This was truly such a wonderful experience. I stayed in the Victorian and it was beautiful. So spacious and beautifully decorated! The staff were so kind too! Parking is easy. They provide plenty of recommendations for restaurants / activities as well. I took one of their recommendations and they didn't disappoint. When I arrived it had been down-pouring for hours and the staff were able to handle it perfectly. Breakfast is a sit down experience with all other lodgers and I had an incredible time. We were in Key West on a cruise on Thursday afternoon when I got a text from the B&B we were planning to stay in. A water pipe broke and they had to cancel our reservation. The owner recommended this place. They had one suite available for our Sunday to Sunday stay and we took it. This suite has a second bedroom that we didn't need, but our bedroom is spacious, has a window mounted AC and the bathroom has a shower, not a tub. The bed is comfortable. There is no TV in this room, but we didn't miss it. Donnell is a gracious host as is her staff. Breakfasts are delicious and filling. There is adequate free parking. There are no door locks but there are surface bolts and the house is locked at night. There is no foot traffic or street parking and the site is quiet and secure. This is a charming place that we hope we can return to. read more

What a cool bed and breakfast. It was a previous plantation. It is located close to Lafayette (which made it convenient to go in and out of). We stayed in the Victorian room. This one wasn't in the plantation building but it was still pretty interesting. There was a nice courtyard that was between this room and the plantation house. The Victorian House had a sofa, a canopy bed, a pretty big closet, and a decent shower. The bathroom got cold easily so it had a switch just to heat up the room. Breakfast was strictly at 830am (it kind of sucked it wasn't eat when you want to). It was nice to see the other hotel goers there, however. The attendant who handed us the key to the hotel room also helped serve breakfast for us in the morning. They also had coffee available in to go cups. read more

We stayed here for 3 nights while visiting Lafayette. I wanted to stay in a historical home and this was pretty historical. There were several pros and cons though and I personally would not stay here again. First the pros. Breakfast was fantastic. We left too early to get breakfast the 3rd morning, but the 2 mornings we ate there it was amazing. The first day was a French toast biscuit with sausage and an egg. They had fresh preserves and orange juice out, as well as all the local accompaniments like cane syrup and Tabasco. The 2nd day they made shrimp and grits and a side of fruit with a biscuit. That was phenomenal! The rooms were gorgeous and like stepping back in time. The house was very quiet. We stayed on the 2nd floor in the Voorhies room. The balcony with the swing was neat too. Cons. These rooms had no air conditioning, and if it did it wasn't on and we were miserable. We could not sleep. I had to open the balcony doors to get air.... But then the mosquitos!!! It was awful. Water pressure in the shower is non existent. I could not wash my hair here. We highly dislike eating in a group table/ family sitting for breakfast. I ended up catching a cold and I don't know if it was because there was no airflow in the house, cramped at the breakfast table or what. Also, there are no locks on the doors! So when you leave for the day anyone could go into your room. I didn't like that at all. read more

Born and raised in Lafayette, I was not aware this place was there. My grandparents lived on Sterling and still I did not know this was there. My sister found this place and suggested it and it was quite comfortable. We were in town for a couple days to take care of family matters. I enjoy the history surrounding the property as well as the history of Lafayette. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was great and it was good to meet people from around the world. I would recommend Mouton's Plantation and will plan to stay next time I'm in town with the dogs, because they will love it also. read more

We were seeking refuge from torrential rain on I-10 and decided to stop in Lafayette for the night. I made a last minute reservation at the Mouton Plantation Bed and Breakfast where John greeted us at the door. We checked into the lovely Voorheis room on the second floor of the main house. We were too late for social hour but were serenaded by the lovey live music we heard from our room. Very talented musician! Since we had to get on the road again this morning before the 8:30am breakfast service, we missed the shrimp and grits. The table was already started and looked lovely. Fortunately we were able to get coffee for the road. This historic home in the center of Lafayette is definitely worth a stop! read more

We stayed here for 2 nights, and booked Victoria room. When i trying to make the reservation, i couldn't find the square footage of the room, so i called the office to check. But it's Sunday, no one pick up the phone. So i hang up. Surprisingly, few minutes later i received a call back, and base on availability, he recommended Victoria room. I'm happy when the door opened, it's not in the main house, but it's on the ground level with a nice sized room, a lot of space and unique bed frame, the Mattress is very comfortable. We had free breakfast included in the room rate, 1st day was biscuit & gravy, freshly made. It looks delicious, but I'm reluctant to eat as I'm trying to control my carb intake. So the servant kindly cooked me one fried egg and one breakfast sausage patties. I certainly feel i can eat more, but i don't want to both him again. The host John is very nice, on our day of arrival, he took time to play several music instruments for us, and he also had a very nice voice. The 2nd day, he also made us his favorite boudin, it's actually taste better than the restaurants! We had a lovely time staying here. read more

I stayed here for a few nights while visiting my daughter, the mansion and grounds were so lovely and all the staff who greeted/assisted me were so hospitable. Just to take in the beautiful decor combined with the history of this amazing place was such a delight! The bed was comfy and each morning looked forward to a beautiful table setting with breakfast that always included some kind of cultural touch to it including homemade fig and plum reserves which I think, came from the trees on the property. Hot coffee available at the desk and being close to historic downtown Lafayette was an added plus! read more

Stayed here with 2 granddaughters to learn more about Cajun history. It was amazing to stay in a property that is over 200 years old! The manager, Donell, gave us a tour of the main house where she pointed out original furniture pieces and architectural features. Our room was on the 2nd floor of the original Carriage House. Stayed here with my mom as a getaway just for an evening. Really I just wanted to escape from the kids for a day and didn't want to drive too far. This bed and breakfast looked like an interesting place to lay our heads. Booking is easy, I was able to change my dates without an issue. The room was adequate but was obviously wasn't refurbished by a professional (tile not done correctly and in some areas completely unfinished). We were in a carriage house so I'm not sure if the main home was done by someone else. The highlight was breakfast. We had pain purdue (French toast) made with biscuit dough and oh my gosh was it heavenly. This is the breakfast included in your stay. It came with a fried egg, sausage, fruit, coffee and juice. Considering it was a room plus this breakfast for 2 people for under $100 you really get your money's worth. My main complaint was the guests above us. There is not enough insulation in 200 year old carriage homes for people above you to be up and about literally all night long. What could have been a relaxing stay turned out to be completely exhausting. That being said, it was nice to be somewhere other than a chain hotel! read more

My husband chose this property based on reviews from Airbnb. Upon arrival, the overall upkeep of the property left a lot to be desired: the landscaping needed attention, the trimwork needed painting, and our assigned room was "shabby chic" - with the attention being more focused on shabby. Our room had a roach/waterbug in the bathroom, and I was awakened by water dripping in my face from a leak in the ceiling. We discovered that it was from the shower in the unit above us. The owner did respond by stating that he would seek to give us a full refund. We will be waiting. read more

It's like going back in time....to when there was no COVID 19. We stayed 3 nights. We were beyond alarmed when we realized that no one at all wore masks. Just us. Staff didn't. Guests didn't. At breakfast in the morning, the only seating is at a communal table. Everyone seats next to each other, no distancing. We came home last week and now have headaches and dry coughing and have to go get COVID tests. Other: Roach in the room. Stained pillow. Towels very very worn and thin and grey from use. Very weak door lock. Had to ask for room service. read more

We were pleased to spend 5 nights at this Bed & Breakfast. The staff were very friendly and the accommodations were commensurate with the age of the main house. The Breakfasts were good and the recommendations for local Cajun food restaurants were spot on. We thoroughly enjoyed John playing Cajun and Creole music during happy hour. Donelle was kind enough to give us a tour of the house, including historic facts and fun stories about its history. She even was kind enough to ship my slippers to my home after I left them under the bed. From my stay at Mouton Plantation, I can tell you that nothing beats their homegrown hospitality. We stayed for three days and had a total six rooms for our family. All three days were amazing - we looked forward to breakfast each morning and every morning out did the previous. The grounds were beautiful and the rooms were comfortable and beautiful while still showing you what might have been there in the 1800s. I loved being immersed in the beauty of this plantation. Our Lafayette experience was complete because of our stay at Mouton Plantation. My husband & I stayed in the spacious Cypress Suite. The bed was very comfortable; the suite exceeding clean. The grounds were lovely. Ravi the owner was generous with his time and knowledgeable of the area, along with the other hostesses. And the breakfasts were delicious. I loved sitting as a group; most of the guests were from different parts of Europe and it was a hoot getting to know them! My only small dissatisfaction was the 8:30 breakfast time; everyone has their own thoughts concerning but mine is I'm on vacation! & would have preferred a 9-9:30 time. BEWARE: I booked a reservation with this place a year ago through Booking.com. I cancelled the reservation the day after I made it. Thank goodness I kept ALL documentation because the owner at Mouton Plantation refused to refund the money back to my card. I finally contacted Booking.com. They have tried to get the owner to provide the refund to no avail. Finally, I have received confirmation that Booking.com will provide the refund because the owner refuses to. ATTENTION! BEWARE! We booked the MOUTON ROOM. It is located on third floor. They have to give you the entire floor which is the Eiffel Room also The Eiffel is the only one with bathroom. Mouton Room bed falls out of tracts when u get on it. No TV or bathroom and only had window units. The Eiffel had a tub in a small room. No shower. If u are over 5'5' you can't stand in bathroom. ALSO NO LOCKS ON BEDROOM DOORS. Quite frankly won't be going back. Poor excuse for B&B. Due to weather they put my son on second floor rather than in slave quarter room. Once he had unpacked, the lady comes and tells him he has to go stay out back where it is flooded due to owners persistent nature though no guest stayed in that room read more

It is just okay. Nothing special. Save your money. This place isn't what it looks like as in the pictures. Its run down. Your staying in an old plantation right? Should have decor from the period. A nice history lesson would have been great! Gardens were unkept, main house was locked up after 6pm so no where except your room to hang out! All historic places we've stayed have authentic free open spaces to enjoy.... Not here. We arrived in time for happy hour and nothing was set up. No happy hour...bummer. The beds in our rooms were Lumpy OLD beds(Cypress Room) with smelly mildew rooms. Rickety Claw foot tub & not enough hot water to fill the tub. Oh, and the shower was slippery, all the curtain rings were wobbly and loose. Plumbing fixture was tilted/broken. Our room had two beds and both comforters with brown stains on top in plain view. GROSS. If you have any needs they won't be met. I will say the morning cook is very nice as well as the afternoon check-in person but they no authority to assist if need be. So asking for some hit water was never addressed.... read more

We love historic homes and actually restore old homes. We were so sad to see how decrepit this place was. The room was clean, bed was comfortable. Otherwise, there were so many issues that seemed to indicate lack of money or they just don't care. For example, our bathroom had 4 lights over the sink, but only 1 had a light bulb. The tub valves were loose and hard to turn off and on, toilet did not flush properly and ran for 10 minutes each time it was flushed. We stayed in the Empire Suite. The grounds were in sad disrepair. Lots of plants in pots that look like they've been sitting a long time., waiting to be planted. Once again, outside lights were missing bulbs. It was quiet, the hostess who greeted us was very friendly, but no afternoon cocktail was offered even though it was on their check in info. So much potential! But lots of neglect. read more

***UPDATE- spoke with the owner this morning Ravi. Very rude and condescending. Refused to refund. He began the conversation saying he was the owner. As soon as a refund was discussed, he relayed that he only the manager!! He also said that it wasn't the the fact that I had cancelled, he is refusing to refund due to the fact I was upset with him for running my company cc For almost $600. This place is horrible and the owner Ravi has horrible customer service skills. Iv talked with my bank and have gotten the charges reversed. And I was assured there will be an investigation on their end. BUYER BEWARE***** my wife tried to book a room for us and our kids. She reached out 3 different times to reserve a room. Finally around 10-11am she got some what of a "reservation" after the fourth call. We did not receive any confirmation email or any type of deposit taken from our banking account. We planned on checking in Friday but due to the storms and massive flooding in Houston and Beaumont we were unable to make the trip to Lafayette, I-10 bridge shut down due to a barge hitting it. I reached out to the office and let them know we would not be able to make it and to cancel our reservation. I asked about a cancellation fee, which I was told there was going to be (nothing about a cancellation fee anywhere on the website). I understood. The gentleman I spoke with on the phone said he did not know the amount, that he would have a manager reach out to me and let me know. At this point, not a cent was taken from my bank account. I told him "DO NOT RUN MY CARD UNTIL I SPEAK WITH A MANAGER THE NEXT DAY". Within the hour of cancelling, they ran my card for nearly $600!! The room was listed for only $90 a nite! We made the reservation for a two nite stay!! I will be reversing the charge thru my bank and will gladly pay what ever fee thru my bank to get that charge reversed. I went to meet a friend at the Mouton Plantation before starting our weekend. We were pleased to be treated as a guest. We didn't stay overnight, but were welcomed like house guests. The breakfast was amazing with a spread suited for both adults and kids. Water, Juice, Coffee, shrimp and grits, pancakes, biscuits, fig preserves, etc. All while seated amongst other house guests from around the globe. I had no idea about this gem hidden near downtown Lafayette. I'm glad that I stumbled upon it and realize that my hometown and culture has a lot offer. We were so looking forward to staying here, however, we were informed a few hours before check in that our room was not available. We were offered no explanation or apology but they did offer us another room in another bed and breakfast several miles away. As we were already on the road from Austin TX, we accepted, but the replacement accommodations were not suitable and we needed to leave. When I contacted the owner Ravi about this the next day he agreed to give us a refund but still offered no explanation or apology and was extremely rude over the phone. We had a birthday party at this venue. My wife and I and several guests stayed at the venue one night and had a crawfish boil the next day. Overall the experience was great and the staff was very helpful. Unfortunately, the owner Ravi asked us to move our cars to a back lot where some of the tree branches (we did not notice at the time) were rotted. There was wind that day and a large branch fell and caused severe damage to both of our vehicles. The owner promised he would report the incident to his insurance and stay in touch. He completely failed to follow up on this promise and has dodged our emails and calls ever since. We understand things happen, but his total lack of follow through, communication or any real concern regarding this situation has completely tainted our view of this business and the owner's integrity. It's a great venue, just be aware if anything goes wrong the owner will be unlikely to offer much help or concern. read more

We stayed for the first time this past weekend and we will never stay anywhere else in Lafayette again. Our daughters go to college in Lafayette and we live in New Orleans. We had previously stayed in chain hotels when visiting and it was fine but we came across this little gem and decided to give it a try. The place is so charming that you get an experience, not just a place to stay. The staff is so warm and friendly and you truly feel like a guest in their home, not a customer.
