How this place is even open is amazing. Everything i tried was crap. The hush puppy's were dripping oil. The fish was so old it was hard and dry. The manager acted like it was just fine to have hard cold fish on the line. Everything was way over salted. The cucumber, tomato and onion salad was slime. This has become one of my favorite restaurants in Paris. The salad bar is great and so many delicious options for a low price. Some of our favorites are: hamburger steak with onions and gravy, sirloin steak, grilled chicken, pork chops, and the country fried steak with white gravy. I have mixed reviews about this restaurant. The wait staff was short handed so considering they did pretty good. We did have to ask for the rolls and strawberry butter, which is one of the main reasons we went. Our food was brought out in a timely manner. I had the shrimp basket with onion rings. The onions rings were awesome! The shrimp left a lot to be desired. A lot of breading around tiny shrimp. It wasn't the worse I've had but definitely not the best. Seems to have mixed reviews. Not sure why. We (wife and friends) have been there several times and have always found the staff to be friendly and accommodating. Visiting Camden and was in Paris TN at a craft fair on a Saturday. except for a Chinese restaurant and a dive bar, couldn't really find any place to have a drink. Stumbled on this place. Were waiting for a person who was running late. The waitress was great, in letting us sit for about 1/2 hour and only ordered one beer. At 2:45, she told us that the buffet switched over to a $20 seafood buffet on Saturday at 3pm. It was early to eat but we went for it. If you like 'fried' food, this is the place for you! Stopped in here for lunch and even with a family member with food allergies this Steak house they were very accommodating for our order. The owner actually came to deliver the food to our table to make sure we knew the meal was 100% gluten free and no dairy products. The manager Sara was very kind and friendly and checked on us frequently to make sure ever was fine and that we didn't need anything. Traveling through town on a crisp Fall day with her rock star husband at her side, the lovely Ms. Jones and Mr. Rock Star happened upon this fine establishment of absolutely delicious home-style, southern cooking. And no, unlike the previous fussy reviewer wrote, we are NOT over the age of 65 and would like to remind those following these reviews that Mr. Rock Star learned his culinary skills at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France (no joke). One does not come to Paris, TN looking for a lettuce wrap and a rice cake--if you are traveling through this gem of a town, seek what is indigenous to this region. After all, one would not go to a fast food restaurant and expect to find Pheasant under glass, so why on earth would you expect to find "healthy options" at a Southern Diner? Oh, that's right--you wouldn't. Eat what the natives eat and you won't be disappointed. For $6.99 Ms. Jones and Mr. Rock Star had the most glorious buffet lunch that included creamy mashed potatoes, tasty greens, the best fried chicken you've ever put in your mouth (also no joke), hot yeast rolls...just dish after dish of Southern goodness. I feel after reading the other two reviews that I had finally found a good place in Paris to go. Paris doesn't have many family restaurants and I know this one had been saying coming soon for what seemed like forever. We aren't from Paris so don't come this way often but I really didn't feel like driving all the way back to Clarksville to go out to eat. Being from Dover you don't get many choices there either so we took our chances in Paris. Looked up this place on yelp (since I wasn't sure if it was even open yet) and sure enough it was. Plus the reviews stated they have a buffet (heck yeah). Pulled in wasn't to many cars but just enough to make you think this place might be good. Walked in to one of the 2 entrances they seem to have. Sign said wait to be seated so we did and it took several minutes before someone noticed we were standing there. Now the entrance is really nice and they did a wonderful job on the decor even if the name says "Old West" it wasn't really old west themed but you don't come there for the decor you come to eat. So after the host decided where we should sit (it wasn't like there wasn't any tables) she finally found us a boothe near the door. We were first greeted by one waitress which asked what we would like to drink which we stated sweet tea then she was off to go fix our drinks. A few minutes later another waitress brought us our tea's. As we were waiting we briefly glanced over the menu but kept having our eye turned to the buffet. I should go back and say that the host did explain the buffet to us as she seated us. It is on Friday, Saturday night, and Sunday and it is 12.99 (drink not included) you can also get steak, just walk up to the window and tell them what you want and they will cut it for you. So back to when the waitress brought us our tea she asked what we would be having tonight and we both agreed on the buffet. She asked if we would like rolls we of course said yes. We then needed to ask where the plates were (since it was our first time) she was very friendly and more than happy to answer our questions and tell us where everything was. We then proceeded to the buffet. It was very well stocked with items and someone was always out bringing more items out to it or cleaning up after a spill from a messing person. We first walked over to the window to get a "steak" we again stood for a few mins before a waitress asked had anyone helped us yet. We stated no and she soon found someone to assist us. The "steak" was in this water marinade liquid stuff I am guessing to keep it from drying out. The guy would pull out a piece of the meat and cut into it to see if it was the medium I was looking for. Now I keep saying "steak" because I don't think it was truly a sirloin as they stated. They also had frog legs, catfish , fried chicken, and all kinds of other items on the buffet. So for 12.99 you do get a lot to chose from and the dessert bar has quiet the selection on it. When we arrived back to our table the rolls were there waiting on us and it was paired with some pink butter. Now at first I was not sure about this pink stuff so I tried just a little and realized it was strawberry butter. Now this was a first for me and I do have to say that strawberry butter is pretty good even the hubs liked it and that is saying something. Now here comes the not so great part of our experience....As we were sitting there eating I was facing toward the kitchen so I could see who came in and out of it. I did notice there was a lot of traffic that was not workers coming from back there. Kids coming from out of the kitchen, men in sleeveless shirts coming from back there. Now I assume this was the owners family but when you are dealing with food you don't let just anyone in your kitchen when you are serving the public. Towards the end of our meal the little boy that had been back and forth in the kitchen area came out and spoke to who I think is the owner about a dog. She then proceeded to tell him not to bring the dog through the kitchen and to take it out the back door. So not only do you have people who don't work there (and if they did they don't need to be wearing cut out sleeveless shirts) coming out of a place you fix food you also have a dog in the back where food is being prepared. While the service was great the food a good price for the money I just can not see myself going back to a place who so carelessly allows things like this to go on in a kitchen. Passing through Paris my Dad and I happened upon Old West. We arrived around 4pm on a weekday and were seated with waters within a minute or two of entering. The menu had many different options but they have a killer buffet deal during the week (Monday - Thursday 9.99) A few items off the top of my head from the buffet were: Baked and Fried Chicken, Hamburger Steak, Fried fish, green beans, sweet and regular potatoes, soup, salad, cornbread. Everything I ate was fresh and as hot or cold as expected. They even give you a complimentary basket of dinner rolls which was nice. We went on a Sunday evening and found to our suprise there was a buffet. Everything was so good I was sad I didn't have room for more. We came back Thursday evening and ordered off the menu. The fresh hot bread at the table was awesome. Service was pleasant and everyone did their best to make us feel at home. There was quiet music in the background with a very western decor. We had come for the fried chicken that was in the buffet but it is not on the menu. No problem the waitress convinced the cook to make my wife a breaded chicken breast. It was so good we told them they should include it on the menu. You want a good meal and a quiet night out this is the place for you. Ps. you have to try the homemade ranch dressing. Food was ok but nothing special. Many of the buffet utensils were wrong for the food they were being used for making a mess of the food. Desserts had huge spoons that destroyed the pies, you try to get a slice and it is a mangled mess. The meatloaf had the same problem. The floors looked clean but were super slippery. Like butter slippery. Waitstaff was great and really on the ball. I will give them a better rating when they fix these issues. They are new and i am sure will sort out the issues soon. read more
