was centered around disability and had several disabled participants. The park includes an ADA accessible treehouse, a paved multi-use trail, and a boardwalk (I would note that while the boardwalk is, indeed, accessible, you do want to be a tad careful due to the side of the boardwalk that do offer a bit of a drop-off). You know what I think is really cool? They've created a ramp here so that even those with mobility issues can get to the top of the sledding hill - in most parks, that's an afterthought. As a side note, Fishers has won awards for their inclusion work and this park really shows it. This is really just a lovely park. You're not going to find a playground or other frequent park features, however, this beautiful park does a nice job of including everyone and weaving together nature with fun park adventures. This was my first time here. It won't be my last.

I love taking my dog here for a walk or going alone just to watch the sun set. The park is spacious and clean and overall a great experience. If it were closer to me I'd probably go daily.

Sometimes, the simplest things entertain kids the most, and my kids were entertained for quite a while with just four things to play on. The slide is one of those tall, super slippery jobs that launch you off of it and onto the ground straight on your butt. Then there's the geodesic dome with the chipped paint. And then there are two climbing things: one is kinda like monkey bars, and the other if shaped like some animal. The ground is wood chips, so it's softer than solid ground when falling off the slide (and you will fall off -- I'm telling you, it launches you off).

Whether you are little (there are three playgrounds), an older kid (lots of baseball fields, a skate park, basketball courts), or an adult who enjoys hiking, the park should provide the opportunity for enjoyment. Parking lots are distributed throughout the park which winds along Church St to a loop on the western end. So, no matter where you go, you can take advantage of the convenience. Restrooms, some with colorful murals on the buildings, are also available during the warmer months. Shelters are also available for gatherings, some with grills. The park could use a bit of attention, but hopefully, a spring cleaning can brighten the look of the place. Review #747

While I was over at Flat Fork Creek Park doing a 3k walk for charity, I looked up in Yelp to see if…read morethere was anything else worth visiting within a fairly short distance. I saw that Cyntheanne Park was a couple miles away and decided to stop in. Cyntheanne Park is part of the Fishers Parks system. Founded in 2010, Cyntheanne Park offers a landscape playground structure, five multi-purpose sports fields, a 1-mile paved multi-use trail, a natural grass trail, and it's also home to the Community Garden Program - this program allows residents to rent 10x10 foot plots of land to garden for the season. The Community Garden Program offers conventional and organic growing along with 4x9 foot raised bed plots. According to Fishers, this park is the only municipality in the country to have eight outdoor courts - including Cage Pickleball Challenge Courts. While Flat Fork Creek Park has a strong emphasis on nature, Cyntheanne has a strong sports focus with a football field, lacrosse fields, pickeball courts, rugby fields, trails, playgrounds, and picnic areas. The park also has restrooms and solid parking. This is a bit more of an isolated park compared to Flat Fork Creek. While I would consider this park a bit less accessible than Flat Fork Creek, Fishers as a rule does pretty well at accessibility and you can definitely see those efforts here. If you're active in any of the sports going on here, this might be considered a destination park. For most, however, this really isn't a destination park. It's simply a very good community park and a great place to gather for residents of all ages and abilities. I wouldn't go out of my way to return here, however, I would no doubt return here when in the area.

The Geist Reservoir runs through the park, and when we visited, we saw people kayaking along the river. We had fun just throwing rocks into the water. Be advised that there are signs all around the park near the river that say that you shouldn't swim in the water because there is a strong undercurrent. So no swimming! The playground has a really neat play structure with lots of ropes, ramps and things to climb. My kids had a lot of fun here -- it's set up almost like an obstacle course. There are also slides, swings (including a swing for really young children), riding toys and tunnels. The ground is covered with wood chips, so it's nice and soft in case your kiddo falls. There are also benches all around so you can sit and see your kid play from whatever angle you happen to be in. There are restrooms just off of the playground, and they were relatively clean when we were there. Parking is plentiful and right by the playground.

The jungle gym claims to be a smart structure featuring integration with a smart phone or tablet that brings fairy tales to life by scanning a QR code located on the structure. To be honest, I do not see that feature getting a lot of use, outside of the curious. The park has a bench that overlooks the play area and a picnic table that offers a scenic view of a man made pond and the main road. This park does not have a designated parking lot, but I do not think it was designed as a destination park anyway. You can park along the street in front of the park, across the street from the houses though, without any issues. The park is located off of the Cheeney Creek trail and has a small paved circular path around its perimeter that is intended for kids on the tricycles or big wheels, hence the nickname "Big Wheel Park". This park is geared towards people from the neighborhood visiting it. It does not have a lot to offer and my little guy wanted to leave after about 15 minutes, saying that he was bored and wanted to go home. I will give the park 3 stars for effort, but I would probably skip this park and find one with more to offer and do.

This tiny pocket of a park packs a punch, though, as it has a paved "road" for kids to ride bikes, trikes and big wheels on. It's awesome! It even has a "fueling station" where kids can get "gas." (OK, I'll stop with the quotation marks now; I'm sure you get it.) Part of the bicycle road is lumpy and bumpy, which looks like it would be really fun to ride on. The playground itself is really small and consists of one play structure with a climbing wall, slide and pole. There's space underneath for children to hide under and/or have secret club meetings. Then there are two rocking rides. A Little Free Library sits just off of the playground, and last time I checked it, it contained some of the best children's books I've ever seen in a Little Free Library! I mean, we're talking like Eric Carle and those touch-and-feel books. Whoever is donating here is very generous!
