Great selection of vintage clothing. Finding well made pieces in natural fibers instead of plastic has become increasingly rare, but this shop had an excellent range of sweaters, flannels, and jeans. The sales associate was exceptionally helpful during my search for the right pair of jeans she went back and forth to find different sizes and variations until we landed on the perfect fit. I'm really glad I stumbled upon this store during my quick trip to the area. read more

Three Penny Mercantile was probably the most fun shop we visited throughout our Ashland mini-vacation. From the get-go, the staff were welcoming and friendly, engaging us in conversation about all sorts of nonsense that had nothing to do with the shop, such as roller skates (which one of the ladies was wearing), sci-fi, and life in general. It was a nice personal touch that really endeared us to the store, and stands in stark contrast to the blasé, unaffected state of "customer service" we so often encounter at other shops. Everything in the shop oozed with unique or distinct design, hand-picked by the eye of someone with an eye for flair, flamboyance or fun. Prices were all very reasonable, which came as a surprise in a tourist town like Ashland. While my wife perused the clothing racks, I plumbed the various paperback books on the shelves, picked one out and walked away happy with my choice, for $5 bucks! Not intending to name drop, I asked the attendants if it was OK to take pictures for Yelp, to which they happily agreed, and seemed very thankful. So much so, in fact, that the owner (my guess) told me to pick out another paperback for free! Sometimes, there are perks! My wife also purchased a cute pair of key earrings. Another great perk about the shop was that it stayed open late...like, really late, compared to everything else but the bars. We walked by a few minutes to 11pm and the doors were still open, and music could be heard thumping from within. Had we not been en route to somewhere else, we probably would have popped in again, just to say hey! We'll definitely be making a return stop the next time we are in Ashland, if for no other reason than I'll likely be expected to provide a detailed review of the books I purchased! read more

Real cool shop. I had bought my favorite pair of sunglasses here years ago, but I had lost them so I thought I'd try and see if they had the same or similar. After scoping on my own, I showed the worker a photo of the old sunglasses, then they proceeded to look through a bunch of glasses table top that I hadn't seen. So, I began searching on my own. Eventually, I found a pair I liked... paid and was on my way. I feel like you can always find something you like here. read more

The staff here are so nice!! I needed some boots with traction and the second I walked in they were so so helpful! They have really cute and interesting items and they were the only place open at 8pm on Easter! I found the perfect boots for $20! Lifesavers! read more

The woman working in the front was so sweet! She showed us different jewelry and was so helpful! she was willing to bargain and was so sweet about it, she explained the history of some of the pieces. Some of the things are a bit pricy but great place overall i highly recommend read more

Very weird place. It's about 50/50 on whether I have a really good or really bad experience here, and there doesn't seem to be an in between. Employees/owner are always odd, you just have to hope it's the good kind of odd on your visit. Or you can avoid the place if you don't like to try your luck, but you may miss out on some interesting stuff! read more

Three Penny is a pretty cute store with a combination of new and used hipster clothing for men and women. The one thing that makes it difficult for me to support this store is their prices. For things like forever 21 and old navy, they often price them at what seems to be near their original value. The kicker is what they pay for things you bring in... They'll often try and give a price for your bulk items. I've gotten into the habit of having them itemize for me what each item is worth. HOWEVER!!! I'll go back in and se my things priced WAY higher than what they said they could sell it for... This dishonesty is really not cool! Avoid consigning here if possible- Dejavu is much more honest and transparent in paying you out for clothes. read more

I loved this store ever since they opened! This is a great secondhand store (with some new merchandise near the front). The selection is very unique and I always come out with at least one awesome item. The fitting rooms are pretty small which is hard when you have so many items you want to try on. I'd say the pricing is fair. It's not crazy out of the water like a "vintage" store, but it's nothing like the steal prices at Goodwill. This has definitely become one of my favorite (if not favorite) stores to shop in Ashland. read more

Little to not public health guideline compliance --- staff had masks down below their chins. One staff member was chatting with a customer and both were wearing masks below their nose and mouths. Way to cool for an over the hill Gen X-er like myself but it's mostly our old clothes from the 80's that have embarrassingly made a comeback with the teens and twenty something's. Three Penny Mercantile is a cute boutique shop in the old opera house. They mainly sell clothing and have a few other knick knacks too. The selection is prices are great. The cashier cut me a deal on an unmarked shirt so I got 2 great shirts for $25. The cashier was very friendly. I definitely recommend this shop. read more

I've shopped here before and never felt the need to write a review, but this last time ticked me off. Went in with a group of girlfriends and our bfs, but salesgirl was on her phone and didn't greet any of us! Its funny, I walk through downtown probably every other week or so, and you can see the sales people here on their phones from their front window on the sidewalk all the time! So, I'd recommend moving the register or blocking the window. Its pretty funny! Maybe I'm old school, but I don't wanna see the cashier playing candy crush. Place smelled horrible of mothballs. First piece of clothing I picked up had a goodwill tag still on it next to their tag, which had a crazy mark up! What a joke! I buy a lot of second hand clothes in ashland, and Deja Vu is a million times better. Sale people are so nice, prices and selection are much better, and I've never seen a goodwill tag once! I loved this little shop. Their items were in good condition and they had a great selection of sizes even though the shop itself is on the smaller side. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. I found a pretty purse that was higher priced than other thrift shops I've been to, but it's good quality and has no wear so worth every penny. I will definitely come here when we visit Ashland again. And for the record, it's nice to be able to recycle and upcycle quality items rather than throw our dollars away supporting cheaply made Chinese sweatshop throwaway items.
