Stopped in last Friday to cool off prior to heading to the Yacht Club Music Festival at Harriet Island. This is a small brewery, but I'd say they offer a variety. Including N/A beers which we were so happy to see and enjoy. The one bartender we interacted with was friendly and personable. We sat up at the bar as there was seating open there. They have an area to grab games to play while hanging out and socializing. They also offer snacks for purchase and had a food truck on site. That pizza was YUMMMMOOO!! Bathrooms are private stalls. Small but packs a big punch!! Bartenders were phenomenal and offered lots of suggestions, very polite. This was the first warm day of the year so it was busy, lots of people on their small but nice patio. Plenty of kids and fur babies!! They accept the pub pass here and there are some good options. I got the Claw-foo-tea, which is a red ale, very smooth and I even got a crowler to go! My second beer was the Dirt Bikes Go Vrooom!!! Wabasha coming in strong with a patio, beer & service being good enough to order a second round. We ordered as one and done, pay right away - the gent reminded us that we could always order more, if we wanted to... and we found that we did indeed want to. After ordering, we headed outside for a seat by the fire. It was a beautiful Saturday night, and we were hoping to catch the food truck. Unfortunately, it ended at 7pm & thus we started our dinner search while sipping. A Mexican joint was added to our radar, with delivery available- sweet. I've long thought that with the proliferation of microbreweries and tap rooms throughout the Twin Cities the ones that would survive are the ones that have good beer and are a welcoming neighborohood gathering spot. Wabasha succeeds on both accounts. Their patio is not fancy, but it's plenty spacious. We were pleased to find live music -a young woman singing with her acoustic guitar-while we settled in with beer for a round of cribbage. I've been a fan of the place since before it opened. I even participated in the kickstarter. They've brew both rotating and regular selections, but my favorite is the West Side Popper, a jalepeno infused cream ale. Perfect beer for any time of year. When we were there recently, we over heard a bartender saying ownership had recently changed hands. We hope the new owner takes what is good about it and only makes it better. read more

I was out in St. Paul and decided to jump across the river to give @wabashabrewing a try. They have a large outdoor space to bask in the sun when its nice out and a covered patio as well for those that have a sun aversion (or when its raining). Inside is a cozy space where I sat at the bar and enjoyed four beers plus a recommendation from the beertender. Lager del Sol: A smooth Mexican Lager with an aroma of light corn. Thick white foam and a hint of citrus flavor made me forget for a hot second that it was raining outside. Anniversary IPA: An Experimental IPA with a new hop variety, new malts, and new yeast for the brewery. It has a medium bitterness that doesn't express itself as astringent (good thing!) and mild notes of both grapefruit rind and spicy hops. A unique IPA for sure! Vanilla Porter: A malty porter with sweetness from the added vanilla. The body isn't too heavy which makes it easier to drink year round. The sweetness is controlled and provides balance to the roasty bitterness of the malt. Parts Unknown: A Black Cherry Sour with big bold tartness. If you like a sour that doesn't hide behind fruity sweetness, then this one's for you. Chatting with the beertender this is a newer beer for them, and as somebody who drinks a lot of Belgian sours I enjoyed this. High acidity and tartness with a medium-thin body. Strawberry-Rhubarb Kolsch: This Kolsch was fruited with strawberry and rhubarb. It is a summer crusher for sure! Fruity and sweet from the strawberry with a very mild tart / bitterness from the rhubarb. Crisp and clean from the lagering with some fruity esters from not just the fruit additions, but also the ale yeast. Glad that the beertender recommended it! read more

Wabasha Brewing Company has a super friendly staff with a nice variety on the draft list. The bartender was happy to chat and make suggestions for the beer lovers among us. If I wasn't visiting from out of state, I may have taken advantage of the to go growlers available; both the Mango Implosion IPA and Strawberry Rhubarb Kolsch were delightful summer brews. We visited on a Friday evening in July and sat outside to enjoy live music [super fun covers spanning the decades] and dive into eats from the food options onsite. We started with the visiting food truck Tater Tot Temptations sharing a few different tots options during our first round. After some additional drinking, we shifted with dinner from the parking lot kitchen ubereats situation with fried chicken sandwiches and Beast-Style loaded fries from Mr Beast Burger. All in all this is a great neighborhood spot for the Westside; would love to visit again the next time I'm visiting the area. read more

Pleasant evening with friends. The bartender was very knowledgeable about what he was serving. The patio was large and quiet with a large play area for kids. They have a limited number of snacks available as well as a a changing roster of food trucks. We did not try the food. My only complaint is that their nonalcoholic selection was very limited, but apparently they're totally fine with people bringing in food and drinks. Stopped in one Sunday morning a few weeks ago, just myself and two others there for most my visit. The beertender & I discussed several of the beers. I had a pint and in the midst of discussing my second one a couple came in. I lost the beertender to them. Hey, no problem. Ok.....problem!! Twenty minutes she stood chatting w them. FINALLY another couple came in, sat next to me, so she had to come over to help them. Thank you!!! I could order a beer and tab out!!! I always say no matter how good or bad the beer is somewhere, 90% of the reason I come back....or I guess I don't come back is because of who's behind the bar. I get that people have friends, or their favorites but we're all customers..... Little else ruins an experience more than having to wait for service in this situation. read more

Decent beer and no-frills space. Came on a decent enough evening to sit outside. The outdoor space here is nice, ample room on the side of the parking lot and a covered area right near the entrance. Didn't spend a lot of time inside, but looked to have plenty of space. Tried the Blueberry Cream Ale and the Raspberry Implosion IPA. Really enjoyed the Blueberry, very refreshing on a hot summer night. Not being a huge IPA person the Raspberry was still pleasant, plenty of berry flavor. Had a little date night at Wabasha and absolutely loved it! The beer was great and the staff is really nice too. Masks are required when you're walking into the place to order, walking between tables, and going to the bathroom. The staff is all wearing masks and face shields. We tried Zeus and Mango Implosion (both IPAs) and the West Side Popper and Minnesota Pale Ale. Zeus was really everything you want out of an IPA - hop, rich color, and undertones of Orange and grapefruit. Mango Implosion had more of an aftertaste of mango rather than a true undertone, but it was really good! Goes down a little smoother than Zeus. West Side Popper was DEFINITELY jalapeño lol! You can smell the jalapeño as you're going in for a sip. The jalapeño hits the back of your throat so it's not necessarily spicy but you still get a kick. The Minnesota Pale Ale was a good follow-up to the Popper. Didn't have a kick, but smoother and a little easier to drink haha Everything was really great, but four stars because the patio area by the entrance to the building is completely bee-ridden. I'm allergic to bees, so I was slightly on edge the entire time. I know there were flowers behind me but I wasn't expecting that many bees. read more

As I mentioned before, I have never had a beer here that I disliked which is pretty amazing! Hats off to the head brewer. Lots of space in a renovated space in the brewery as well as outdoor seating! Masking required when not at the table, but I didn't see any problems with any of the patrons on this visit (so it felt safe). Two delicious brews to try: West Side Popper (Jalapeño surprise) and the Red Bonnet Amber. The food truck was a perfect paring for both brews! No small tasting at this time (maybe due to Covid?). Our happy accident during this visit: a street vendor came into the brewery (after we ate, of course) offering freshly prepared goodies: tamales, enchiladas, and-well-I heard tamales and that's all I needed. Wabasha brewing has a wonderful neighborhood location and they have some encouraging partnerships with other local companies and food trucks. They don't brew many (any) stouts and have only one IPA on tap -- which is discouraging. I wish they'd tap other local breweries to round out their selection. Their recent Holy Smoke! raunch beer was a high point for me: a light, crisp amber with a hint of smoke and maple bacon. Not as dark as I craved... but It paired well with weekend Bloody Marys. We were here back around the first part of April and I'm just now getting to this. It is located kind of in an out of the way spot (kinda by the Wabasha Caves, around the corner from Boca Chica). On the edge of an slightly downhill from a residential area. Must be nice to have a place like this in your neighborhood that you can walk to. One big selling point here is that it is designed for the 21 and over crowd so it definitely has a more relaxed, vibe to it. So I liked this place immediately. They have about ten beers ready to go categorized by Light, Medium, Dark, Hoppy. I ordered the Implosion IPA (just couldn't bring myself to order the with Mango variation) and got to mooch a little off my wife flight. That West Side Popper is an interesting take I never would have thought of putting together. Jalapenos. Go figure. The Son of Eric Cream Ale was good too. My personal favorite was the Implosion. There is no food menu but they do encourage you to bring in your own and do have menus from some places in the vicinity for you to order for delivery. Saw a few people good a few doors down to the closest place and brought back tacos to go with their brew. Whats better than beer and tacos? They are open Wednesday thru Sunday. The new taproom they opened up last September looks great. There is a nice big lot next to the brewery and plenty of free parking on the street. A nice place to go for quality beer and be able to have a conversation with the person next to you without shouting. read more

My wife and I had a Groupon for 2 flights of beer for $11. Score. It turns out, it was their Octoberfest celebration, so we got a free mug for being one of the first 50 people there. Awesome. We entered the bar and one of my good buddies happened to be there with his new girlfriend. Awesome! We got a table on the side and had lots of laughs. Really good people. I got their lighter beers for my first flight. The blonde was really good and I enjoyed their pumpkin beer. My 2nd flight was all IPAs. All of them were fantastic! I really liked the mango IPA. Right off the bat, let me start off by saying this since I just learned about it from reading other reviews, it is great that they do not allow kids inside their taproom. I understand that some of the negative Yelp reviews come from that, but I actually respect them for that decision. I've visited over fifty breweries in Minnesota and taprooms are just not a place for children. There is nothing more irritating than having children screaming and running around in a taproom. A place meant for adults of drinking age to hang out and socialize with fellow adults, not children. Also taking into account the fact that the max capacity at this cozy taproom is sixty-one people, it makes zero business sense to allow children inside. That's just my two cents. I hate that I don't remember his name but the bartender who helped us on an early Sunday afternoon was fantastic! He was friendly, he had suggestions for beers to try out, he even brought out our flight to the table and we were able to pay from there too. Too often in the craft brewery scene you have these bartenders working that come off as uninterested or pretentious, so whenever someone goes out of their way to make me feel welcomed I will remember it. Good job, dude! Wabasha is not reinventing the wheel of brew-making and they don't have to because what they do they are doing it right. I had a flight with their West Side Popper Jalapeno Cream Ale, Implosion with Mango IPA, China Doll White Stout, and Brown Eyed Woman Brown Ale. I like trying weird things when it comes to beer and having had "spicy" or "jalapeno" beers and ciders in the past, they have not gone my way, yet I still order them for some reason. Thankfully, the West Side Popper was the most drinkable of the kind that I've tried. It carried a bit of heat but nothing unmanageable. It tasted like a jalapeño flavored beer. I'm sure it would pair well with some tacos. Getting a smaller pour of it is still probably the way to go, as I could see the heat building up with a pint or two of it. I've never tried their Implosion IPA alone, but the mango take on it was exactly what you'd expect. The mango made it a smooth drinker, balancing out the hops. Brown Eyed Woman is typical, nothing mind-blowing, but if you are a fan of brown ales you will enjoy it. I got some toffee taste on first sip and a bit of plum for aftertaste. The absolute winner and the best beer I tried at Wabasha was China Doll. The white chocolate white stout combination is delicious and I'm sad I did not grab a pint of it before leaving because it's worth having more than just a small pour of it. It tastes like white chocolate, plain and simple! It's light and easy to drink. Anyone who has a "sweet tooth" should enjoy this beer. Their flights are only a flat $10 regardless of which four beers you choose and there are no exceptions to which you can pick. For an even better deal, on Thursday's they have "happy hour" which means $7 flights. Now that is a steal! On the West Side of St. Paul, this is a perfect spot to check out if you are in the area and want to avoid the crowds and parking hassles of downtown. Good prices, good service, good beer. On the quest of visiting every single Minnesota brewery, I stumbled upon Wabasha Brewing randomly while wandering through St. Paul and so it became the stop #58. Instantly upon walking in I loved the vibe, the small yet cozy interior mostly made up of wood and brick, and a super friendly beertender who greeted me and my friends with a giant smile and a loud hello. For a small brewery they had a nice amount of beer offerings, from classic IPAs to more crafty and unique creations like the China Doll White Stout or the West Side Popper Jalapeno Cream Ale (and of course we tried those). They offer flights and that is always the best way to go if you're new to a brewery and just getting to know it. Trying as many different brews is always the goal. My personal favorite was the Implosion with Mango IPA. Same body and fullness as the OG Implosion but with a hint of sweetness from the mango flavor. Refreshing, light, and perfect for any sunny patio day. Another one I loved was the China Doll White Stout. It's a white chocolate white stout...just the fact that any chocolate beer can be a light beer always surprises me and usually in a good way. The flavors were perfectly balanced even though you can definitely taste the chocolate; it's smooth and light and works beautifully. Again, for such a small spot they have a big taste going on! I am someone who really enjoys when a brewery has a small kitchen or a small food menu just to enhance the experience because who doesn't like to nibble on a little snack while enjoying a cold beer? Since Wabasha is such a small spot, sadly, there was no kitchen and that's why one star has to go. They do have food trucks every once in a while which definitely helps! However, I did appreciate that they had chips and cheese curds, and other various snacks just in case you do want to munch on something. There was one beer that sounded delicious, Red Desert IPA, but they were out of it so, per the suggestion of our friendly beertender, I'm definitely going to have to hunt it down in the liquor store or make another visit to the taproom. Chances are, with how tasty all the beers were, we're going to pick up a lot more other brews from them for the summer as well and definitely be back to enjoy more pours. read more

This is random, unnecessary, and allows your beer to be exposed to bacteria and cross contamination - the concept for their beer selection board is a complete mess. Look for a paper menu located on the bar. - the "for sale" art on the walls does nothing for the atmosphere and is awkward in this space. - prices are about 1$ high - terrible location read more

Came here for happy hour...AND they actually have happy hour (3-6p - $2 dollars off pints). Yassss! The bartender/guy/girl that serves me beer was awesome. Helpful-ish. My questions weren't all that good. But I liked him nonetheless, he had a great sense of humor and was able to keep customers happy. They have chips for $1 (such good chips too) and beef sticks for $5. The beer selection is good (there's a lot to choose from (so almost anything you like they'll be able to find something that'll work for you. They have a parking lot which is nice (is decently large also. The inside is on the smaller side, but they also have a patio. TLDR: definitely worth checking out. read more

A great find in this quiet St. Paul neighborhood. And worth the trip if you don't live nearby. Our group tried a wide variety of beers including the West Side Popper jalapeno cream ale. We enjoyed each one, but the Implosion with Mango was an overall favorite. Unfortunately, they were out of the Belgian Tripel, but we will try another time! I was recently in the area and had a chance to visit the taproom. Really enjoyed the location and the beers. I particularly liked the Strawberry Rhubarb Kölsch and the Sir Doryu... I think that was listed as a Pub Ale, but is a British Dark Mild. Very enjoyable, easy drinking beer. I did also sample some of the Popper style beers. I'm normally not a fan of pepper beers, but I found these very drinkable. When I am back in the area I will definitely stop in again. Thanks! read more

This place is a hidden gem- seriously, I don't even know how I found it the first time. Tucked away in a corner in St. Paul, this sort of underground taproom has some really awesome beers. I've liked everything, and that's rare! Make sure you try the Jalapeno Cream Ale. Sounds bad, tastes awesome! Its small taproom, so seating can be limited, but its just so damn cozy! They have a lot of board games and a bunch of menus for places nearby, including several life changing taco joints. Oh, and they have a great happy hour! The taproom is small and cozy, like drinking in a buddies living room. They will be moving to a larger space in the front of the building sometime soon but I hope they keep this back area open. 6 beers on tap and I got a flight so I could try them all (obviously) The Red Dessert IPA was my favorite with the Son of Eric Cream Ale a solid second place.
