We finally were able to go in on 2/26/22. And, the wait was worth it. We were the only people who were not volunteers or employees that day - we had the museum to ourselves. The building was much larger than it appears outside. You enter into the front room, which is a combination of artifacts, art, jewelry, and a gift shop. There is a room open on the north side which was, for the most part empty. This is their special exhibit room. There were some remaining items from a prior exhibit, which were very interesting. There is also a room upstairs with various items. The most interesting were the quilts and a Native American dress exhibit. Most of the museum is built to honor Native American veterans. This whole theme was fascinating. I fancy myself as an American history buff. Frankly, everything was new to me except for a display case explaining the "Code Talkers." (If you aren't sure about the code talkers - check Wikipedia or see the movie. This was fantastic. There is no entrance fee so you can just enter, but there is a place to leave donations. When you do go, make sure to donate what you can. Much of their funding relies on this.

It was cute to see all the babies next to their mothers lining up on top of the hill. During the show, each mother and baby are lead into the arena and brought around the ring. The baby usually then go off any play with other babies. So cute! The show is on Wednesdays and Saturdays. What was really cool is that the babys are born a dark color and then turn white as they grow older. I had a great time and would love to come back to see the other events the place has.

It's near Gurnee and could easily be combined with a visit there or the Gold Pyramid House (which you'll drive right by). If you love horses or have children who do, you really must go. I'm not a big horse person, but I like history and for Goldstar/Groupon prices it was worth it. If you buy online, get your ticket scanned at the ticket booth and get a program. Plan your visit realizing that the stables are open only after the show, and that the sanitary facilities are Port-a-Potties. Food is available onsite, though there are no vegetarian options. Unless you have special tickets or are handicapped; you'll be sitting in covered bleachers. To pick your seat, come early and note which way the shadows fall if you want to sit in shade. Closed-toe shoes are recommended; pathways are gravel and the stables are partially floored with fine soil/sand. The 90 minute show is two halves of four numbers each, with narration and piped-in classical music. There's a 15 minute intermission, during which you can buy a sandwich, use the bathroom, and look through souvenirs in the food/souvenir tent. To start, four liveried riders ride in, doff their hats (take this photo, either now or at the end, depending on where you sit), and then you're treated to a parade of mares and foals; horses pulling a carriage; and gradually-more-trained stallions. Some of the numbers go a little long (there are only so many ways to ride a horse across a short football field) - everything is symmetrical and they want to be sure everyone in the audience sees all the tricks. After the show they open the stable doors for the "tour"; go right. 10 minutes after the show they'll let you in where the horses are; while waiting, you can look at historical photos on the stable walls. Peek at the horses in their stalls; and, on either end, talk with a rider and even pet their horse (head right again if all you want is to pet a horse as soon as possible). The majority of the stalls (and a bathroom!) are on the left; on the east (non-field) side of the stadium is an official photo station where you can take a selfie with a horse and rider. (No charge.) Altogether, a pleasant afternoon.

Cindy the event coordinator that started in January 2016 was great! We were disappointed that one of our vendors told us about the staff change at the Kemper Center and that Allison was no longer there as of November 2015. As the bride, I did not hear directly from anyone at the Kemper Center about the staff change. As a professional courtesy, at the very least they would reach out to their clients that have events booked when there is a staff change, but they didn't. Lucky for the "powers that be" Cindy is wonderful and wow'd us! She is super friendly and knowledgeable about weddings and events and all around great to work with. From the first phone call to the goodbye hug at 11:45pm on the night of our reception Cindy was so helpful, professional, accommodating and amazing. She went above and beyond with helping us with the plans for our reception. Cindy explained everything and made sure we understood all our options for drinks and liquor services. The day/night of the event the entire staff was incredible and the venue was clean and perfectly set up! The staff was super efficient and effective! The AC was cranking out and everyone had an amazing time!! The entire staff at the Kemper Center was amazing as well. James was particularly helpful and definitely provided extraordinary customer service at the reception. He went above and beyond in terms of service and all around was simply great! The grounds were lovely and it was a picture perfect day to take lots of photos. We loved every moment. The only slight disappointment was the fountain was not on so we didn't take any pictures around it otherwise it was a splendid day that we will cherish for many years to come!!!

It's really pretty & the interior was filled with old wedding dresses & it's history. Interesting fact I observed... wedding dresses don't seem to go out of style. The wedding dresses were numbered & correspond to a phamlet detailing its history. It's a recommendation of $5-$10, affordable & you do your part on old building restoration. Even though it wasn't a part of the city for a long time, it is now and it's older than anything else. Pretty much this is used for banquets and stuff mostly even though it's also a museum but you can make an appointment to visit. Before coming here it should be known this isn't like a museum that a lot of people know about. It's used mostly for events. Things like weddings and that. It has pretty limited hours if just coming to look around. This is open only Saturdays. It's the oldest known structure in the city. The oldest part was built in 1833, and the addition was built in 1868 or so. Among the artifacts are a collection of things found in the ground collected in an archeological dig. There's objects like buttons, guns, toys, and more. Other exhibits show the history of Norwood Park and what it was like. This place is also the home of the Norwood Park Historical Society and is where they have meetings. Good place to check out if you can make the limited hours. It's a must if wanting to learn more about the local history and what it was like back then. This is also pretty popular for those looking to have some big event like a wedding or whatever.

We were pleasantly surprised and fortunate to find the Blacksmith Shop open and that is the case only on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 3pm. Alec was the blacksmith on duty and he provided some insights into his craft as well as a walk-through of their various iron products, both functional and decorative. He is one of five volunteer blacksmiths on the staff here and really enjoys his time here. Thanks for the tour Alec!
