Reason being is that this pub / restaurant serves pretty much the most tasty burgers I have ever enjoyed and I've had burgers all over the world. The pub is home to the concession Meathammer. They first became famous for their burgers in Glasgow and sometime afterward opened up within the Old Inn. There are all kinds of wonderful creations to enjoy from simple classic plain burgers, to outlandish combinations that you wouldn't imagine taste good together, but are delicious. All burgers are also served with triple cooked chips (fries) which are equally amazing. You can possibly understand now why I hesitated to post this review, as I may find this absolute gem of a place suddenly becomes busier. By the way, you come here for the food, don't expect luxurious surroundings. This is a traditional Scottish pub in every sense of the word - and all the better for it in my opinion. It is located directly opposite Dunfermline Abbey, the burial place of King Robert the Bruce. If you are ever in this part of Scotland and are a fan of burgers, you simply must visit.

There was also food on (served 7-9) which included Sirloin steak and chips (Tuesday) for just £4, and curry on Wednesday for just £3.50! Coincidentally, King Robert led a successful and brutal battle against a much larger English army exactly 700 years ago last month. As an Englishman myself, thankfully I'm now made very welcome in the pub that bears his name. The aspect of this pub I find most attractive is the fact that it is an independently owned micro brewery. They have an excellent selection of their own de Brus beers, lagers & ciders. In addition there is a large offering of excellent vodkas, gins, whiskeys & wine etc. All in all, this is a classy establishment offering something quite different in pleasant surroundings. If you see me at the bar, I'll have a Nut Brown Ale, thanks!

We were here for dinner but there were no places in the dining areas so took a table by the window which has an unimpressive vista onto the back of neighbouring offices and a car park. As the night drew in though the light from the window disappeared and the actual venue lighting is pretty poor so when the food does arrive it's pretty difficult to see anything! Getting food was quite problematic, with the waiting staff being pretty slow but eventually when it was ordered you could tell the chef knew what they were doing. The food quality was very good and the portion sizes were just about right. We were here on a Friday evening and by the time our mains were arriving the noise levels in the bar area was getting quite restrictive to being able to speak to the person next to you. I feel like this is highly critical review and maybe on a quiet afternoon when its not too busy it may be a great experience but on this particular evening it just didn't do it for me.

The one at The Watering Hole is surprisingly spacious and had a good mix of people of all ages & families. I enjoyed a refreshing, cool pear cider and my nephew, a soft drink. It was a very pleasant way to pass an hour or so. Planning to make the most of whatever sunshine we can enjoy for the remainder of the summer and will return.

It was pretty quiet for a Saturday night when I visited, but the music was thrashing nonetheless. The seating arrangement is a bit odd (erm was that not meant to be the dancefloor), but it looks like this could be a very fun place once it starts to pull in the punters. With free entry and a 2am licence its a no brainer if you need more hard liquor after midnight.

They are proud of their namesake, which centres on the story of the black greyhound of Linlithgow, whose master was imprisoned on an island in the middle of the nearby Loch and sentenced to starve to death. Everyday the greyhound swam out to her master with food and ended up saving his life. The locals call themselves 'Black Bitches' after the dogs symbolic loyalty. A great local, if quiet, tavern serving a range of real ales. It also has a nice beer garden. Apparently there is a folk music night every third Sunday of the month too.

A few years back my cronies and I would come out in Linlithgow quite a bit as we begun to look for a more serene nightlife experience. The Bitch wasn't always on our radar, but on the occasions we did come in it was perfectly adequate.
