On the drive from Bozeman to East Glacier, my husband and I stopped at John Henry's for some burgers to go. This is a really sweet, family owned, community spot; I wish we had more time to stay and relax. There were inviting booths and long tables with padded seating and an area in the back with a fireplace. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. My husband was very excited that they had gluten free buns for his cheeseburger. I got the hamburger and sweet potato fries. The buns were toasted! The lettuce, onions, and tomato were all fresh; and the staff cleverly put them under the paper in the to go containers so the buns didn't get soggy. Ketchup, mustard, and ranch were offered on the side. The sweet potato fries were fresh and delicious. While we were waiting for the food, we stretched and checked out some of the photos on the walls. There were historic shots of Choteau, some beautiful artistic photos of the plains, and lots of local sports teams and children's drawings. A solid 4-star local dive on Choteau's Main Street. Good coffee and killer burgers--the jalapeño cheeseburger brought the heat. Go for the hand-cut fries. Need to come for dinner in the future--bet it is satisfying with its open and casual dining room. but for a mid-day lunch John Henry's gave me exactly what I expect in a small town Big Sky eatery. Stopped by during a road trip for a quick meal. Pleasantly surprised by how great the food tasted. Got the John Henry's roast beef sandwich and it was amazing! Such friendly environment and loved the small town vibes. Will definitely go back again if we pass by. read more

This was the only restaurant open when we arrived in Choteau so didn't have much choice. However it's actually a great spot for a casual dinner anyway. Plus it's just a two block walk from the B&B where we were staying. The mid size dining room had a variety of seating options - small and large booths, high tables etc. Had burger and salad with salmon. Cute place. I visited twice. The first time for Salmon n fries...both were way over salted. The second time, pizza. Huge pizza, perfectly prepared...I would definitely go there again. I am a wounded military veteran that resides beside John Henry's. Yesterday I had a very unkind treatment in this restaurant. As I was about to eat my meal, this heavy set dark haired waitress came up to me and said I cannot have my SERVICE DOG inside. I was very much unpleasantly surprised! The owner of this place knows me as they are literally my neighbors and have had a few friendly conversations. This waitress is out of control and IGNORANT. I use that word ignorant because that's how the Sheriff's described such attitude. Despite the fact I showed them Hunter's ID as a service dog, she walked towards the owner of the restaurant and uttered "HE IS NOT A SERVICE DOG and I am calling the cops." The owner did not do anything, I asked him, are you really going to let your employee embarrass you? He said, "let her call the cops and they will straighten her out." When the Sheriffs came, they instantly recognized my dog Hunter. I showed them the proof of his identity and the a copy of ADA jurisprudence which would clearly shows that the way we have been treated is unprovoked, unfounded, indecent, discourteous and discriminatory. I did not hear an apology from them, however the Sheriffs that responded thanked me for my service and apologized for the embarrassment they caused. I paid the food I did not eat and will never even consider supporting this local restaurant. If only LOG CABIN is not closed on Mondays, I would have not made a mistake trying to eat in the restaurant. Hunter is well loved and honored by a lot of people especially the veterans where we both volunteered at. As shown above, he truly is a reliable and well mannered dog. Hunter is very loyal towards me, the service that he provides for me is out of his love and it is something no one can ever replaced or pay. read more

Busy little bar and restaurant!! They' suffered through the pandemic like everyone else and seem to have thrived! The food is always so good and the servers friendly. We've usually eaten lunch there, but had dinner the other night , ordered pizza, was delicious! The servers were running around like crazy it was so busy! Too bad they can't get more help, especially through tourist season. Needs a little updating with booth seating, but it lends charm. read more

Stopped at this place because it was recommended by friends. The first time it was closed but they said it was worth catching again. This place did not disappoint! The chicken strips were really good and so was the salad. What I really liked is that everything was $10 or under and the portions were much smaller than at usually restaurants. I didn't have to waste any food. I am a ranch snob and their ranch was home made. Their iced tea was brewed fresh and they had fresh lemons to compliment the tea. My daughter and I stopped here for breakfast on a recent motorcycle trip. We have a rule about not eating in chain restaurants and prefer to eat in small towns. Places like John Henry's are exactly why. Cozy, comfortable atmosphere. Our waitress was a long time local and was very willing to engage us in conversation and tell us about the local area. Seeing as how this seems to be the only restaurant in town, it better be good. My friends and I were traveling through rural Montana enroute from Glacier National Park to Yellowstone, and this was a gas stop for us. Now the group hadn't had breakfast, so we decided to have some local flavor. Not that we had much of a choice. It looked like it was John Henry's or donuts from the gas station. Well, I'm glad we went. Yea, the decor is a bunch of photos of (presumably) local cowboys, and there is a casino in back where a woman that looked old enough to be my grandmother's grandma was playing the slots, but it was a solid breakfast for cheap. Nothing fancy, but good solid food, perfect for a bunch of guys that just stumbled out of the woods. I had the breakfast burrito and was considering adding a side of biscuits and gravy (as my brother did), but the burrito was plenty, and my brother was left unable to finish his breakfast. I'm sure lunch/dinner/nightlife is more of why this place exists, but if you ever find yourself travelling through in the morning, the breakfast isn't bad either. read more

We had a hot and tiring day dinosaur fossil hunting over in Bynum and stopped by John Henry's at 6 o clock just as the evening rush started. The service was very friendly even though the 2 servers were dealing with a full house and a bunch of pick up orders. A totally relaxed and inviting atmosphere even though we are tourists. My 3 kids had a 14 inch pizza that more than satisfied them. My wife and I each had a steak which was done exactly as we ordered. Pints of beer for 3.50. We are out of towers who came to visit our friends. They were excited to take us out to dinner and show us their new town. They brought us here. We waited almost 2 hours for our 4 meals. We watched as other customers came in and received their items way before us. Although the waitress was very young and sweet she really should have said she'd go back and check on our meals. I ordered the steak salad which was advertised as mixed greens cucumbers tomatoes and onion topped with sliced steak. No cucumbers no tomatoes and it was topped with huge chunks (not slices) of steak that were literally refrigerator cold. This meat was very tough and I had an extremely hard time trying to cut it with the dinner knife that was supplied. I left almost my entire steak salad and he left most of his dinner uneaten. Our friend ordered a steak, baked potato and asparagus and texas toast. He received a nearly raw cold steak and a cold baked potato and unbuttered piece of dry toast. Out of the 4 meals only one was hot. I felt sorry for my friends because they were embarrassed as they wanted to take us to a nice dinner. I would not recommend this place at all. read more

I love this place. Every time I go home this is a must stop for me. I have probably eaten at this place over 25 times since I was a young boy. When I was a teenager this was the place to hang! The owners rock and the food is amazing!. The pizza is some of the best pizza I have ever had and the small town hospitality it hard to find. My husband and I ordered a cheeseburger the other day, OMG the burger was hard and BLACK, very tough. The first time we are there, it was like none wanted to wait on us, they left the room. We got no greeting at all. This older man came to wait on us, he was friendly. I had the special which wS the ham dinner with au gratin potatoes. The potatoes was so salty you could not eat them.
