The owner checks on his guests personally, is full of jokes, and makes sure everyone is having a good time. First the bad - the separation of the smoking and non-smoking areas was as effective as a chain link fence deterring mosquitoes. Now the good, very good news - the meal was great. The salad was as green as it comes. The steamed veggies were excellent, then the steak. My filet, ordered rare as it should be was magnificent! This is the second time my wife and I have eaten here. We always have been inpressed with the quality of the food and service we get. This time; however, we were not as hungry so we ordered appetizers and two side salads. Our salads consisted of about a cup.of lettuce, one thin slice of tomato cut in half, and one thin slice of onion cut in strips. The salads tasted good, but we were shocked when the bill came and we discovered we were charged $7.50 each for our side salads. We talked to the owner and he stated that the cost he had to pay for the ingredients and the staff justified the ludicrous price we were charged. Waited 2 HOURS for a burger & when I politely pulled the owner aside & told him, he took me to the back to show me their small grill, as if this was some sort of excuse as to why my burger was at 2 HOURS and guilty me into feeling bad for saying something. Not one sorry or anything. Burger came out shortly after and I ate it bc I ordered it at 9:00 and at 11:15 when I ate it/was starving, there was nothing else open to eat in San Saba. Then when I kindly asked my waitress for my tab for my beers, I asked her to take the burger off my tab (which I have never done), the owner refused b/c I ate the burger. The cook came out and apologized and the waitress was sweet, but the owner was an ass. Didn't care about paying for the burger but...2 hours w/o any sort of apology, come on. read more

We ate at Diggs last night since we had last eaten their several years ago. On that night years ago, my wife had one of the best steaks ever. After having read more recent reviews slamming the service, we wondered what had changed. Last night, the service was excellent and the staff was very friendly. Fortunately, It was as we remembered it. My wife had the filet which she described as yummy. I had the sirloin which was above average. The side salad was very good. read more

We came to San Saba for a girls weekend and decided to have dinner and drinks at Diggs. We ended up staying for 7 hours! The service was amazing - the wait staff were so prompt and friendly, and the owner kept coming over to make sure everything was good, and we had the best night! The chicken fried steak was huge and delicious, and the drinks were great. After eating, we went to the outside area to play pool, dance, and say hi to the bar rooster (yes, a live rooster that just hangs out)! The laid back atmosphere, the welcoming staff and regulars, and the dance area made us never want to leave. Definitely coming back next time! read more

Nice little quaint country restaurant and bar. Staff was very friendly. Other than my burger coming out almost raw (I liked my cooked just a tab bit more) and my friends pricey steak coming out a little bland, everything was great! Awesome sweet potato fries and amazing burgers! Fried pickles are on the list for one of my favorite places to get them, beer was ice cold and they did a great job at keeping our drinks filled up. There were a lot of flies flying around which was a little annoying and pretty gross but all in all, I'd go back for another burger! read more

Please read other reviews to get a perspective on some reviewers negative reviews that may not be very applicable. Everyone from walking in to walking out were very friendly. We ordered everything from across the menu and everything was good. We got there after hours on the road to realize were were early for dinner so we hung out while they got everything fired up and ready and enjoyed the time, the appetizers that could be prepared early and enjoyed the time. I'd recommend Digg's to anyone, including folks that have never been as we were. It's comfortable and they're accommodating. Overall, a great, comfortable and relaxing time. read more

One of the best steakhouses and dancehalls you can find in central Texas. The food is always fantastic and the drinks are always good. The entire staff is friendly and at your beckon call to make sure you leave with a smile. Very disappointed in the way we were treated tonight "Can you leave so someone else can sit at this table?" Not once, but 3 times by 2 different people. My response (twice), "All I need is the check." Man in red shirt says at the bar next to a member of our party, "I don't do rude." Rude? Really???? Do not go here hungry because you could be waiting a while for your food. We were seated right away once I caught someone's attention. Once we order the waitress says oh it could be an hour and half before you get your food. Well what do you do when you're in a small town, go to Sonic (actually would've been a smart choice). A local recommended the place so we waited. By the time we get our salads the couple at the next table who arrived when we did, apparently decided it wasn't worth the wait and left. The wait staff was great and apologetic, the problem was the size of their grill. Seriously, you claim to be a steakhouse and you have a tiny grill. We get our food and my friend says his steak is over cooked, after an hour and a half you certainly aren't going to send it back. An expensive steak should be fabulous and not given to your dog because you couldn't eat it. My grilled chicken sandwich was good. read more
