We couldn't have picked a better day to visit the area, the temperature was perfect with low humidity and no bugs - you must allow yourself plenty of time to soak in the peaceful surroundings and get out of your vehicle to get up close to the wonders of this garden. Besides the beautiful grounds and water structures there are plenty of surprises you'll discover along the way we unfortunately didn't see any alligators or deer today but there were an abundance of birds, a few turtles basking in the sun and lots of squirrels scurrying through the grounds and giant oak trees. This is a beautiful place and just one of the wonders you'll find while exploring Louisiana I've lived in Louisiana for almost half my life and I'm still amazed at the beauty this state has to offer this is just one of the many places that's preserved and protected for generations to enjoy and appreciate...

Our guide, Dionne, is SO knowledgable and relatable. She shared honest stories about the people who built and lived in the beautiful house. Stories that included not only the wealthy owners, but the enslaved who made their wealth possible and lives comfortable. The presentation of the true history of Louisiana and our United States is so very important. Invest an hour or two in this lesson. You won't be sorry.

I need to go…read more Anyway, I did not take a tour of Conrad Rice Mill or anything like that, I just love their Konriko brand products and the customer service that comes with them. Specifically, their All-Purpose Jalapeno Seasoning. It is a really good seasoning and not too salty, but nice and jalapeno-y. I typically buy it from Amazon in a three pack. On my most recent delivery one of the cans was damaged. The bottom had separated from the can itself. Amazon put me in touch with Konriko (Conrad Rice). I sent an e-mail requesting a replacement can, just one. They got back to me within a day. Requested my name and address. I responded with the info, and within a few days a package arrived in the mail. They re-sent the entire 3-pack. It wasn't from Amazon it came from the Conrad Rice Mill Store in New Iberia. Conrad is rad!

This was not your typical narrated scripted tour (yawn)…read more To say it was nothing short of amazing is an understatement. Our guide took us on a full blown adventure! Creeping through tranquil inlets & speeding down a maze of channels. We explored crawfish nets (I snatched one out of the trap for further inspection), we took a plethora of breath taking photos (now posted on Facebook), braced ourselves as we raced through dense thick floating vegetation yet sailed right through like it wasn't there (our guide "Albert" reveled in the expected surprised looks on our faces). He sped us in circles to agitate the carp just below the surface causing them to leap out of the water for our entertainment. We got a brief glimpse of a gator just before he ducked down into the water. In addition to this memorable experience the guide was extremely knowledgeable regarding to the entire ecosystem. This is a must do experience if you are a visitor to Louisiana or even a local (my fiancé booked the tour whom is a local). Have fun!!

I stopped here wanting to get an actual tour of the old rice mill but didn't see any signs and this wasn't offered so I let it go - there are some cool pieces here and we actually purchased a "pot holder" with a local theme. We decided to book and drive…read moreourselves there since it was a bit more expensive for us to drive than pay for three people to go from their office in downtown. They told us to be there 15 minutes before our tour start time and we were there 20 minutes before, but the tour guide was 10 minutes late past the start of the tour itself. We thought we were in the wrong place and tried to get in contact with the tour agency. Got voicemail the first time and it was this random woman's number, but then called the same number a minute later and a guy told us the tour operator was on his way and then needed to pick up the supplies. It seems that they should have communicated that earlier and they should have a better system in place. The launch from the boat area was into a busy area right under the freeway and our guide basically was like hangout there and wait for me. That foreshadowed the rest of the tour for us, he basically was distant from us most of the tour, either way in front or way behind and we were a total tour of four people. There was no discussion about what we would see beyond him showing us alligators. At one point we were in the deeper section and a massive log was in the way, he went over and faced the opposite direction while the four of us struggled to get our kayaks over the log. He told us to go around and we got stuck because it was more elevated on the side and just sat on his phone the entire time while we helped each other. I get we were a group coming together, but it felt like he just told us which way to go, but didn't do any real guiding. We even helped him load and unload the supplies from the kayak. I think this tour company needs to be better organized and train their guides on what they should do to become tour guides.
