a display of different flavors of ice cream
    Jedediah T.

Heading south after coming through Glacier, my mother-in-law wanted some ice cream. We rolled across the open plains of north-central Montana, and then came to Choteau, where we were greeted by a giant ceratopsian dinosaur, a theropod of some sort, a hadrosaur, and ice cream! We went into the building where you are greeted first by the dining area, then go to the left where the Wilcoxson's ice cream is dished up with a smile. Sixteen flavors confronted us, but the worker was happy to explain what was in each one and offer samples as needed. The single scoops are quite generous, and we were able to get cones for eight people without breaking the bank. They also offer a banana split (sounded like too much to handle before hopping back in the car) and hot fudge sundaes. As pictured, they do not take credit/debit cards, so make sure you have some cash on hand to trade for some great ice cream.

Must stop if you are driving through town. Have some ice cream and walk around and visit all the museum items and old country town setup. Bear trap, dinosaurs, teepee, just lots to see.

This is a really sweet, family owned, community spot; I wish we had more time to stay and relax. There were inviting booths and long tables with padded seating and an area in the back with a fireplace. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. My husband was very excited that they had gluten free buns for his cheeseburger. I got the hamburger and sweet potato fries. The buns were toasted! The lettuce, onions, and tomato were all fresh; and the staff cleverly put them under the paper in the to go containers so the buns didn't get soggy. Ketchup, mustard, and ranch were offered on the side. The sweet potato fries were fresh and delicious. While we were waiting for the food, we stretched and checked out some of the photos on the walls. There were historic shots of Choteau, some beautiful artistic photos of the plains, and lots of local sports teams and children's drawings. I would recommend this as a great spot to get a solid burger and enjoy some of the local flavor.

By far the best steak around anywhere. The burgers are to die for!…read more I have no idea how they can provide such good food at these low prices! Wine is cheap too! Don't miss out on stopping here, you will not regret it ! Family owned and run. Everything is homemade. Yummmm
