Vibe: Busy but not crowded on a Saturday afternoon. I set up shop for nearly three hours and saw quite a few people stop by. Very cute shopping area that can help you find a gift for anyone. Food: I was skeptical of the latte when it arrived because it was so light. I was worried it would just taste like flavored milk, but that was not the case. Nice roasted coffee without being bitter and the salted caramel syrup was delicious. The fruited chicken salad was not my favorite but I would like to try some more of their menu. read more

We stopped by Oliver & Co. on a Friday morning on our way to a weekend in Big Bend. First impression was that it was a cute, clean, cozy establishment. It was 8:40am and we were the only ones in the place. We saw that they served breakfast until 9:00am, and so we were happy we'd be able to order some breakfast. The first person who greeted us was very nice, but the second girl seemed very put off that I was ordering waffles. She said they only served breakfast until 9, and we reminded her that it was 8:40. She reluctantly walked to the waffle pan. So, I was a little skeptical about what I'd be served. We went to our table each with our 50¢ tips of water. Hubby ordered the Migas. It was AWESOME! The homemade salsa (made, surprisingly by bothered-waffle-woman) was AMAZING!!!!!! My waffles were good...nothing I'd drive to San Saba for specifically, but they were thick and tasty. The butter and syrup were as advertised. BWW served us and was pleasant as we asked if the restaurant had been a bank. The lovely building and the good food left us feeling better than when we first started to order. We'd definitely return next time we visit San Saba. read more

Stopped in to have lunch and work for a bit. The vibe was a bit unwelcoming from the start. When I approached the counter the person taking the order said, "Yes ma'am." No other greeting. I ordered the jalapeño pimento on corn bread. When I received the order, I was a bit confused because I thought the order came on actual corn muffin bread. Ok, no big deal. So, I went back to the counter for clarification on the order and the woman delivering the orders to the table has such a nasty glare on her face. I asked her, and she showed me the loaf of cornbread, but she didn't seem happy that I was coming back to the counter. Even the patrons dining in were glaring. Are black patrons not a regular here? I ended up returning the food and leaving. It felt too uncomfortable. read more

We came here after a deckhouse wine tasting as we needed some ground in our stomach. It did hit the spot. They even have a gluten free version. I had the Fruity Chicken Salad gluten-free sandwich. It was delicious but you had to search for the fruit. I think it's ultimately had one, tops two grapes as fruit. The pineapple as advertised was missing. San Saba is the Pecan Capitol of the World. San Saba, TX is revamping its image and becoming a day-destination place in the Texas Hill Country. Oliver and Co. is one of those businesses that is helping revitalize the downtown area of San Saba. Located in the middle of downtown on the first floor of the Dofflemyer Hotel, Oliver and Co. is housed in an old revitalized bank complete with a heavy steel door that used to be the bank vault. No need to break the door down now as it is simply a storage pantry. The original stone walls, gorgeous wood floors and Mason jar lighting add to the ambiance of the restaurant. All of the food we have had has been good. They have breakfast, lunch, coffee (both regular and foo-foo) and desserts. I had their Jalapeño Pimento Cheese Sandwich. It is a must if you are a pimento cheese fan. We also had their iced pecan latte which was a little on the sweet side but still very good. My son and daughter both had a panini. I got the last bite of her panini and thought it was very good. All in all, this is a great place to grab lunch when you are visiting the area. Definitely worth the trip. read more

This sandwich/soup/salad shop is in a great location- probably the best in town. A former bank, they repurposed the safe as their pantry & the decor aligns with the towns over all quaint TX hometown feel. The Italian panini was pretty good. The turkey panini was - meh... something a little off about it. The thinly sliced turkey, seemed to be a day past use by date (although my husband had no issue eating it). Brewed ice tea was refreshing. In hindsight, I should've tried the quiche of the day. It looked fantastic. I'd give the place another try. But wouldn't be honest if I gave more than 3 stars for this first visit. Those stars are attributed to the shops quirky/fun/historical feel as well as the friendly staff. read more

This is a very nice little restaurant/coffee shop right on the main road in San Saba. As you walk in the door there is a little area with local pecans, jams, and other things for sale. As you go towards the back you find nice tables and the restaurant area. The staff was really nice both times we went in. They greeted us warmly and politely answered any questions. Staff and appearance of the store would probably be 5 stars. We ordered an iced mocha with a milk alternative and our friends ordered a drink and a bowl of oatmeal. Our drink was almost $6. Also, it didn't taste very good to the point where we didn't finish it. Our friends said that there oatmeal was really bland, and after trying it I agreed. The next morning we went back and got another drink, and it also was very expensive and not very good either. They do have free wifi which is nice bc our phones didn't work very well. We were very appreciative of this. I hate giving a nice little establishment in a little town 2 stars, but they are very pricy and we didn't enjoy anything that we ordered. You should give it a try though. Maybe your tastes are better than ours. Always support small local businesses, but we will probably not be back the next time we are in San Saba. read more

What a cute cafe and gift shop. It's full of pecans! We stopped for lunch after a week in Fredericksburg. I had the jalapeño pimento cheese sandwich with pecan pieces. My mom had a sandwich called the sprout. Both were half sandwiches that came with half salads. We also bought lots of pecan gifts!! Everything was delicious! read more

I really do like this place but I fear the quality has gone down somewhat. For the past 2 years, my husband and I stop in once a month for lunch on our drive to Fredericksburg. I have always ordered the same thing: sprouts sandwich. For me, the star of the show has always been the wheat berry bread. The last 2-3 times I've ordered it, however, the bread has felt stale. The portion of turkey is measly and today, they had no avocado. I asked for extra pickle and I didn't get it. I certainly hope management addresses these issues as I would hate to ban this place because it's so charming. read more

The restaurant is very nice but the food was ok. I had the fruited chicken salad sandwich & it comes on a croissant with chips. The salad includes grapes and big pineapple chunks. It's a big sandwich but unfortunately I didn't like it. It had a weird after-taste and the texture was weird and very "wet". I especially didn't like the coldness of the croissant and it was dry. I also had a cinnamon roll with no pecans. Nothing to write home about. A friend ordered the ham panini and she stated she should have ordered a smoothie. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good. These folks have paid a lot of attention to detail. If you want coffee on a road trip, you owe it to yourself to stop in here. It's a must stop if you're a coffee snob and travelling thru San Saba. (strong words coming from a Goldthwaite alumnus) The service was great and the coffee shop has a rustic, modern, and historic charm. Leaving the old vault door open is a nice touch. Feels like a museum almost.The red eye coffee I had was strong and very smooth...not bitter like Starbucks. Even the textured beverage cup it was served in was cool.The quiche was simply the best quiche I've had anywhere or that I've made myself. Furthermore, the music wasn't so loud to prevent conversation like at the commercial shops in the city. So much better than a Starbucks. The atmosphere was great and this will be a regular business meeting place for me when in the area. Great location being across from Harry's as well. Great job, guys! Oh, my gosh! This is a great find, from coffee to food to the local friendliness. We stopped here on a road trip via Waco and on our way to AZ. The space is refurbished from an old bank, I believe. LOVED IT. The coffee and similar items had many options! The steel cut oats were made from Bob's Red Mill and slow cooked... DELICIOUS. Jen's menu offered many options from sandwiches to salads and homemade bakery items. Jen (former math teacher) was friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable about local history (love that) and things to do. San Saba's downtown is being revitalized and worth the stop for sure! Oliver & Co. includes 6 boutique hotel rooms on the top floor, so I guess we need to stay on our next trip. The shop includes a little store full of treats and featuring their world famous pecans.
