The Orpheum is such a great venue! We were here to see Distant Worlds and it was such a fun show with beautiful music and even some people dressed up as Chocobos! The theater is beautiful with ornate designs to the boxes, unbelievably detailed ceilings with stunning chandeliers, and gorgeous embellishments everywhere. The acoustics and lighting during the performances are great and we were really impressed with the quality of show. Seats are comfortable and between that, the music, and the wine I was practically lulled to sleep. Restrooms are nice and clean and large enough to keep the line during intermission from becoming completely ridiculous. Another great thing about intermission is you can refresh your wine supply in a sippy cup you are permitted to bring into the theater with you. I also really appreciate how friendly everyone is here. It's easy getting your tickets and there are helpful individuals to assist you in finding your seats. Between the beautiful and clean venue, the amazing shows they offer, and the friendly service, this is a great place for a fun date night in Omaha. read more

My review is a few years late...(or in the works) The Orpheum is Omaha's oldest theater. and has been rebuilt a few times. It is the iconic Orpheum you would envision. Ornate plaster work throughout a large hall with multi tiers of detail and old world craftsmanship not done anymore. There is one entrance with about 4 doors to pass through and a mobile bar right when you get in. (this is the busiest spots to get a drink just keep walking) Straight ahead is the main staircase and to your left are the current show concessions followed by restroom and another bar and stairs. Each floor here has its own bar and the 3rd floor also has restrooms the 2nd does not. Most of the seats her have a great view its really impossible to not have a good view of the stage. 1st loge is my favorite. I feel I get full view of the entire stage from a higher up vantage point The acoustics are perfect. The temps are about always perfect not hot not cold. Of all the cities I have been this is for sure my favorite venue for performing arts. Maybe because its home and feels comfy, but looking at all the bonuses nope. This place is a GEM!!! read more

I've got to give the Orpheum five stars. There are things that could be improved but generally if you are here watching a production of some sort, I am guessing you're going to love it. The theater itself is not as big as I had anticipated but that is a good thing. It means there really isn't a terrible seat in the house. Now, I can't speak for anyone watching from the last row of the balcony but even those likely aren't that bad. It's also absolutely beautiful. The detail and craftsmanship of the ceilings throughout the entire theater is worth the trip alone. I've seen a few comments here about being cramped in the seating but I didn't experience that. I'm a big guy but I never felt like I was uncomfortable or cramped. I mean, I'd rather be able to lay on my couch and watch fantastic touring productions but that isn't happening. I don't know, I guess maybe I was so excited for the production that I blocked it out! The only complaints I had are around the concessions and the restrooms. The concession choices are typical for most theaters but they are a bit pricey. But, again, that is to be expected I think. The snack selection was disappointing. They buy bulk candy and put them in containers. Yogurt covered pretzels, malted milk balls. Ugh. Maybe some snickers would be nice! But, again, a small complaint. If you walk into the main doors for a production and the line is long for concessions, keep moving through because there are other stands that are often less crowded than the one in the main lobby. It would be nice if there were more restrooms but that just can't be changed. Just plan to wait in line at intermission or hold it until after! I can't wait to see more productions in the coming year. With Hamilton and Phantom coming to town, I am sure we will be back a couple more times to enjoy those productions. read more

I've only been here once, but I was blown away. I felt like I had traveled back in time and was about to watch the assassination of President Lincoln. That's probably a terrible quality but the "old time" feel is what I'm talking about. Also, this place is rather small so I don't think you'd have a bad seat in the entire building, that being said I was in the 8th row. I saw Alton Brown here on Oct. 30th, 2014. The staff were very kind to me. In-fact, prior to the show I had met AB outside the theater and decided to see if they had better seats available. My ticket was for grand tier 1st row. They happened to have 1 seat open up in the 8th row in the main area. I told her it was for my birthday and they made an exception to upgrade my ticket and all I had to pay was the difference, which they were half off on the day of the show. On top of that, AB signed my old ticket and they let me keep it, even though they were suppose to take it. She told me they don't do this usually so it was a special thing. Well they helped make a birthday celebration even better. The theater was very clean, including the bathrooms, and I have no real complaints. Even the temperature during the performance was spot on. Did I mention how beautiful this place is? Really stunning. I've gone to shows in different cities but I think our theater takes the cake. When I get more money/something interesting comes to town, I will definitely go! read more

A few years back we had a TERRIBLE experience at the Orpheum Theater. Their inability to deal with drunken violent patrons led to us taking over a five year break from attending anything there and instead chose to patronize other theaters for our play viewing needs. We frankly did not feel safe and felt that the theater did not take patron safety concerns seriously in any way. Recently we attended Wicked for Girl Scout night and I was pleasantly surprised by improvements that have been made. There are now security checks, entrance/exits seem more secure and staff is definitely more present. My girls and I felt safe and thoroughly enjoyed the show. read more

I've been to the Orphuem Theater a few times for: -Beauty and the Beast - Broadway -The Lion King - Broadway -Blue October Acoustic Concert -Wicked - Broadway The decor is very nice with huge chandeliers above as you walk into the main lobby. I went and saw Wicked this past weekend and the show was great. But if you sit on the second floor balcony, (Loge), you may not be able to see the top of the stage. My wife and I sat in center Loge, first row and we were unable to see the dragon at the top of the stage. If there was something actually going on at the top of the stage and we weren't able to see it, ($90 a ticket), I would have asked to be seated somewhere else. Overall, the experience at the Orpheum is always great. The decor is really neat to see and the service is always pleasant and easy to deal with. read more

The Orpheum is the standard by which all other theaters are measured to me. This Omaha staple is where I saw my very first orchestral concerts, musicals and ballets. It's where I had my high school graduation, and the location for Broadway Across America (among many other events). Plus, it's got all that wonderful history (built in 1927). The ornate luxury, the beautiful detail with modern convenience (skyway parking!)... it gives me that warm fuzzy feeling that I've really arrived in life when I go to a show at the Orpheum. The only slight downfall is that in 1927 people were apparently half the size they are now, so squeezing between people while they're sitting is nearly impossible... but what are you gonna do? That slight hassle is more than worth it. read more

The Orpheum Theater is a great treasure for Omaha to claim as its' own. The facility puts on great shows. We've seen The Lion King, Sister Act and Bill Cosby. They've all been extremely good. The inside of the theater is ornately detailed with several large chandeliers throughout the facility which are a pleasure to look upon. Seating is not overly cramped unless you are sitting next to the railing in the Grand Tier or Balcony. The seats there are exceptionally tight and have less room than an airline seat. Avoid these seats if at all possible. Ushers are very helpful and friendly. It is very easy to park in the OPPD Garage just across the street from the theater. Cost is 6 dollars. You can then use the "Skylink" to walk across straight into the theater easily avoiding traffic on the street and not being exposed to the elements. An overall great experience. read more

Beautiful venue, and a great atmosphere to take in a show. This is definitely a wonderful old building that has been restored top to bottom. I have seen quite a few shows here, both main floor and balcony levels. All of the seats we have had, offered good views of the stage. They offer bar service before and during intermission, and it is not too overpriced seeing you are a captive audience. The only downsides to the place are that the seating is tight, so it is not the most comfortable experience while taking in a show. The bathrooms are also few and far between, so maybe go easy on the drinks before the show, because expect a looong line at intermission. Other than that, the place really is pretty gorgeous inside, and is a great part of downtown. Definitely the place to go if you want a little culture in your life from time to time... read more

Being such a historic venue with so many great performances I hate to not give it 5 stars but I just can't. The seats are so small and cramped it really is quite miserable to squeeze in there. It's really bad when someone needs to get by you. This is worse than airplane seating. Not to mention the acoustics are terrible in here. I saw Book of Mormon and Avenue Q and had a very hard time understanding what they were saying. I sat up pretty high and the words just didn't carry. I sat much closer for a Parody of Thrones and could hear much better but the quality of sound still was poor. the building is very neat and has great décor and historic value. But lets move into the future with some space for the larger humans to sit and with all the technology today I hope they can do something about the acoustics. read more

As a new resident of Omaha who frequents quite a few bars (no shame - like I said, I'm a new resident) in the downtown area, the Orpheum Theater right in the center of it all in downtown Omaha often catches my eye. The Orpheum seems to have a variety of shows rotating all seasons throughout the year and on a whim I decided to buy tickets to see the Hip Hop Nutcracker for a fun date night. When you first walk inside, you don't know what to look at simply because of all of the ornate artwork combined with a vintage feel - I didn't do my research, but it seems like the Orpheum has been around for quite some time. Although I do not believe you can bring outside food into the seating area, they do have concessions (including alcoholic drinks) available for purchase for you to munch and sip on while you enjoy the show! Speaking of the show, I am mostly rating the Orpheum with 3 stars simply because I cannot believe they charged $55 a seat in the nosebleeds. The theater is so small that you can see every little move and motion and that nearly completely obstructs your view in those moments. No worries, it's not 3 stars because of the content, the performance was just fine and I wouldn't count it in a review anyway! I just could not stand the ambiance and I have been to A LOT of shows.... Overall, I will most likely be returning because it is a very popular theater in the area. Just hoping I can get some kind of discount or coupon code for a $100+ seat - and I am grateful for the experience because at least I know it's not worth it to pay for something up top. read more

My wife and I attended a Saturday afternoon matinee of Wicked. We were seated in the Loge area, being seated quickly by very friendly staff. The refreshment selection was nice, a little pricey but it is nice to be able to take them in to the theater. Our only complaint was that my wife is shorter and there was a taller gentleman seated directly in front of her. She had to watch around him. The atmosphere is great. Lighting is nice, sound is great. Very nice theater. We really enjoyed the production! read more

With historic charm and a prime downtown location the Orpheum Theater is a real class act and for decades acted as Omaha's premier venue for fine arts. While overall it might pale slightly to the modern sheen of the nearby Holland Performing Arts Center, the Orpheum still holds its own as a great place to watch the opera, listen to a concert, catch an off Broadway production, etc. Let's see, how many wonderful -- and weird -- concerts/productions have I seen here? This theater is really a great asset to the city of Omaha. It offers that old school flare with amazing detail and a fun night out all at the same time! The drinks are priced about $5, seems like the concessions are cash only. Over the years I have sat in a variety of seats and really haven't found a bad one yet. I am very excited about the upcoming schedule of shows and look forward to many more fun nights out! Also, parking at OPPD building was very affordable, only $6 and offers a covered walkway/bridge to access the theater. Great little asset since we have unpredictable weather pretty often. read more

If you love musicals, you have probably already been to the Orpheum. This is where all the touring productions come to and is the one of the best music venue's in town (sorry but the Holland's acoustics just have this place beat). Of the many musicals I have seen here (Wicked, Rock of Ages, Spamalot, Book of Mormon, Billy Elliot, and Lion King) this venue has been great for them all. Parking is not the easiest around here, so make sure to be early when you are coming to a show, and know that there are plenty of lots and street parking around so the OPPD lot is not your only choice. One big plus about this place, they let you bring drinks to your seats. There is nothing quite like drinking a wells gin and tonic through a cocktail straw while watching high quality entertainment. Watch out for drinking too many of those though, bathroom lines get pretty long especially at intermission, and it isn't easy knocking all the people out of your way to get to a stall. Coat check is in the lower level, and I highly suggest it. Not having your coat with you saves precious inches with those lovely old fashioned and on the small seats. read more

The Orpehum Theatre is Omaha's version of a mini Broadway. It's certainly one of the city's treasures. Th exterior and interior of the building are magnificent with it's glimmering chandeliers and it's ornamental ceiling and walls. Not only are the shows incredible, but the inside of the building is an experience in itself. i've been coming to the Orpheum Theatre since I was a little girl. I've seen ballet, gone on field trips, and dance recitals. The Orpheum also houses large opera and musical numbers. If you are a fan of musical theatre or any theatre at all, definitely check this out! I've been to -Bright Eyes Concert -Beauty and the Beast -The Lion King - Wicked. I will keep adding to the list! One gripe: If you sit on the second or third center balcony, you may not be able to see the top of the stage. I've been wanting to visit the Orpheum for a long long time! I finally found a friend to drag along to a show with me (Dirty Dancing) and it didn't disappoint. The interior is simply gorgeous, the staff very helpful, the show was wonderful. I thought it was also really cool that the snacks (though expensive) went along with the theme of the show. I picked up a Diet Coke and bag of watermelon sugars for close to $10! I'll be back. Parking was also not hard to find. read more

You can easily get lost in the beauty and grandeur of the theater but the sound and world class performances quickly bring back to the stage which is easily viewed every sight line. When I came here for the first time it was for Phantom Of The Opera. And this beautiful historic theater made you feel as though you stepped back in time right into the show itself! It made the experience so much more of an experience and so much more memorable!!! I was in awe of the architecture of the building and how well maintained it was!!! Getting in is very fast. The drinks and snacks are overly priced, but I love that they have changed it so that you can take them into the theater seats. The seats are not comfortable - even if I wasn't a bigger guy - these seats need to be re-done - a little wider would be great - but terrible leg space and just and uncomfortable experience for the bum and back. Musicals aren't usually my 'thing'. When I purchased tickets for "Million Dollar Quartet" , I expected impersonations and musical abilities. What I got for my money FAR EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS! The parking was great - the skylink from the OPPD garage to the Orpheum was super-convenient. The Orpheum is gorgeous inside. EVERY worker was friendly and helpful. A glass of wine, and off to our seats. Now, let's get to the show. ALL of the players were not only outstanding musicians / vocalists, but also played their roles in no-less-than-outstanding fashion. When a worker mentioned that the show was 100 minutes non-stop, and that we didn't want to miss one minute of it, they weren't kidding. Every moment was superbly entertaining. We couldn't stop talking about the show all the way home. Summary - this is a show my wife and I will remember fondly for a long time. read more

The old forgotten arts of stage production with wonderful singers and actors. The stage is well to host any show the house seating is flexible to most the art work in the lobby was well preserved in traditional play houses i would think this would be a play house for Shakespeare himself. Thankfully its not a run-down theater. Recommend as a site to visit in person. read more

We recently traveled from Des Moines to Omaha to see Wicked. The play was of course Wicked awesome. The theater is beautiful but the angle in the balcony makes it difficult for short people to see at times. Also, being such and old building the halls are small. WE went to a 2pm show and I would have thought that would have ment alcohol was not king but we were wrong. They have bars in the halls that take up more room than there is to walk, which from a non drinker is just really anoying. The intermission is only 15 minutes, and again because the building is so old there are limited bathrooms. The staff will have no problem telling you that they wont let you back in to the show if you go over the intermission time though, but they will let you in anyway disrupting the entire show which makes you wish you had just stayed at home some times. If Wicked didnt have such limited performances we wouldnt have gone and probably wont make the extra long tip again. I am 6 foot tall and the seating is horribly cramped! I had lines on my knees for hours after leaving and I was constantly worried about my mother and her back. The acoustics are terrible as well. We couldnt tell who was singing alot of the time. I kept thinking... when I saw this last time it was amazing and all I can do this time is worry that my guests are happy. read more

The Orpheum always has great shows coming to it and the theater is wonderful. You can park across the street and use the sky walk if you don't want to go outside! It's just great! I've seen everything from Clifford the Big Red Dog to Norah Jones there. It works for everything. I've been to the Orphuem Theater many times. Some recent shows include Wicked, The Lion King, and Radio City Rockettes Christmas Spectacular. I really enjoy sitting on the main floor. Beautiful and charming atmosphere and updated technology screen that really adds to the productions. Parking across the street is affordable and has ease of access. read more

This old building has some amazing decor! I absolutely loved the set Jerry Seinfeld did here recently, it was as good as it gets. We had great seats down by the orchestra. I am a tall guy and usually struggle sitting for more than an hour at a time, but I did not get up for well over 90 minutes and had no problems. My only complaint regarding comfort would be the muscles in my face, but that was Jerry's fault not the Orpheum! I did have one huge problem: they sold me a $7 domestic beer in a plastic bottle, the born on date was from a year ago. I could not take more than one drink, almost made me puke it was so skunky and rotten. I don't mind paying top dollar for beer at a show like this, but it has to be palatable at least! read more

Saw wicked here last weekend. Since I'm new to town this was my first visit. They had lots of merch tables so there was no wait on that. They had lots of bars open for that matter as well. The space is really cool. It had a baroque, adorned look that would make you feel pretty classy even if you were in flip flops. Intermission and leaving got a little claustrophobic. I'm a little on the tall side (6"0) and I was having trouble sitting comfortably without my legs hitting the chair in front of me. I really enjoyed myself and would definitely return. read more

really splendid production of Phantom of the Opera. the ambience and history of the Orpheum left you that you were truly in the Paris Opera and they used it very well. the OPPD lot was already full when i got downtown but i found other reasonable $8 parking around the corner and did have to walk in the rain - but caught some great photos of Downtown Omaha. i only wish my camera would have worked better IN the Orpheum itself. the tickets were reasonable and the volunteers they had to help us navigate were so nice and helpful. awesome experience! read more
