On some real ass shit, my burger was wet lol. I ordered the big cheese with only cheese. i mainly came for the beer cheese and pub chips. As I took my 3rd bite I knew something wasn't right. When I say this mf burger was wet, I don't mean the top or bottom bun, I mean the BURGER. I was barely squeezing this burger and its just flooded my plate with juice. Shit was disgusting annd I have never had a burger that tasted "wet" or whatever that was. I eventually told the waitress when she asked me if I wanted a box to go LOL. the look on her face when I said "wet" was hilarious. She took the food and came back and told me she took it off my tab and AGREED with my statement of the burger being wet. she called it "oily." The waitress was awesome, whatever cook/chef cooked that shit needs to be got damn fires bruh. was the most disgusting shit I've ever had in my Life. Just a piece of advice. We ate at the Olde Hickory Tap Room on our way through Hickory. The food, service and beer were all excellent and I would give a 5 star rating but the restaurant was kind of grubby. That is a true turn-off. The owners need to get a grip on the maintenance and they'd have a real gem on their hands. read more

Such a enjoyable lunch and tasting. Loved the retro vibe of the bar and dining room with tons of classic beer pull handles and signs. Sat at the bar and proceeded to spit a flight of 10 beers for $10. This had the potential to be a bad situation as how can every beer be good. But although there were some lesser favorites such as the stout and here and Pilsner.,all in all they have a solid line up. Lunch was delightful and inexpensive for about $9 I had a smoked turkey sandwich which upon the recommendation of our waitress I had it toasted and added a slice of cheese. Game changer. Have lived in NC for 12 years and have never been to downtown Hickory. It's a nice little area and the Tap Room is a golden nugget. Service is great and selection of beers outstanding. We stopped for lunch. Wife had the Big bird chicken sandwich and I had the Reuben with side salad. The reuben was probably the best I've had in the southeast. It was a $2 up charge to replace a side with the salad but it was huge. Lidia was our bartender. She was attentive but also gave us great recommendations. read more

Great traditional pub in the heart of downtown! Lots of FREE parking within a short walk from the business. I enjoyed hanging at one of the bar area high tops for an NFC playoff game a couple weeks back. We cruised into town for the day to get some shopping done and before we knew it the game had started so we pulled up yelp to find a locally owned classic bar vibe. It was 4:45 on a Saturday afternoon and we were seated almost immediately. Our server was slammed with a full section but did stop by to let us know she would be right with us to order. We ordered a couple IPA's and mozzarella sticks to start but the marinara sauce was cold which was our initial disappointment and the start to why I gave this a 3 star rather than 4 or 5. Caesar salad was fine and my wife ordered the Pub cheddar burger with fries. I ordered the Martin(Jerk Chicken) Sandwich with pub chips and beer cheese dipping sauce. Burger and fries were standard and we loved the house-made chips with beer cheese! The Martin on the other hand was missing the jerk seasoning/sauce and the plate had to have sat in the expo window for 5 minutes longer than it should have as the "toasted sourdough bread" was a soggy mess from the tomato and freshly washed lettuce. I didn't see any signs of the bread actually being toasted and when I dove into picking up the sandwich it fall apart before I ever took a bite. I was disappointed to say the least and with it being Saturday dinner rush with a line-up out the door for folks waiting on a seat we finished up and paid out. The server/food runner were nice enough and I understand noticing the bread was soggy along with chicken was missing the key flavor ingredient is really the expo/shift-lead/kitchen managers JOB before any food is run to a table but still unsatisfactory. I would have said something but no one ever asked so I figured this was the next best way to let ownership/management know about the COLD MARINARA & Flavorless chicken & INEDIBLE "toasted" bread on the martin. This long established restaurant/bar in Hickory NC definitely satisfies the appetite and quenches the adult thirst with a great quality menu and an overwhelming choice of craft beers and any kind of liquor/liqueur you could think of. Friends tend to congregate while the crowd there is so friendly it isn't hard to make a friend or find a possible connection with someone of the opposite sex. My favorite are the buffalo wings which come in several different flavors and the homemade chips with homemade blue cheese dip and beer cheese. Come give The Tap Room a try! I would give 3 stars just for the food and the draft beer was fine (3.5). But I really enjoyed the service (5) and learning about the history of the place and the beer steins they keep from the bartender. You can buy steins and your name will be engraved on them. They keep them there and you can use them for life when you go in and get a discount on your drink. The bartender was really nice in helping us choose drinks. They had cool local incorporations like brewing an olde ale sweetened with sorghum but the flavor was pretty standard. We also got a floral wheat that was grapefruity and light that was cool. I got an APA that also tasted pretty standard. For the food, we got the Shem Creek crab sandwich, chicken tenders, and bbq sandwich. The crab cakes weren't very crab-y flavor and the tomatoes had definitely been refrigerated (grainy texture). The chicken tenders were really really dry to me. This place was average. We stopped in here to kill time between swim sessions at my daughters meet. We order the pub chips, pineapple pizza and chicken salad sandwich. The pub chips were Ohio's but about 1/3 of them were overdone and burnt. The pizza was too doughy and didn't taste fresh. My daughter loved her chicken salad sandwich. Because we were there to kill time this part didn't bother me so much but it would have if I was just going out to eat. We had to wait for our meal for nearly an hour, though the pub chips came out right away. They weren't overly busy. The people who sat down after us were served about 20 minutes before we were. After waiting about 40 minutes we asked our waitress and she said our food was up next. It still didn't come out for 20 more minutes. We suspected our waitress forgot to put our order in as a pizza and chicken salad would take at most 15 minutes to prepare. Overall I would probably try to other Hickory Station restaurant next time. I love the casual and fun atmosphere of this place. It has a small town vibe yet is a large space with lots of craft beer, live music and decent food. Our service was nothing special but we got our food and drinks and we paid and everything went fine. As for food. Everything that my friends and I ordered was fine. The pizza I had was really tasty but I wish it had more sauce on it. Our server never came to check on us so I was never able to order it. The fish and chips were really yummy and cooked nicely. Comfortable setting with good food and even better beer. My wife and I were on our way to the mountains for a get away weekend and decided to stop in hickory and grab a snack and a pint on the way. Being familiar with Olde Hickory's beers we stopped in and we're glad we did. To be real, nothing blew us a way but everything was good. My wife and I shared the mozzarella sticks and fish and chips. Both came out hot. The batter held onto the fish and was cooked properly. The mozzarella sticks were simple but tasty. For a beer I had a "hickory stick stout" which had a really nice malt profile cut well with hops to make a fine and balanced beer. Their "ruby lager" is a nice beer as well. I do feel as if I should add that fish and chips are traditionally served with fries, not chips. I had a feeling (considering they had chips on the menu) that it was going to be served with chips so I asked for a substitute of fries. They had no issue making the substitution. Wow, after all the hype, I was really disappointed in the Tap Room. The food was very disappointing - I got a bread bowl which ended up being over baked and bland bread with veggie soup that was honestly worse than Campbell's canned stuff. My husband got a burger, which he was really disappointed in too. The atmosphere is okay - it's your typical crowded pub. Their beer was good, but their only "tap list" was a receipt print out of their options, with no descriptions or anything. Our waiter was not great, and was rude and snarky, accusing us of having fake ID's because we're from out of state. Overall, I would not recommend this place and won't be going back. The Olde Hickory Station right across the parking lot has way better quality food, better atmosphere and staff, way more beer options, and is just a much better place for a similar price range. read more

I like the entrees, I.just wish there were more healthier options here, especially sides and for children. For.a child they offer fried chicken tenders, mac and cheese(kraft for 7$!) and grilled cheese. They don't offer milk, just.soda and juice and the sides are only French fries or an apple. 7.50 for Kraft mac and cheese and apple and water is ridiculous. My wife and I entered in a very good mood, and while we left in a good mood, it was due to our love and affection. After arriving around 1 on a Saturday, which is of course a busy time, we were seated pretty quickly. Our waitress appeared before long, asked us for our drink order, and left. She never shared her name or smiled, and she kept both of these streaks going for the rest of our visit. When [insert name here] returned, we ordered, then talked and waited. And waited. And waited. I'm not an impatient person, and neither is my wife, but this was simply too long, particularly for what we ordered (2 sandwiches). Our meal finally arrived. I had ordered chips but was given fries instead, and these were lukewarm, sadly. My Reuben was large, thick, and delicious, and the pickle spear was fine. My wife's chips were also only lukewarm; her barbecue grilled cheese, on the other hand, was great. Our high hopes were fairly dashed by this visit, so I don't know if we will give the Tap Room a second chance. Been here a few times, mostly for lunch but also for dinner. Food is always good and service is usually pretty good. Last time my wife and I had lunch, she ordered a chicken sandwich and I ordered a burger. Both were delicious. My wife wanted to go back the next day for the same chicken sandwich!
