Wow this was so disappointing, The Hall itself was fine, but received complaints that the bar staff were drinking shots when they thought no one was watching, I guess when someone else is paying. Staff in the bar horrible! read more

This was my first time at the Old Timers Cabin. It is such an unique, country look and cozy place with tons of character. Wood panels and staircases just gives it that je ne sais quoi feel that you want to stay there forever. Well now quite that long..lol I was there for a wedding and the staff were very friendly, helpful and professional. The food was amazing. The cabin had Christmas decorations as my friend loves the holidays so wanted to have a red, blue, white celebration. I would recommend this place for weddings, banquets, meetings, anniversaries. read more

Over the past 10 years, I've been to at least 5 or 6 large gatherings or celebrations at the Old Timers Cabin. As mentioned by fellow Yelper, Paul S., it realy is one of the most unique if not the most unique places to hold an event in Edmonton. Nestled just off the gorgeous Edmonton River Valley and boasting beautiful views, it's the best of Country in the City! It's really cool to walk around the site, read the various plaques, and learn about the heritage of the Northern Alberta Pioneers and Descendents. Another bonus of utilizing this venue for large gatherings is there is plenty of parking. The back deck is gigantic and big enough to hold any size party for a group photo (especially awesome if there is lots of snow and say a wedding party would like an outdoor photo but doesn't want to get wet/muddy!). You can really have anything here from a wedding to a retirement party to a family reunion! And let's just say that one time I went to an EPS function here that involved a hypnotist and someone who shall remain nameless was hypnotized into thinking she was Oprah ;-) Anytime I receive an invitation to attend a party here, I know it will be a good time! Old Timers Cabin is that log cabin looking building that you pass by on Scona road going to/from downtown. You know the one (or maybe you don't because you're going to fast). Anyway I'd been here once before, years ago in High School when my choir sang here for an event, but I didn't really remember the facilities that well. Couple weeks back when we did the Yelp Elite event here (Lumberjack Commotion so much fun) I got to go back to the facility. It's really nice. Has a homey and log cabiny vibe to it (obviously). There's free parking and quite a bit of it. You might not be able to tell from the front of the building, but there's a sweet back porch was some cool views of the Edmonton downtown skyline. It was January and -30 or whatnot for our event so no one really went outside, but I took a quick look through the door and thought "yeah that's a pretty nice view." The Old Timers Cabin might say old timers, but I think it would cool for a number of different events for people of all ages. There's a basement (we didn't go there because there was some kind of knitting group using that space) and I think the facility holds about 250 people. I don't know when I'll be back here next, but I hope I get to go to another event at this place. It's very nice. read more

What a lovely venue to host an event. The enormous Buffalo head over the interior wall greets you as you arrive, to photos of early settled Edmonton in a log cabin that you won't soon forget. We attended the NAPDA (Northern Alberta Pioneer and Descendants Association) Harvest Round Up 2015, and we were well fed, entertained, and even had a quick visit with the Premier. Catering for the event was excellent, if you were to hire this caterer, you would not be disappointed. Being celiac, I usually expect buffets to be filled with food I cannot eat, and the gal I stopped to ask what was safe knew exactly what I could eat, and it was pretty obvious to me that the food served was really made by hand, by people, and with care. (FYI - their mashed potatoes and roast beast were divine...) There's a sound system, and I think that pretty much every event you could hold here would be a success! Handicapped access, and an elevator if you need it. I didn't get a chance to check out the washrooms - my bad, but I suspect they would also be functional for able and wheelchair patrons. The grounds are lovely, and the view... our River Valley showcased in every season! The website is a work in progress - don't judge the venue by that! A gorgeous venue, this place has some most wonderful views. The lilacs smell great at this time of year, and the architecture of this building is unlike most other city buildings. It really recalls a cabin in the woods rather than a city building but is well constructed and hosts many events. I had walked by here many times but have only visited the interior once. It is easily accessible via multi-use trails and has ample parking. The central location means that one can get here from all areas of town. I look forward to attending future events in this venue. read more

I work for the City of Edmonton and I have attended a few events here over the last 4-5 years. It is probably one of the more unique places to hold an event in Edmonton. A log cabin located in the river valley of Edmonton! The Old Timers Cabin is run and operated by the Northern Alberta Pioneers and Descendants Association, a charitable group that is dedicated to preserving the history of the northern Alberta pioneers and descendants that helped to establish our province and city. As part of my job with the City I get to work with this group and know how dedicated they are to maintaining and running the cabin which they are so proud of. The cabin itself is beautiful and well taken care of. Upstairs is where most events are held as it is the most picturesque and biggest space including a stage and huge fireplace. There is a bar area for you to use as well if you need that for your event. There is also room downstairs as well, but I haven't really seen much of it in use except for meetings. From what I understand if you want to book out this facility you need to book at least a year in advance, especially for the prime weekend dates. Many many weddings are held here. I'm sure if you pass by on any weekend someone is getting married. This past fall they held a big garage sale in their parking lot which I was looking forward to but I didn't make it as I was out of town that weekend. I hope they have it again next year as I bet there should be some cool antique and retro items! I think they also had an antique car show one weekend as well. The events I have attended here have been staff BBQ's and I am sure we probably had at least 100-150 people and there. There has always been ample room for all of us. Hanging out on the back deck is always great too as it has a great view of downtown and the river valley. There is also a huge parking lot so if you are holding a big event you won't have your guests parking hallway down the block and hoofing it to get to your venue, or paying for a parkade. The Old Timers Cabin! You've probably driven past it 100 times, but have you ever been inside? I had the chance to check out this venue while there for a meeting and I was impressed - it was exactly how I pictured it to be inside. Upstairs there is beautiful dark wood everywhere on the walls and ceiling, creating the cabin feel. Old fashioned looking lights give the space an authentic feel. And it's a big space, with a stage on the south side that also houses a piano on it. Downstairs is another big open space, along with a kitchen and large washroom space as well. I noticed an elevator so the space is handicap accessible. There's a large parking lot on site, which is awesome. And I can only imagine how pretty the view of the river valley would be! I've heard there's a beautiful garden area around in the summer as well. read more

I really do love this venue for hosting business meetings. I will start by saying there used to be a really bad "old" smell that they've seem to have under control now. Onto the good stuff... it's a log cabin in the heart of Edmonton, overlooking the river valley. Is that not enough?? Well, it's huge facility, and can easily fit 200 people... likely more .The parking is ample, and it's central, very easy to get to from anywhere in the city. The price is a bit more pricy than other venues I've used, however this is such a unique space, and has a great history... why not support them! read more

This space is GORGEOUS! Definitely one of the more unique meeting/event spaces in the city. You've probably driven by it many times... it's one of those places. I have been to this event space a few times over the last few years, both as an organizer and an attendee. The natural decor is so rustic and beautiful that very little needs to be done when holding an event here. Although, adding some greenery and twinkle lights looks amazing. The staff are pleasant to deal with. They've been doing this for a long time, so there's no surprises. There is an elevator if you need to move items between the top and bottom floor, although I usually find it easier to just hoof it up and down. The stairs are wide and not steep at all, so you get a workout without feeling too much of a burn. The views off the patio of this location are absolutely breathtaking. Gorgeous in the summer during wedding season, but it blows you away in the winter when the surrounding trees are all frosted. Parking is free and ample, although in the winter when the lines can't be seen, it's easy for the angle parking in the center to get a little staggered and can get a little cramped. One thing that leaves a slightly sour taste in my mouth is the washrooms. The only washrooms are downstairs. So if you're attending an event upstairs, there's a chance that you'll be walking through someone else's meeting or event downstairs to get to the potty. I've only come across that once, so it's probably not a regular occurence. I would be highly likely to consider this location for my own wedding, if that time ever comes. read more

Was here for a wedding and it blew me away! It has that old timers cabin feel, you know? Rustic, yet elegant. It's located in the heart of the River Valley with a stunning view. It's set up with a bar and kitchen and decently big bathrooms as well. Keep in mind the bathrooms are located downstairs. There is also another event room downstairs although I am not sure if the rooms get booked for separate events at the same time. Both event spaces downstairs and upstairs have room for a band/dj a dance floor and a dozen+ tables. The service staff is great and very professional. Can't go wrong with this space! read more

You just got that feeling that made you smile even at the saddest of times. It was perfect and had everything we needed. This a top notch Classic in Edmonton. I've heard about it time and time again but never had a chance to attend an event here. I heard of everything from weddings to retirement parties to work Christmas parties being hosted here. It has a very rustic feel to it with room for 2 parties, one upstairs and one downstairs. Although, if both are happening I would prefer to be upstairs as the sounds does travel and and the washrooms are only downstairs. It's kind of awkward having random people walk through your party to use the bathroom. The upstairs has a wicked view of of the Edmonton skyline and it's really nice to enjoy it when it's not minus 30. There are 2 kitchen areas for food prep for guests of any kind of event. It is a very wide open space so there is plenty of room for a dance floor and a dj or different vendors for a trade show or marketing event. You can't go wrong with this place! read more

The Old Timer's Cabin was the perfect place for our wedding. We knew that as soon as we visited the place for the first time. We held both the ceremony and the reception in the large hall on the upper floor with cocktails taking place just outside on the balcony and seated areas. There's also a great photography location just a little down the lane on the cliff and bicycle paths of the river valley. The coordinator of the facilities is a good person to work with, and the caretaker of the property is a joy! The only reason this is not a five star review is because, at times over the last year, management have been somewhat slow to respond to emails and sometimes we felt a little mismanaged when management would forget something we had previously emailed about. This rustic cabin has such an albertan charm to it! Great snacks and good tunes made for an excellent mood in a well appointed venue. Sooo very disappointed!!! We were looking to book this venue for our wedding. A couple of months ago we set an appointment up to go and see the inside and see what the cabin and management had to offer. We had to go in the evening as we worked during the day, so the manager wasn't there and we were shown around my the woman who works on keeping the place clean and organized! She was so kind and helped with most questions that we had! She gave us a paper with some basic rules the cabin has in place ( if we chose to rent it) as well as the managers email. At that point I asked about the manager because I had read reviews online saying that another couples' date at a that venue had been double booked- To this she responded they had a new manager. So later in the evening we emailed the address we were given and to this day we have never heard back! So we thought maybe that was the old managers email address and decided to call the old timers cabin again and request some pricing info and discuss dates. I spoke with a woman named Dorinda who identified herself as the manager and she said she works Monday to Friday from 10 am - 2 pm at the cabin. She said she could email me the info we were asking about so I gave her my email (even spelling it out) and she said she would send the info right away.... It's now been a week and I haven't gotten any email from her. This is obviously a HUGE red flag and we will definitely not be booking this venue for our wedding! She threw away great potential business! Considering its $2500 a day to rent this venue... So disappointing because this venue is beautiful!! read more

beautiful venue in and location but so not worth the hassle. the communication with the ladies is horrible, I've had to send and resend e-mails trying to get them to answer questions, follow up with me, help me out with what needed to be done on my wedding day. they are so not thorough about anything and it stressed me out so much. I went there a couple weeks before my wedding to talk about how i want it to look and the lead lady hardly said anything then left saying she had other things to do- thankfully the cleaning lady took the lead and helped answer any questions we had. i also paid for linens and nothing was left out the day of the wedding, so we had to go looking around for linens. also, it's $2500 just to rent for the day! you don't even get it the night before to set up! i thought this was a little pricey. like i said, beautiful venue but not worth the stress.
