5 stars +++. They had me as soon as I saw "Bright Leaf " hot dogs on the menu. I know hot dogs and I know Bright leaf. And I know a good dog. I've had some really good hot dogs all over the state (i call them Carolina Dogs- chili, slaw, onions and mustard). Some are so good that I would never dare say that one is better than another. I've got about a half dozen top favorites that are consistently excellent. I'd have to put the Old Store's right in the top group. Great dog, great buttered toasted bun, great chili sauce, great slaw. Just the right amount of onions and mustard. Next: my wife is weird and doesn't eat meat. Her go-to is a grilled cheese. This was a good one. The waitress (real nice!) gave us each a piece of chocolate cake with butter cream(?) icing. The cake was so light it disappeared in our mouths. I promise I've never had a better lighter cake. This will be our stop from now on whenever we're headed to and from the coast. I'll add that's easy to find and easy off and on the highway. My husband and I love finding small town local diners and trying them out while we are out and about on one of our adventures . Today Old Stone Cafe did not disappoint. It has that hometown feel filled with locals who you know are regulars. I ordered the cheese burger with lettuce, tomato and onion with a side of onion rings. This burger was done perfectly so juicy and the seasoning was on point ! My husband had the double with fries. Exactly as well. We were given a complimentary piece of cornbread cake. My first time trying it and we'll there is not a picture because I inhaled it lol . Great staff, farm style vibe just an all around great place ! read more

Yep. This is your mom and pop, 1 page menu small country diner. It hurt my health conscious side watching her pour the vegetable oil on the grill, but the home fries were amazing and make in my mouth ...I couldn't hold back. Worth every calorie. The egg sandwich was... Could've been better. Just the standard fried egg between two slices of white bread. The coffee was ok. A little watered down for me. But my friend's breakfast looked amazing (see picture). I don't eat bacon but man it looked and smelled good. Come here for a legit country breakfast. The end. read more

We stopped for breakfast. Your grandmother probably made you breakfast like this (if you're from the country or from the south). More food than two of us could eat for less than $12. Lots of good specials options. They are definitely providing an important service for their community, there; but the proprietors and server were incredibly kind to us even though we're just passing through. Stopped here for breakfast one morning while passing through. It doesn't look like much, but it's a tasty, mom-n-pop, greasy spoon--worth your time, and the mile past the McD's. It's a converted old country store (ahem--see name). A real one, not like the fake one's we call Cracker Barrels. The breakfast menu was pretty basic with standard griddle and grill items. It was tasty and the staff was friendly. Very reasonable prices--CASH ONLY!! The atmosphere was awesome. Farmers talking about crops and small town gossip. Old couples sipping coffee and the owner's family running between the house and the cafe. A grill cloud hanging in the air. Great old family photos and artifacts on the walls. Mismatched chairs and table cloths. If you like the big CB chain, why not go for the real deal and give this place a try? The food is better, the atmosphere is authentic, prices are cheaper--and you are supporting a real, local family. They do lunch too. I was told they have a standard menu plus specials. I heard a rumor when there is BBQ chicken on the menu, it's the best you can get in ENC. I may have to swing by one day and give it try, because after visiting, I tend to believe it. read more

Absolutely awesome mom/pop joint that takes you back to the simple pleasures in life. Stopped for breakfast on the way to Kure beach from Holly Springs and loved the old building, friendly staff and warm welcome. Food was simple, but delicious. They make their own sausage and you don't want to miss them! Coffee was always flowing and good...just what we needed! It had clean bathrooms which is always hit or miss at small local finds! Good country food. Cheap and tasty. My favorite time to stop in is breakfast, good old eggs, bacon, grits, and toast. If you want fake fancy county food go someplace else, real good country cooking for good country folks. You must try this place. read more
