South Side Storage was referred to us as a local owned and close location with secure grounds and climate controlled units. PERFECT! They had an area where you could store vehicles, and non-climate controlled units that offered dock (elevated) as well as drive up bays. The staff (family owned and operated) were pleasant, helpful and friendly. They showed me a VERY clean unit in a nearly new building to rent. If you are looking for storage needs in Mebane Don't sign a lease without at least checking with them!!!

I payed to rent a unit at 144 dollars. The facility is not manned, when I get there the unit I am assigned was totally full of the items for the storage facility to include extra garage doors. I then called and they explained that they had a move out that day and I could transfer there. I then went to that unit and the lock was broke I called back that day and they told me it will be fixed in 48 hours and I will get a call back. I waited till Monday did not get a call so I called back. I was told that it did not appear they got to it and I should call back Tuesday. On Tuesday I called and spoke to a very nice female. She said she reviewed the account and it showed I called but it did not have notes to why. She said she saw a transfer pending but was unsure why. She said she would add the notes but it can take 48 hours but she hope it would be sooner. I then asked if I can have a full refund and they said I will be prorated till the 7th because I held the unit. I explained they held it from me because the storage was full of there things. The man Raheem or Rakeem I was sent to states I could not get a full refund. I told them to keep the money because I will be removing all of there items out of the storage I paid for. He stated I could not do that. I then told him then transfer me to a manager. He stated it appeared he did not have one available. I told him I will wait. He then came back and stated he processed a full refund and I no longer have access to the facility because I have been removed from there systems. Then hung up. He was very rude.

Based on my experience, I would not recommend this location. Their approach to customer service and retention feels dismissive and unprofessional. Rates seem to increase arbitrarily, and there is no willingness to work with customers, even when the facility is not at full occupancy. It's frustrating to see a business risk losing a long‑term customer over a small amount, especially when maintaining relationships should be a priority. The staff has consistently come across as rude and unhelpful. While the building is climate‑controlled, it's far from high‑end. The carts are broken, the units are dark with no lighting, and overall, the facility lacks attention to customer experience. In short, the service and management have made this a disappointing place to store my belongings. After making a complaint to the district manager, it is evident that the rates are more important that customers and I will be removing my items asap. Seems like such a small thing to lose a customer over but in the end, it is all about perception and mine is that we are not valued.
