Oliphant Honees Honees: Oliphant Brewing was founded just over a decade ago in Somerset, WI (which is practically MN near the Twin Cities). Being an avid reader, I know never to judge a book by its cover, but the artwork on the can is honestly what got me to check out Honees Honees. It's dubbed a peanut butter & honey golden ale, which is an ale brewed with honey and lactose, with peanut butter flavor and caramel color. The artwork that so powerfully snatched my attention sort of conveys that in its own unique and trippy way. Pouring the ale reveals a clear dark gold/amber color. I found the peanut butter to be stronger on the nose than the palate. Taste favored honey, with hints of peanuts, caramel malts, and a sweet (for a beer) finish. It weighs in at 5.6% ABV. I have been to Oliphant a dozen or so times (probably more) and I always love everything about. The taproom is small but has a great vibe with friendly faces all around on both the staff and the patrons. There is also an amazing patio in the front that is the place to be in the summer. This is such an interesting brewery. We stopped by for a beer (I actually had a root beer) before a concert because we love breweries. This one did not disappoint. There is seating inside and a really nice patio with a food truck. My husband tried a IPA which he enjoyed. The bartender was amazing. She was friendly, efficient and knowledgeable about the beer. She was really good at making suggestions and describing different choices. We got there just after opening and the place was full. Awesome, small brewery tucked behind a liquor store. They've got a very cute, but small patio and a taproom about the same size. They've also got a food truck serving up staples like burgers, fries, curds, etc. The bartender has always been super helpful and friendly; happy to answer any questions I have and help pick out a flight. The whole place is also totally dog friendly. They specialize in sour beers but their IPA and light offerings are always excellent. You definitely need to try their "chonees chonees" and "summer squishee". They've also got some in-house THC edibles and drinks along side a few more main stream offerings. One of my favorite places to road trip to and I highly recommend it. read more

Easily the best thing in Somerset WI (though there's not much competition haha). Great beer, so many wacky combos and I think "that's not gonna work" somehow it always f*cking does. Super cool staff. I'd recommend going at an off hour and chat to the bartender. Every time I've been in I've had a very enjoyable time. Super cool art all over the walls. Well worth the journey from the cities. Excellent brewery! Two out of the three beers we had definitely pushes this brewery into the five star category for us! To start on the beers we had the Super Squishy with Pineapple and Coconut features to the flavor. A very good start to trying this brewery out. But after that were the beers that really won us over. Chargoth was the next one up. This Vienna Smoked Lager lives up to it's description and was a real joy to drink! The final beer that made it to craft beer bliss for us was the Somos Extremos. This was a golden coffee ale in which I loved! Great flavor profile! In my craft beer exploring you don't see golden coffee ales that much but when you do they are always a real treat! read more

Great selection of brews with a pretty "towny" atmosphere. There is a small parking area, a patio for the summertime and two smaller rooms inside equipped with different games to play. The inside is decorated with unique artwork made by (I think?) one of the employees. My husband loved their sours and I had a "gluten-reduced" seltzer. What a great Sunday afternoon stop. Olpihant has that vibe that sets the mood just right. Eclectic location with plenty of surrounding art to make the moment right. Ommmgawd! The bear is is phenomenal!! Heading home from a small town in WI all day wedding photography gig for a deer friend and wasn't quite ready to go home to an empty apartment on a Saturday night. So popped open Yelp to see what breweries were between where I was at and 2 hours from home. Dear Oliphant brewery, you freakin blew my mind with your creative concoctions!!! And my first sip of Mind Talent dang near has me pondering if I should move here! Ya...just to beer near your amazing beer! After chatting with the cool owner Matt, and asking allll the Q's- I found out that this brewery really dominates on Sours, along with beers. They keep them on tap as well as MANY stocked in their Crowler for sale fridge. What a funky, geeky brewery. Loved the funky art. It's hidden behind a liquor store on the main strip. We almost missed it. We're got in the on a Friday. The reason we discovered them was we were eating at a local restaurant and they had one of their beers on tap. Disclaimer: I haven't been a beer drinker for most of my life. My husband is constantly having me try them. Today we hit a sour they had on tap that got us to go to the brewery. At the brewery: outside seating. Indoor small space seating. Seating at the bar is limited. Check out the small attached back room where there is a secret life of VHS tapes. Almost floor to ceiling of VHS tapes. Pick one, put it in, and enjoy the throw back movie. Most my childhood is on VHS tapes. I loved this. We tried a couple different sours. We're found the one from the restaurant and ended up getting a crowler. We also got a crowler of the Super Squishy. We hung out, watched Batman, played a couple games, and drank. Oh my goodness. Get the number 8 peanut butter porter with the cacao nibs. This is their best drink in the house. I tried their full flight and the number 8 was the best one. I liked their coffee one second best. Great ambience. Lots of families here with their kids too. Cool collection of manga and boardgames. I would recommend this place to anyone who finds themselves in the area and who likes craft beer. read more

We are fans of Oliphant brews, so a stop at the brewery made sense. Then we had to find the brewery in Somerset. It's cleverly hidden behind the liquor store on the main drag, worth the search. It's a fun place that I really enjoy. Our barkeep offered us different tastes of the more unusual batches (the sour was interesting). Great selection of beers and THC beverages. And it's a fun and quirky space. Draft root beer for the kids or those that aren't imbibing. The food truck has some pretty good Mexican inspired food, too. The food blunt is tasty but watch out for the grease. And the carnitas are several steps past Minnesota/Wisconsin spicy. read more

Time warp to 80's Five stars - no hesitation Go here. Just trust me. Shocking that John O would give five stars to a brewery, right? This place deserves it. The beer selection is expansive and constantly rotating. The menu is almost completely, if not entirely, new every time that I go here. I don't think I have had a beer here that I would give less than four stars to. My favorites include the Evantacles (Scotch Ale), Tyrant Steve Dirkul (Dark Lager), Also-Bort (Belgian Pale Ale), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Roshi (Double IPA). It always changes drastically, though, so who knows what you will find. First time I went here, drove past the place on the first go around. It is in a garage behind a liquor store near the Super America gas station on the other side of the street. They have some signage pointing you in the right direction now, but it is behind the main drag into town. If you have an affinity for the 80's and 90's, this place should be up your alley. They have an extensive VHS collection of movies like Die Hard, Wayne's World and Dazed and Confused as well as Nintendo and Sega Genesis games. Many of their beers reference reference pop culture icons from the era. They have had a Party On, Wayne and Party On, Garth beers when I have been there in the past. Both were totally excellent! Finally, they have a super talented artist that does a chalkboard menu with all of their current beers. Got to see him in action this past Friday. See my pictures. "Nerd themed Minnesota brewery located in Wisconsin" Some key highlights: 1. The place is located behind a liquor store, that's prime real estate right there! 2. Small-ish bar/taproom with surprise back room that has a projector for movies. I didn't know VHS tapes still existed, but now I know where they all live. 3. 20 beers on tap... and all 20 beers are good! People, lets be honest... we go to breweries all over the place and try a wide variety of different beers. Sometimes they are good but more often than not they are terrible. I'd say I'm sorry but I'm not. I'm not because it is rare to find a brewery that has 20 good beers on tap! While the names of the beers were goofy and played on characters from movies/shows, the flavor profiles were on point! Trust me I don't love every style of beer, but I am willing to sample them and figure out what I will enjoy drinking a full glass of or buy a 6-pack to share with others. This. Place. Has. It. Great beer in a very cool atmosphere. Not what you would expect to find in Somerset, WI. While they are unfortunately not doing flights at the moment, we still managed to try a few interesting things, including the chocolate squishy and smoked wheat erryday. Love the names and descriptions, and the beer was quite good too. Outside of this taproom experience I have tried a few others with the Also Bort (a Belgian trippel) being a personal favorite. If you buy 3 off-sale items (crowlers, 4 packs, 6 packs) you get a token for a free tulip pour (pretty sure that is their 12 oz pour). Awesome service too. We will be back for sure! read more

Oliphant is yet another brewery we've been meaning to get out to after hearing good things from several friends. We finally had a nothing-going-on-at-all Saturday so decided to make a trip across the river to try it out. So pulling in, definitely not what I expected! They kind of share a corner/building with a liquor store (Liquor Depot), so if you're coming from Main St, first thing you'll see is the liquor store with the wall on Depot St painted with a rad looking chameleon. Oliphant is behind the liquor store. They have a small parking lot, and there was a food cart (cart, not truck!) set up outside selling lumpias and cupcakes. Inside is also small, with a handful of tables (more in a back room with a TV and VHS player). It was fullish but not crowded when we showed up around noon, and we sat at the bar. They had 12 beers on tap, all listed on a blackboard with hilarious chalk drawings to go with them, so hubby and I ordered the double flight for all 12 and shared. The beers are great, ranging from exceptional to good to maybe 'eh' depending on your beer preferences. Standouts for me were the cream ales, the IPA, one of the saisons (dg2c2mf, never asked what that stood for), and the gose aged in tequila barrels with sea salt and lime (Hobotown 2.0). The bartenders were friendly and were all about having Starling at the bar. She even did some modeling for them with a 4 pack of their Lizardize Mariguana IPA. After our flights we each ordered a pint, I went with the IPA and Nate with the vanilla cream ale (Leche de Kitte). I ordered a bunch of lumpias to enjoy with my pint, shout out to the food cart whose name escapes me, they really hit the spot. To top it all off they proudly display their "Best of the Twin Cities" award for best new brewery above their bar. I can't help but chuckle at that. Certain liquor stores in the cities carry some cans of their beer if you want to try, but I definitely recommend just getting out there and making a day of it. We'll definitely be back on our next drive through WI! read more

Best Beer I have tasted lately! I had a flight of six offerings and really loved three and the others are still better than a lot of beer out there. Very humble space with two friendly, knowledgeable, and fabulous guys that own and run this new brewery. Although the brewery is still new the beer taste as if it was crafted with mastery and love. I loved the land eels and sea snakes best! They also pay homage to Wayne and Garth TOTALLY.....EXCELLENT.......They have a milkbaby milkstout that is dang delicious also!..I highly recommend taking a little trip to Somerset and getting your SCHWANG on.....Party time! read more

Yeah...their beer is the real deal. There are places that have decent beer and you're like, "hmm...not bad. I like this place". And there's Oliphant where you're like, "wow, great beer! What a great brewery! During my visit they had a sour series going on called Harry Tungus and the Goblet of Sours. They had six sours available and six of their other beers. I tried them all. My favorite was the Super Squishy and the Anufart Blackberry. As for the other beers the Karate guy IPA was super solid and they had an Octoberfest Lager that really intrigued me. We got a small tour of the process and it was one of the best tours I've been on. I have been to 117 breweries in Minnesota about 30 in Wisconsin and 10 others around the country. I have not done tours of them all but, I have done a lot. I loved the kindness of the people running this brewery. I also really enjoyed maybe new people I met like two ladies who were just kind and fun to talk to, a gentleman and his girlfriend who train dogs, and even bummed into a friend from the cities. This is a must go to brewery for anyone who loves beer and a good experience. read more

This place is a brewery that isn't very well known or distributed - especially in Minnesota. I only went because I got a Groupon, and I'm very glad that I did! I could not find a beer that I disliked. All of the crafts from Oliphant are unique and delicious! It is easy to tell that the employees here enjoy their job and are embracing their creativity. My personal favorite was Honees Honees. Peanut butter & honey ale. This went down so smoothly and was simply amazing. Just a hop across the border from the Twin Cities is a nice little brewery call Oliphant. I've heard only good things about it, so I decided to take a trip to find out for myself. I walked into the place and it was packed, but that didn't last long as the party that was there was leaving. Awesome, as an introvert, I like to have some room to enjoy the beer. TEN beers on tap in oliphant! TEN! that was a lot for the size of the place. I was quite impressed already. My flight consisted of 6 brews (I had to drive so I limited it to only six). I decided to stick with the lighter brews and I was not disappointed in the slightest. After each brew I became more and more excited for what the next one would taste like. Flavorful originality is what I'm calling it. All solid above average beers. I ended up taking a couple growettes home with me to enjoy later. The creativity flowing out of the place in their brews and how they name them is incredible. This is definitely a brewery to watch in the future. read more

Omg!!! The beer is FANTASTIC! Personal favorite: the Groot! For a gin fan, the juniper really pops in this one! The staff is incredibly knowledgable about each and every pour. I appreciate that. This is a true craft beer garage! Very kitschy, and unlikely to appeal to mainstream tastes (how many times can you watch 'Wayne's World'?), but a dream come true for any guy (or gal) who hopes of a man cave to retire to each day. Biggest complaint: their website is SO quirky that it's hard to decipher. The beer, however, MORE than makes up for it with each distinctive brew. Keep 'em coming! read more

This place was too fun. I have already recommended it to several people. My brewery partner and I took a little trip to Wisconsin and back around to the cities this weekend stopping at breweries and wineries along the way. I really had never heard of Somerset and I am pretty partial to my favorite breweries in Mpls, but this was the best! It has so much character and the beers are phenomenal. I wish it were closer! First of all, the guys working were great. Super friendly, super helpful, and attentive. They do a great job of just making the whole place feel like a little community. It is a small space and I felt like everyone was chatting and having a good time together. The space is awesome. If you are a movie fan you will find yourself reminiscing quite a bit while you are here. They even have a whole room filled with VHS's, and their beers have movie references as well. We tried a few-one was their seasonal pumpkin spice beer, another was called Bees, and I don't remember the other I just remember my taste buds were happy. We took a growler to go and it is simply the cutest thing ever. I will be keeping it as decor. It was a great experience and I hope to go back soon! read more
