Old Town Square - Parks Near Me - Fort Collins, Colorado

Old Town Square is an absolute dream! It feels like I'm living in a Hallmark movie, especially at Christmas! I stumbled upon it a few months back while looking for a place to have breakfast with my daughter (ended up at Silver Grill Cafe). After breakfast, we decided to wander around a bit and check out the area. The square is beautiful! In the middle, you'll find a stage that is home to a lot of live music in the evenings, and a fountain/splash pad for the kids (or adults and some dogs I've seen), to run and splash around. They have a piano for the public to play, a fountain to make wishes in, and some interesting local art. There is plenty of seating to sit and watch the kid's play or have a small bite to eat. The fountain/stage are surrounded by a large number of local boutique shops and delicious restaurants. A bonus, a Ben & Jerry's ice cream shop! It is a great area to spend a warm day. At Christmas, all of downtown and old town are lit up with thousands of lights in the trees, on the buildings, etc. It is absolutely stunning! Back to my earlier comment that it truly feels like a Hallmark Christmas movie. They set up Santa's workshop in the middle of the square for kiddo's to meet him, sit on his lap, and take photos. He was such a kind man and was wonderful with the kids. Right next to this, is a skating rink. This unfortunately was disappointing. It's not ice, it's some plastic stuff that is physically impossible to actually skate on. Honestly it felt like a lawsuit waiting to happen with how easy it was to fall. It was uncomfortable and not very fun, we only went two laps and gave up. It was free, so at least we didn't waste any money. It's great for "looks," but don't recommend it. Overall, this is truly one of my favorite places in Fort Collins and I love spending my days here with my daughter. read more

FoCo's Old Town Square is quaint, picturesque and just plain awesome. (I think all of downtown FoCo is!). Want to relax and people watch with an ice cream after having savored a tasty lunch at any of the nearby delicious dining options & browsed in some original shops, perhaps listening to local music with the laughter of children splashing in a water feature drifting over? Check, check, check, check, and check. Those of us lucky to live here know what a gem we have in our backyard. As another reviewer mentioned - and it's true - downtown FoCo provided inspiration for downtown Disney. The set designer of Main Street, Harper Goff, showed pics of FoCo's downtown to Walt Disney and elements of its design were incorporated into the theme park's version of Main Street. Fort Collins is such a walk-able town, and Old Town is part of the ease. Old Town Square has had the same charm to it since the first day I visited Fort Collins when I was a child. It's in the heart of the town, and holds so much character. I have seen stores come and go throughout the years, but there is always something fun to look and browse through. There are art pieces throughout the square, with events and live music in the summer. There are tasty restaurants surrounding the area, as well as Cooper Smith Brewery, and some bars. Which ever direction you go from the square, you are in another awesome area of Old Town, with a ton of eclectic stores, tasty restaurants, and bars. It is so picturesque and a fun hang out area. Sometimes you can just feel the heartbeat of a place. Old Town Square is such a place. Between the Fountain pad, the flowers and the concerts this place is magical. Add some great restaurants and shops to the perimeter and it only gets better. Then add painted pianos inviting songs to be played and amazing sculptures and you have multi-dimensional magic. There are three large parking garages within a block or two and the Max is about two blocks away, so there is great access if you don't have a car. Pace bikes can be rented and walking is always a choice. If you have a furry travel buddy, you'll be happy to know this is a dog friendly place and many business establishments provide water bowls outside their doors. There is a lot of shade and many places to sit and people watch. read more

There are very few places in the world that are so idyllic, they almost don't seem real. This is one of those places. I feel as if I stumbled onto a movie set like the backlot of Universal or Disney Studios. In fact, I was told (no idea if this is fact or rumor) but told that that Downtown Fort Collins was one of the towns that Walt Disney used as a source of inspiration for Main Street USA. It sure seems like it could be. Everywhere you turn there's one adorable boutique shop after another and its all interspersed with coffee shops, restaurants and bars- most with al fresco dining options. There's public pianos all around just yearning for someone to tickle the ivories, lots of beautiful lush gardens and landscaping, park benches, patio tables and chairs, fountains spraying water from the ground and kids (and adults) jumping through the water sprays, there's even an outdoor stage for concerts and other outdoor performances. Its very easy to walk around the whole downtown area. It's very peaceful, serene and idyllic. I was there in the warmth of summer, but would love to pay a visit in winter and experience it in the snow. read more
