The falls are amazing but when you ride right up to the falls and you can see them from water level there's just no describing how awesome and powerful nature is! The lines actually moved really quick especially for the amount of tourist that were there. The boat ride is around 20 minutes. The view of the falls from the American side is really good as well when you're riding by. If you're on the American side you can do the Maid of the Mist boat ride, they both take you to the same spot. American boat rides were blue ponchos while the Canadian side wears red. It was one of our most memorable fishing trips to date!! We had four fishermen on our charter out of Kent, NY. Captain Bob - referred to as "Reel Bob" - also owns a fishing cottage within walking distance to the dock. We were luckily able to rent the cottage for our fishing trip. We were aware of the fact that we were not fishing in optimal weather conditions on this trip. The winds were high and some captains were delaying (or canceling) their charters. Captain Bob gathered weather information, was in constant contact with the other captains, and provided us with up-to-date information. We ultimately decided to fish both days. The lake was very choppy with average waves in the 4 to 6 foot range. We were hitting salmon within a half an hour of arriving at our first destination! Captain Bob knew the best spots for fish out in the lake. He kept us off-shore even though other captains were moving closer to shore. We brought in more fish than any other charter during those two days!! I felt safe and comfortable on the boat... and Captain Bob worked his tail off for us. During an 8-hour fishing trip there are bound to be lulls - that's when your captain's personality is most important. I don't remember the last time we laughed so hard! We have stayed in numerous houses/cottages in this area over the past 5 years or so and NONE of them compared to Captain Bob's cottage!! It was homey, and warm, and spacious, and lovely!! When we arrived Captain Bob had the cottage ready for us. We unlocked the door and stepped into a cathedral ceilinged living room with a sports channel programmed on the TV (one of our Ohio teams)! The ceiling fan was slowly churning up the smell of the lake through a few open windows. I thought, "this is a honeymoon get-away"! There were several couches and recliners in the living room graced by coffee tables. The main room was open to the eat-in kitchen. I was amazed to find a full-size refrigerator, stove, toaster oven, microwave and coffee maker. The kitchen was fully stocked with coffee and water, fresh kitchen towels, paper towels, zip-loc baggies, and candles. Captain Bob's wife, Lisa, takes great care in maintaining the beauty of their cottage. The Songins understand that their charters aren't solely "men only". I can personally attest that, although I love fishing on Lake Ontario, I love the comfort and beauty and romance of the lake when we return from a day on the boat. Great trip, great fish, great memories... thank you Reel Excitement!

Our tour guide Ellen did an excellent job of narrating this 1.5 hour trip down the Buffalo River. She spoke for nearly the whole time and wove together many different facets of industry, history, and local lore. Summer weekends look to be quite popular for this tour so I suggest getting a reservation on-line - their website and the process is very easy to use. Definitely a must do when in Buffalo!

Very recently, I was in their office to drop off the batteries for our pontoon boat. That evening, I received a text from an antagonistic individual in the neighborhood which included a photograph of me covertly taken while I was in the Holiday Harbor offices. The text included profanity and threats. It turns out that Charles, the owner of Holiday Harbor, took the picture and sent it to at least one individual in the neighborhood, who then used it to send a threatening message to me. That individual was arrested and, when confronted with his actions, Charles indicated he does this type of thing routinely. I have never encountered a business owner, particularly in a small community, that behaves in that fashion. It is astonishing that a local business owner would act in that manner, intentionally and deliberately creating a controversial and potentially dangerous situation. I strongly recommend, for your own safety, that you avoid doing business with Charles. He has a great staff, but he should not be trusted whatsoever under any circumstances. Regrettably, there is no option to rate this business with less than one star.

I have only done the open air boat, so this review pertains to that experience. It was like a natural thrill ride/roller coaster. ( Fast speeds and spins, but also some amazing views. One thing to note is make sure you keep your group close together so you can actually be seated together. If you live local, check for discounts online. At one point it was almost a $20 savings for having a local address! If you are looking for a unique, fun adventure, definitely check this out!

Three years ago, they finally found the perfect property - located in the cute little community of Lakewood - and, officially became the owners of multiple homes. Lake Chautauqua is surprisingly idyllic - set in the finger lakes of southwestern New York - it is surrounded by wineries and cute little communities like Bemis Point and Jamestown (which was the birthplace of Lucille Ball.) It's about 40 miles east of Erie, PA and 80 miles south of Buffalo; it is also easy to get to from Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and New York City. The lake it's self is about ten miles long and is great for fishing, boating, tubing and other variety of water sports. The Chautauqua Institute is nearby - hosting concerts and a series of high profile speakers (Al Gore, Jane Goodall most recently) throughout the year. The community of Lilydale is host to a psychic community (and, fairy houses) which is renowned throughout the country - a little wacky, if you ask me, but very interesting to visit. Year round it is a beautiful place to live: the colors in the fall are amazing, winter brings lots of ice fishing, skiing and such, spring and summer are big tourist times here. Frankly, the only time I am truly relaxed is for the two weeks of vacation I get to take with my family (yes, I know I am a dork for liking to hang out with my family on vacation.) We sleep late, eat well, sit around on the boat or deck reading/playing cards/staring at the mote in the middle distance, drink wine and just chillax. It's wonderful.
