I'm a big fan of popping in here on weekdays over weekends. There's so much stuff and not a ton of room so it's really rad when you snag an off-peak moment to peruse. There's a shop cat, Charlie, that I've never seen leave the comfy chair in back and the owner, Heather, who is coolAF and actually super young- which is not typically what you'd expect from the owner of an antique and odd art shop. There's jewelry, Knick knacks, LOTS of art, of course. Many originals and if Heather is there she can magically tell you the origin story of the art and artist for EVERYTHING in the shop... and there's like 3000 things in the shop. Like any antique shop, it can be hot or miss and there's often piles or cramped aisles but that's called having character in the antique biz (I don't actually know that, just guessing) and I feel right at home here.

So far, I have found most items to be fairly priced, with several higher ticket surprises that made me laugh out loud. But pricing is not on the owner. It's on the renter. On that note, unkempt rental spaces are an eyesore and probably impact newcomers returning, or business reviews. Also, if I have to "dig" through boxes, I'm not buying. I encourage sellers to display everything & make all wares easily accessible to a potential buyer. People come in to purchase. You want to sell your stuff? Don't make them dig and sweat over a box to find vintage linen napkins. Seriously. That said, I've found and purchased an array of items here I have enjoyed very much. Recycled (and curated) home decor is still the theme here and with stock contained inside and in the yard out back. So I was interested to visit the new 'costume shop' in the Railroad District that opened this summer to see what they had in stock. Renaissance Rose offers a variety of themed costumes you can rent or purchase. They have packaged costumes similar to what you'll find around Halloween at other retailers, but also some more interesting pieces. At this point their website seems to be pretty basic, so hopefully that will expand in the future. After visiting both stores, I think the main location still has the broadest selection of items for purchase. Especially wigs, hosiery and accessories. But, if you are looking for a more unique rental, then the costume shop is worth a visit. I was most interested in the hair pieces near the back of the shop.

Jeans are in good/great condition and found a few designer brands. The prices are similar to Poshmark or ebay. Macy's & designer branded Jeans for $9-$15 is a deal! It's a consignment store NOT a thrift store; selection is based on the population selling their stuff. That being said, there are still some great finds for the under 40yr crowd. A LOT of jeans sizes 0-6. A decent selection for jeans size 6-14 and several racks for "plus sizes". Not a great variety of men's clothing. It's there, but slim pickin's. It's worth a visit just to check out the constantly changing inventory; new arrivals on the front racks. It feels better buying previously purchased clothing vs buying new and better for the environment too!! Today was a sale "buy 5 items, get 20% off your total" I'm a fan :D

The guy was spending like 10-mins just explaining details about jewelry they sell to a customer who did not want to buy anything just for fun! The lady behind the counter who helped me was super friendly and nice. And she wrapped what I bought with a lot of care. I wish I lived in Ashland and could visit them more often. I bought a few of their beautiful leather bookmarks for myself, but they're going so fast because everyone loves them and wants one! I wish they had things they sell in their store on their website too, so I could order more bookmarks, but sadly that's not the case.
