This is usually a great park to go to, has path all the way around the park so you can ride bikes scooter, skate... in addition to basket ball courts, fitness station and play ground. Only has one shelter and a couple of small tables, quite a few benches. However, I went here, drove 30 minutes, because they have bathrooms only to find out the bathrooms are closed for the season!? The season just literally started! It's March 29th. I'm not amused at all. So I have to leave the whole park take everything just so I can use the bathroom?! This park deserves all the accolades it gets. It spans 16 and a half acres and is definitely a park worth driving to visit. It has everything that I normally look for in a park. There is a decent sized parking lot that is connected to the park by a bridge over Mud Creek. There is also some street parking available on the other side of the park. The park has a huge green space that can used for soccer, football, and a picnic. I saw some kids flying a kite on the space while I was there. They have a decent bathroom facility near the parking lot and a picnic shelter. You will find two horseshoe pits (The only park in Fishers with that amenity) near the shelter and a very nice basketball court in the center of the park. The playground is a mud free one that is constructed on a rubber surface. It does not have much as far as equipment goes, but it features two jungle gyms. One of them is huge and has lots of slides, ladders and walkways. The other is a bit smaller and has a few slides and is for the little kids. You will also find a tight rope in the area and climbing rocks, and two banks of swings with traditional, special needs, and toddler swings on them. The equipment is not the newest, but is well maintained and in good shape. There are benches and picnic tables in the playground area for parents to sit while their littles are playing. The picnic tables have a small shade awning over them. Just like most of the park's amenities, it is very nice. The park is very clean and well maintained. I like its quarter mile walking/storybook trail loop and Mud Creek overlook where you can sit and enjoy the creek. With it being a nice park, it can get busy during nice weather, especially during school breaks and weekends. My little really liked the park and it was really hard to get my little to leave. It is a nice park right outside of a Fisher's neighborhood. I am glad we had some good weather and that my little was able to make it out. read more

I'd heard of Brooks School Park, but only finally made it over here after casually checking for a park to enjoy dinner carryout breakfast with the family. What a gem!! Sinc we came early, on kind of an overcast morning, we had nearly the whole park to ourselves! We found plenty of parking, with a quick walk over the bridge to a couple big, beautiful playgrounds. We had our pick of picnic tables and benches so that we could position ourselves near where we wanted to play and keep our social distance from the one other family that was there and from the walking path traffic. There were convenient trash and recycling cans around, which was great. The kiddo loved the playground equipment. There were lots of fun slides and settings and obstacles to climb on, with various levels of difficulty, accessibility, and level of trill. Fun enough that we had to negotiate leaving with a promise to come back again. And we will! read more

Among the public parks in Fishers, Indiana, Brooks School Park is certainly one of the best options. If you're familiar with Fishers (and you should be), then you already know the city is likely near and dear to my heart because of its proactive devotion to accessibility to residents with disabilities. In fact, in just the last couple of years it received an award honoring its efforts. Brooks School Park, while not perfectly accessible, is one of the city's better options for those with disabilities and it's an overall fun and popular park. I had the chance to check it out during a recent visit to the nearby Ohana at 116th and Brooks School Road. This park is essentially about a block away. Situated on 16.5 acres, the park is deemed ADA accessible (I might argue this a little, but since it's one of the better public parks I'll go with it). It offers bicycle racks, basketball, greenways, a paved running/hiking trail, horseshoe pits, picnic shelters/tables (shelters can be rented), a playground, and an actual rather nice restroom. For those with mobility concerns, there's a nice paved path to the restroom to the left of the entry way. Don't ask me to tell you directions. I have no idea. It's there. You'll see it. On the day I visited, there was a food vendor (I think it was Kona, which offers some sort of flavored ice creation). I have no idea if they're there frequently, but it was a cool and obviously popular option. The park has 2-3 accessible parking spots - a great thing because the parking lot otherwise is fairly challenging for those with disabilities. The curb cut is near the accessible parking spots and close to the restrooms. The park is located just southeast of the Sandstone Subdivision. I'm not sure I'd call it a true "neighborhood" park and it seemed like most using it were actually driving there, but I suppose it's within walking distance of a residential area. There's also a really nice area that can be used for soccer/rugby. There's lots of green spaces overall. The trail is a multi-use trail and it runs a quarter mile. The inclines are gentle and even as a wheelchair user I had no difficulty. They also have a feature called the Born Learning Trail for young children - it's an initiative from the United Way focusing on early education that offers 10 interactive activities for preschool kids. I'll confess that I tried it. There's a bridge and a dock overlooking Mud Creek. It's rather simple, but it adds to the park's atmosphere. In terms of ADA activities, there are 21 defined activities at the playground considered ADA compliant. They address disabilities ranging from mobility to cognitive and those with sensory issues are included. As someone who works in the field of intellectual disability, I actually was impressed. Overall, this was a great place to stop and enjoy my treat from Ohana while also having my spirits lifted by parents and children obviously engaged and having fun. This is one of the true gems of Fishers and I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area. read more

Another great park in Fishers! You know this is a good park when one of your kids -- who is seeing the park for the first time, and hasn't even stepped out of the car yet -- is already asking to come back to the park to play tomorrow. Brooks School Park makes a very good first impression because of its huge playground, which you can see from any direction on either 116th Street or Brooks School Road. And holy cow, that playground. There's fun for everyone here. There are slides (of the twisty and tube and double variety), rock walls, bridges, musical instruments to play (yes indeed!), swings (including chair swings), ladders to climb, poles to slide down, places to hide during hide-and-seek games, stairs, turrets ... basically, this park has a very fun playground that will keep children entertained for a long time. And it's set up so that parents and caretakers can have a seat and basically see their children wherever they are on the playground without having to get up. Hooray for not moving! Hooray for slothfulness. Beyond the playground is a little creek and bridge, with a bunch of rocks, big and small, to climb on and throw into the water. Do your kids like to throw rocks into water? Then they will love this park. We could have seriously just spent all of our time at the creek throwing rocks into the water -- eff the park, dude. On the other side of the bridge is a bathroom; cross the bridge and you're at the playground. Bathroom, bridge, playground. Playground, bridge, bathroom. That's how it goes here. It kind of sucks that the bathroom is a bridge-crossing away from the playground, but what are you going to do. There's a walking path that encircles the park, with a large grassy, open field in the middle. Along the walking path is the occasional hopscotch game on the asphalt. Just off the playground is a bank of basketball courts. There is also a Little Free Library here! We didn't see any books that were worth taking, but I love Little Free Libraries, so I like that there is one here. read more

This well maintained park is very inviting. There is a single entrance to the parking lot on Brooks School Road and because the space is limited on the east side of Mud Creek, they've put a large parking lot and a permanent restroom facility that sits on a little hill. Note that there are stairs in front of the facility, but they also have a low grade ramp that swings in from the side for those who are challenged by steps. Mud Creek can flow quite rapidly through this area, so the banks have been built up and a sturdy bridge is used to span the creek right at the parking lot. Just across the other side is shelter, with basketball courts to the south, and a large playground to the north. There are a number of tables located in the playground area for parents who want to be able to watch both sections while not having to stand the entire time. There is a hiking trail that is frequented by dog walkers who find the loop helpful. On the north end, there has been some landscaping to improve the "Floodplain and Stormwater Outfall" An information stand explains the improvements as well as points out some plants that have been introduced. There is also a wooden overhang for those who want to be closer to the creek without risking getting wet. The park had lots of visitors even though it was a cold day. This place is close to my house and just a 5 minutes bike ride. It's got lots of walking areas and places to sit and talk or just hang out. It's also great just to have some alone time or get energy out. you can take your kids to the giant playground and watch from the multiple benches they have all around the area. There's also a tinier playground area for younger kids if they aren't ready for the high towers or steep slides. I usually go here with my friends ever since the tree swing in the wooded area in our neighborhood broke and its been a really great place to just hang out and talk. You can sit, walk, climb the park areas, walk through the woods, or wade in the water. Wonderful area for any activity. Also a wide open space for sports. There's woods with a path and the lake is shallow enough to wade in the water. There's a few crayfish which is cool to watch them dart around backwards and lots of minnows. There's also a Kona Ice truck permanently parked if you want a small treat or a reward for your kids. It's a great family hang out or a place to be alone or with your friends. Great park. Clean, great equipment, in a nice area. It can be a daunting playground for kids younger than maybe 4yrs due to how busy it can get at times and also the height and nature of the large playground equipment. We love it though. read more
