It was weeks of trying to avoid doing contractual work, add fees, calling me names, hanging up the phone on me before the first crew finally walked off of the job in front of the company owner. No apology provided to me, but after significant negotiation they did agree to hire a subcontractor to fix their work. Unfortunately this meant that they sanded their texture work and did not seal the ductwork first and refused to put up plastic in the doorway. I had to put up plastic and then spent 30 hours cleaning my home once I figured out what the air quality issue was. I have a disability and am prone to respiratory infections which is what I was diagnosed with following this event. The new crew told me that the soffit the previous crew built was too crooked to fix but I wouldn't notice it. They decided that they completed the project and the problem was the ductwork underneath the soffit. They want thousands more to replace my ductwork and build a new soffit. I cannot find their electrical license online although they did electrical work. The light fixture they installed will not turn off and they will not hire an electrician to fix their work. This was supposed to be a home modification project to help my disabled son--a fact that they have had no regard for throughout the project.

The truth is you ran out of money and couldn't do the work properly. Every area your workers entered was damaged. I have the photos and video to prove it. Demanding payment immediately, so we paid but there are NOT 2 coats of paint. You damaged our wood floors by demoing without protecting them, then blamed us for the damage. Shall I post the proof of this?? You accused us of mopping and damaging a floor. You damaged one of a kind solid wood doors with tools, smearing SPACKLE to hide the dings your "unequipped" worker made (your adjective not mine). You let the "unequipped" one paint the ceiling without any hallway wall protection letting paint go down the walls. You damaged the downstairs hallway, millwork, and then blamed us for it. Your workers smeared paint down the walls and over doors. Next time show up and supervise your workers. Do not come to a homeowners house at 7am demanding an unannounced walk thru and yelling at them in front of their small children like you did to us because we have to go to work. And stop writing threatening emails, texts demands for payments at 4am. I suggest you take responsibility for the harm you have caused our family by damaging our property. Have always found his work to be excellent, thorough and completed in a timely manner. If the proposed project is not something he does personally, like plumbing, he has competent and licensed people he hires. He gets the required permits for projects and is upfront about where there may be issues that are not readily apparent. Lets not forget after contacting me (barry), Barry sent out Jason the very next day at 10am, i made Jason called Barry in front of me, my wife, my father and a worker at our home that we had to paused service for while Jason came by, Barry answered the phone and said he said he sent Jason to do a estimate. Regardless of internal authorization disputes, the result for our family was and is the same: incomplete and damaged work with no resolution. Jason did receive payment with a receipt from us as he didn't have one on him and we have the bank statement after he kept pressuring us to pay him. If your company name was misused, that is a serious issue that you need to address with Jason & Barry, your worker you are denying, and one you should investigate internally. Two days later I had a detailed bid that included some of the options I had asked them to consider (I asked if a specific modification would work for my layout). I told them I had to wait for a specific event and would get back to them in 4-6 weeks. They checked in a couple of times during that wait but only in a friendly, non-pushing way. By the time I had the funds, I needed some additional clarification about items on the bid. Called them and they came back out and walked through with me answering all of my questions. I put half down to get on their schedule (2 weeks out). They made a confirmation call. Showed up right on time. Were very hard workers for two solid days. I was working from home and checked on the progress. They had scheduled the city inspector for late the afternoon of the second day and they were finished on time for that successful inspection. They explained how to reset the automatic gas shut-off if needed. They did a great job of cleaning up. I had put up tarps but they added some drop clothes and carried away all the debris. There was some dust from the sheetrock they had to remove but not much at all. It was a great experience. We have a lot of our net worth in this house and it feels better to know this 1925 home is bolted to the foundation, has the beams strapped to the posts, has additional hot water tank bracing, and has an automatic gas shut-off that I can reset as needed without having to wait (with potentially thousands of others) for the gas company to turn back on the gas. The other firms recommended approaching from the inside which would require demo-ing into our finished basement walls and likely leave unsightly brackets poking out in different places. Earthquake tech recommended a solution approaching from the outside - taking down siding to place brackets and reinforce the cripple wall, then replacing the siding. We have cedar shake siding and I was concerned there would be a lot of damage, but they seemed experienced with siding work. They consulted with an engineer on the plans, which not all the firms did, and helped give us peace of mind that the planned additions will offer the necessary support as we live on a pretty steep slope. The crew came out as scheduled and were able to do the bulk of the work over the first two days. Some of the finishing work took a little longer due to weather, which was okay as the crew was pretty independent on doing the work while we were gone and only occasionally needed access to the inside of the house. The company even ordered new siding to replace the broken ones and repainted them once the weather dried out some, which we were expecting to have to do ourselves. The house looks great after they were all done, and if we hadn't seen the bracketing inside before the new siding went up, we'd have no idea anything was done. We had no problems getting earthquake coverage added onto our policy. The whole process was very smooth, and the end product is exactly as promised.

We contracted with Weitzer for a kitchen remodel, and everything we learned to look out for when…read moredoing our due diligence ended up being done right. Being located in SE Portland, they have experience in dealing with houses that are over 100 years old (as is ours), and Weitzer's in-house cabinet shop means that they can custom build a solution for each project. From the first day, through the finishing touches, we had a lead carpenter who was here doing most of the tasks himself or with other Weitzer employees when needed, coordinating with and directing subcontractors, and communicating with the project manager who planned the remodel and created the schedule. Communication with my wife and I, and everyone else involved in the project was first rate, and a big factor in a successful, timely remodel. After they took down the plaster on the walls and ceiling and pulled up the floor, the lead carpenter consulted with other experienced Weitzer project people to make sure everyone was in agreement on planning for what to do with the hundred year old framing that they found inside. Our peace of mind at having new wiring, plumbing, and beams, studs and joists to keep everything correctly correctly supported is a, emotionally, a huge component of this job. Based on conversations with their own employees and with subcontractors, Weitzer is a good place to work, and pays their subcontractors promptly - which is apparently not always the case in the construction world. The payoff for the customer is that the employees all seem to enjoy working together for the greater good, and skilled subcontractors are willing to be flexible with the inevitable scheduling hiccups to show up when needed and keep things moving along. Since most tasks cannot be started until a previous step is complete, Weitzer's scheduling is able to be realistic, and can be trusted. There are far more moving parts to this kind of project than I could have ever predicted myself - adjusting floor joists, rerouting wiring to fit a modern lighting plan, using the right kinds of insulation for thermal or acoustic purposes, choosing paint that will stand up to the rigors of kitchen cabinet use, laser measurement for countertops, leveling the ceiling so that crown molding in different parts of the room does not interfere with cabinet doors opening and closing, matching window and door trim to other parts of the house - Weitzer's team coped with it all, and were not fazed by any of the things that could not be known until the old walls and ceiling came down. This kind of job is not cheap - but Weitzer's bid was right in line with other design-build firms that we contacted, and in watching the project as it went along, I developed an appreciation for all the components of the budget, and how they added up to the total cost, and contributed to a successful project.
