Now I could tell you all about how perfectly tasty everything is. From the classic banana puddings (I prefer the caramel version myself,) to the cookies, to the pineapple upside-down mini cakes. Yes, I could tell you that. But I want to speak to something deeper. I want to speak to belonging and community; and to fairness. As a biracial person with a brown sister, I feel the pull to support black and brown businesses. It's not a secret. And sometimes you do it, and sometimes you privately think "Damn. I wanna be supportive but this place is a mess." Then there's Sweet Life. NOT that. FILLED with good product at a great price, delivered by owners and staff who actually give a damn about being loving and supportive to all different types of people. And did I mention the sweets are POPPIN'? And to that statement of fairness. Today I came in to place an order, and when the price came up, for a moment I thought "Damn. That is a lot higher than I remembered, but I am not about to question them. They set the price and that price is what they deserve." So I paid. But then I noticed there was more in my bag that I'd asked for, and that there had been a miscommunication. When I tell you that this miscommunication was corrected with swiftness *AND* a smile. No shade. No drama. Just an "Ooops, oh well, here's your refund on the balance." I know this seems very basic but we all know it isn't. We have all been in that awkward situation where as a customer we have to point out an error, and the vendor turns it into a Shakespearan tragedy. Not Sweet Life. "Oops. Sorry! Fixed. Love you." So, to recap: Stunningly delicious sweets. Prices fair as hell. Communicative, inclusive staff doing the right thing. You need to take those money dollers and haul your ass over here TODAY. Now...where did I put my insulin pen?

I'd recommend the cinnamon rolls! -- The Sugary offers a variety of desserts ranging from cookies, cakes, muffins, and cupcakes. There are also a variety of "birthday/celebration items," like cards and candles. The interior is small, with one table, but very clean and well-decorated. The service is quick and conducive for to-go orders and they accept credit card. As there is only one register, if there is a line, it may take a while. When I was there, I was in and out in about 5 minutes. I ordered the cheesecake, rainbow cookie, and cinnamon roll. These were all so delicious and I'll be back soon for more! The cheesecake was decadent but had depth to its flavor and the crust was thick and solid. I really enjoyed the slice and it was large enough to be shared, so I felt the price was spot on for the value. The rainbow cookie was one of the best I've ever had, with its rich chocolate flavor, and was an elevated version of ones I've had in the past. Lastly, the cinnamon roll was a bit too sweet for me, but otherwise it was what I'd call "a perfect cinnamon roll." Fluffy, cinnamon-forward, and with lots of icing! I'd highly recommend The Sugary for any sweet treat cravings, but only if you have no allergies or dietary restrictions. They offer custom desserts but there is a disclaimer of cross-contamination risk.

I opted for their tiramisu as I was drawn to the adorable packaging. And as it turns out, there's more to it than meets the eye since it also tasted pretty good. I liked that it was only subtly sweet and pretty light and creamy. I didn't taste too much coffee rum in it, despite the warning about the alcohol content. This tiny shop closes around 3pm on Sundays, so make sure you go there soon enough in the day so that you can give their delectable sweets a try.

Sweet Indulgence has been popping up on my timeline since I have tried a few cinnamon roll places,…read moreso you know I wasn't going to pass this up. It's a small, black woman-owned bake shop. The cases were filled with all kinds of treats, but on Saturday and Sunday, that's when you can get the cinnamon rolls. They open at 11 am. I was 3rd in line, but I also pre-ordered. I got the 6 pack which allowed you to get 2 of each type of cinnamon roll. I wish the 4 pack allowed to you make a selection of what type you wanted. Maybe she could consider doing it. They were warm and smelled so good. Ok, so let's talk about the cinnamon rolls I got. "The Classic " was very good with the right amount of glaze, and tasted like homemade. 5/5 The "Sweet Potato" was the standout for me. It was flavorful with just the right amount of sweetness and freshness. The sweet potato complemented the bun and matched all of the each ingredient flavor for flavor. 5/5 The " Peach Cobbler" was the one that was my least favorite. Not because it wasn't good, but only because I prefer apple pie. But how you gonna go and not try them all? 4/5 Sweet indulgence is a special place. Everything is made fresh and loaded with a bunch of OOEY GOOEY GOODNESS!!!! Til we eat again...

Their…read moreSunday hour's definitely lured me there, as it's not hard to find in West Philly, about 1-2 blocks off of Baltimore Ave. on 55th street. The establishment was very inviting, decked out in a pink and black decor, very cute, clean and bright!! The display cases were very clear and enticing, as there were soooo many cupcakes, slices of cake, pies, and cookies. There was a special on cupcakes 2 for $7 which was not bad, I got a banana pudding cupcake and a carrot cake cupcake. (One to keep & One to give away lol I could've hung around that much goodness for longer but I was too tempted, lol I will be back. Just when I thought I was done, I was met with the Sweet Indulgence favorite: Cinnamon Rolls!!! I had to buy one, it was huge!!! Easily 2-3 ppl could have a nice portion. I bought it to share and so grateful I did just that. My order came to about $14, which was pretty reasonable. My family who had the banana pudding cupcake enjoyed, they said it was sweet enough and the cake was highlighted as the star of the show. I enjoyed the carrot cake cupcake, it was a nice balance of carrot cake and the sweet cream on the top. I shared the cinnamon roll and am awaiting feedback, I'm sure it was great! (Will try next time I visit, oh there will be a next time) Amongst all of this good stuff , what really stood out for me was the customer service!!! As soon as I walked up I was greeted by a young lady who didn't just ask if she could help me, but she actually stayed with me the entire time talking me through what I may or may not have wanted since it was my first time. She truly blew me away with her sincerity, friendliness and attentiveness from start to finish. I should've gotten her name, unfortunately I didn't but I will when I visit again. It was most certainly encouraged by receiving such great customer service by a young person, she may have been a teenager. Young people get such a bad reputation sometimes but this young lady could teach customer service to folks double her age. Bravo Sweet Indulgence!!! See you next time
