I started coming to see Dr. Omphroy a few years ago when my prior ophthalmologist retired. It's super easy to get an appointment with him. His staff is very friendly and professional. I typically only have to wait a few minutes until I'm called back into a room. Due to Covid restrictions, they check temperatures, there's plenty of hand sanitizer available, and social distancing is enforced in the waiting room. Dr. Omphroy is really good at what he does. He's also very personable and easy to talk to, and makes all his patients feel comfortable. I definitely would recommend him if you're looking for a new ophthalmologist. read more

I had Lasik surgery with another surgeon nearly 20 years ago and went from nearly blind to having 20/20 vision and although I could see distant objects, I've had to carry reading glasses with me since then. Made an appointment for 3pm. Was called the day before to confirm this time. When I showed up at 3 for my appointment I had to wait 30 mins before I was seen b/c a walk in family was taken to the back at my appointment time. When I asked a receptionist she asked "are you guys in a hurry? " uh well, isn't that why people make appointments in the first place? I went in to see dr omphroy cause of a sty in my right eye. Staff were very nice and friendly. His wife is actually my PCP. They're in the same office, just in separate rooms. On the left would be dr luis, and the right is dr gabriella. I love how very welcoming they are, and they really look you in the eye as they're talking. Cause in some doctors offices, they "sound" nice, but they're looking down on their computer or scribbling something down and just tell you to leave your insurance card and picture id and to have a seat. Here, they take the time to look at you and see how you are. So apparently dr luis is a very busy doctor, he gets a lot of patients. But i was desperate. The sty was so red and big that i knew i had to see the doctor. Not to mention painful! So she double booked me and told me to come as soon as possible. Good thing his clinic is just 5 minutes away from us. I left as soon as i can, checked in, and waited. I waited for about 30 minutes, and the dr called me in. He was very nice and explained what a sty is. And he told me that it had nothing to do with hygiene or makeup. I felt like he read my mind cause i was actually thinking "am i not washing my hands enough?", "should i change my makeup brushes?" So he put me at ease. It's kinda scary when he examines your eye in that thing where you rest your chin. Cause he was ready to poke my eye to let some of the pressure out, i was so scared, i kept telling myself "DO NOT MOVE A MUSCLE OR ELSE YOU'LL BE BLIND FOREVER " I was so scared that if i moved one bit that he'll end up poking my eye. Let me tell you, it was the most painful thing in the world. It was like having labor, but on my eyelid. I was tearing up the whole time. I know he tried to do it as quickly as he can, but man it was the longest 2 minutes of my life. But he cured me, he gave me some drops. He also prescribed me some medicine to help speed up the healing. He said it'll take about 2 months for the redness to go away. He is a great doctor and I recommend him to anyone that needs an eye doctor! read more

I was referred by an Optometrist to see Dr. Luis Omphroy. I was having pain in my eye and was told i had elevated pressure in the eye. After he saw me he prescribed an eye medication. I didn't get better after a week and self referred to another eye doctor in Hawaii Kai. I was told Dr. O had in fact prescribed medication which is known to increase eye pressure not decrease it. I was started on correct eyedrops and my symptoms went away quickly. Do your research folks! read more

Dr. Luis Omphroy performed cataract surgery on my mother's eyes. She is delighted with the results. We had visited another eye surgeon (in the Aiea Medical Building) and he was very rude. So I had trepidation about coming to a new ophthalmologist, but Dr. Omphroy is very polite and respectful. His staff members are great, especially Kourtney (sp?), who is a wonderful employee. I complimented him on his staff, and he said they keep the shop running smoothly so he can concentrate on doing eyes. He is a great eye surgeon and a good manager. We also really enjoyed the surgery center downtown (Hale Pawa'a) where the surgery was performed--sounds weird, but it was very relaxing. Took my 7 y/o son to see Dr. Omphroy and I was less than impressed. He walked in and did not speak or introduce himself. He sat down at the computer started typing and repeated back to me some information I told the nurse. He then when on to conduct an examination without explain anything to myself or my child. After he was done turned back around and started typing on the computer. Asked a question about what pharmacy I wanted a prescription at then continued typing. After he was done with what he needed he took all of 5 minutes to provide an explanation. JUST TERRIBLE! Advised I schedule a follow up appointment & I will not! They are located in the left corner of Mary Savio Bldg. just right across by Cattle Company. dr.omphroy's staffs are really helpful and friendly. Just a reminder though they are open (i guess) on weekdays and they open on saturdays every other month. Dr. Omphriy was amazing. I'm visiting my daughter from the mainland and had a medical emergency and didn't know where to find a quality ophthalmologist and one who could see me THAT day. I did NOT want to sit in the ER all day which really was the obvious option that I had. I did a quick search on Yelp for ophthalmologists in the area and his practice came up and had five great reviews. I called the office and was thrilled when she said they would see me ASAP. She took my information and after a 15 minute drive, I was being seen within 30 minutes! The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and very kind. When I met the doctor, it was no surprise. He was very caring and kind. But even more importantly, to me, it became obvious that he was very knowledgeable, experienced and thorough. He took his time to get a full grasp of my situation but also took equal time to educate me about the treatment and reassure that I would recover - always a plus! Due to moving from Wahiawa I wanted to transfer all my care close to home and had heard that a lot of doctors moved to Mary Savio Medical Plaza. My eyes have always been a problem from middle school and I have always been treated by an optometrist. I did not know that there was a difference between an optometrist and an ophthalmologist until being seen by Dr. Luis Omphroy. His staff members were not only friendly; they were welcoming from beginning to end. They also were very helpful when it came to directions! Seeing that one review with one star not only pisses me the hell off but made me want to spread word that the office is not what that person who seems to be from the mainland says it is. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and being from Hawaii makes me want to cuss the bitch out ISLAND STYLE because of so much hatred that she put towards an office that showed nothing but the opposite!!!! Haole needs to go back to where she originally got her bad eyes checked from since its obvious that she got hit in the eyes with a ball from the BALL PARK she keeps mentioning in her damn review.
