After some research, I found Ruby and Clover on the internet and booked an appointment with a stylist. I didn't want anything fancy, just a good old fashioned wash and a cut. I did most of it online which was rather easy. My mom tagged along since she's on a non committal world tour of every salon in a 20 mile radius. She's fussy and wants stuff to be more old school where they wait on you instead of cut your hair and shove you out the back door after you pay. So, when I say she liked it here as well, that's kind of a big deal! We got to the salon and it looks like an old house from the road. Walking in, the place is decorated so nicely and they have a little boutique in the front of the salon. They have the usual hair products, but they also have local Rochester items such as hand soap, candles, gifts, wigs and a bunch of other cool stuff for sale as well. I like that the salon supports the local community! While my wash and cut wasn't cheap ($49 plus tip) I really enjoyed my experience here. Alexis was my stylist and did a good job of taking care of me. I loved it so much that I made a second appointment to get a leave in conditioner treatment a week later! My mom also booked a quick haircut with her as well and we both had a really good time. Overall it was a wonderful experience and while it's at the top of my price range, I'd gladly come back here again.

Products used, just wow. This is the first time I've allowed another person to take a pair of scissors to my hair in literally 20 years besides a teeny tiny trim. I used to have dark, shiny, luscious thick dark hair that I got compliments on everywhere I went. Then I went to a neighboring salon and asked for Carmel ombré highlights and it became a longish cinged orangish hot mess and all uneven. I had been considering a short cut for about a year having little kids and being busy, but I didn't trust anyone to cut it, and because my hair is very thick, it just looks weird. I could never get some Tswift or Jennifer Aniston looking piecey pretty bob. My stylist today at Stephen James Aveda changed that for me and gave me an awesome haircut!! Never have I had compliments on my hair so much short as I have long. My husband is in love with it. She knew exactly what I was asking and I knew I could trust her when she fixed my bad ombré and it looked perfect. I wanted it a lot lighter than if turned out, but it's so much better that I can't complain. I highly recommend this place. I didn't have to sit and tell my life story. I got to relax. The smell is amazing in there and its quiet and relaxing and sooo clean. The coffee was really good and everyone is so nice. They got me right in as a walk in too, no wait really. The stylist looked very young, not someone you'd picture as a seasoned experienced stylist, but wow, she proved me so wrong. Everyone was kind to my 7 month old baby who sat in his stroller the whole time. The shampoo bowl wasn't soo dang uncomfortable that I would dread it either. This is my new salon for good now. I tried to get an appointment next door at La Marquise, but I wasn't feeling the vibe there. They really weren't happy to have my business like Aveda. I'm going to try and head over there again tomorrow to get the products she used... I really had no idea how awesome Aveda was until now.
