The Catering services provided by Jon and Mary were brokered by Caspers on-site catering (the aforementioned southern restaurant in their business profile). The following review was of my experiences with Jon and Mary and their excellent catering services at my wedding reception, July 2010. "This is a review of Caspers on-site catering service provided by Jon N. and his wife. A little background info: Jon and his wife catered my wedding reception. We had a full menu of whole smoked chicken, bbq pork ribs, cornbread muffins, baked beans, hush puppies and a cucumber salad for a little over 100 people. The reception was located on private land, was held 100% outdoors. I have a severe reaction to MSG (monosodium glutamate), a spice found in many meat rubs and spice packs. I discussed this with the chef at Casper's before our tasting, to take place at the restaurant, and he assured me that he would prepare a special spice set just for our event to be sure it didn't contain MSG. The tasting went well and we decided to have them cater our event. The price was very reasonable at about $12.50/plate, left-overs are yours to keep, and they even prepared a kids menu of hot dogs and mac'n cheese, brought a 30 gallon cooler of ice, AND provided paper plates and utensils for serving at no extra charge. Now, up to this point I was giving them a solid 4 stars. Why 4? Because I was having a little trouble communicating with Jon via email at the beginning, a minor issue. But as you can see, they get 5 stars from me, here's why. On the weekend of our wedding there was a festival going on in a neighboring town and the ferry traffic was very heavy. This made our event run a little off schedule. Jon was not phased by this minor setback. He went well above the call of duty to accommodate our late guests and made everyone feel at home in his outdoor kitchen. They even prepared a couple surprise appetizers that weren't on the menu just for us to munch on. The food: Out of over 100 people, I got nothing but rave reviews from my guests. It was spectacular. The hushpuppies were a crowd favorite, crispy on the outside, a nice cornbread texture on the inside, and just the slightest pepper kick. A choice appetizer. The chicken was juicy and fall-off-the-bone tender. The ribs melted in your mouth and the rub was not too overpowering, bbq sauce served on the side (as it should be). The kids loved the mac'n cheese. After all my guests were relaxing in the sun and well fed, they quietly packaged up all the leftover food for us to keep, hooked up the trailer, and headed home. The next day, clean-up day, the rest of the food was gone after lunch. 5 stars: *Food, it was simply amazing, and at that price I could not have asked for more. *Flexibility, both in menu preparation (no msg) and with time. *Friendliness; they are the greatest people, very accommodating in every way. If you need something, just ask, they're there to help. And all my guests felt very welcome. *Self sufficient; all they needed from us was a 110v outlet to plug in the deep frier. (which they could have done without had they brought their generator). Working with them was worry-free. Just tell them where to setup and they do the rest. In the end, I was very pleased to say the least. I would recommend this service to anyone planning an outdoor wedding/reception. Any hiccups in the plans were like water off a ducks back for them. Just good people and great food, what else can I say? 5 stars, no question about that." read more

We just got married on Monday, and Jon and Mary catered for us. I couldn't wait any longer to write a review, it was so unbelievably wonderful. I wish I had the words to describe how incredible these people are. They are beyond words. They're lovely, they're friendly, they're reliable and hardworking, and their food is some of the tastiest I've ever had. Period. Not just for weddings. Jon and Mary's food actually shaped most of our wedding... we'd always had a joke that all we needed for a successful celebration of our union would be hand dipped corn dogs and pulled pork sandwiches. In our tasting with Jon and Mary, I off-handedly mentioned it, knowing they could make pulled pork happen like nobody's business, but never expecting anything to come of the corndogs. Jon looked at Mary, then at me, and said, "Well, we can make that happen." He worked on his recipe for the next 9 months and made the most delicious skewers of small sausages covered in fluffy and crispy hushpuppy batter. (My maid of honor shoved one in my face immediately following the ceremony, and thank goodness because they were delicious and I hardly had any time to eat after that). That pretty much sealed the deal for us, and over the rest of the year, we only became more fond of Jon and Mary, as they responded to all of our requests, gave us updates on improved recipes, sent us photos of other events they were working on, connected me with another bride... the list goes on. One of the other things we liked about them was that it didn't feel like hiring "caterers," it felt like family members were cooking all the food, and it was so important to us to have a laid-back and comfortable wedding. The day-of came, and when I stepped out of the car, I smelled the most delicious smoke and barbeque and knew everything would be perfect. They smiled huge (I might have even seen them get a little misty, but it could have just been me), and were such an integral part of the night. They made sure my mom got extra fried green tomatoes, helped my grandmother find a plate when we'd run out so she could have her slice of pie, were friendly to my guests, waved us off at the end of the night... and we received nothing but rave reviews, from my usually disgruntled cousin's "This is the kind of food people SHOULD have at weddings," to "This is the most juicy and delicious chicken" to "This is hands down the best food I've ever had at a wedding." And knowing we were in good hands there allowed us to branch out and figure out the other pieces we wanted: a bluegrass band, a country feel, mason jars, etc. They went the extra mile. There was never a question they didn't want to answer, never a time they were too busy to chat or meet with me, no request that was ridiculous, and not one bit of dry meat on those chicken thighs. It was out of control good, and they are out of control good people, whose love and care show through in their food and amazing attitudes. My wife and I just celebrated our marriage on November 2nd up in Edmonds. We had randomly found Jon & Mary on Yelp, and sent them an email thanks to the great reviews. Jon was quick to get in touch with us and set up a meeting/tasting. They are extremely nice people who really love what they do, and are a joy to work with. They were very concerned with getting things exactly how we wanted it, and worked very hard to provide whatever it was we needed. After tasting their food and discussing how they do business, we were sold. They kept in contact throughout our planning process (about six months) and we had no issues. The day of arrived and Mary arrived right on time, set everything up and the food was freshly ready right when we needed it for the reception. She literally pulled the pork for our pulled pork sandwiches minutes before the hungry attendees began devouring. People would not stop telling my wife and I how amazing the food was. We had the pulled pork sandwiches, mac and cheese, greek salad and corn bread. They did a few appetizers as well, shrimp skewers (Mary specifically walked me over some while we were greeting the guests and handed me a few, and they were AMAZING!) and hush puppies. Everything was great. The food was hot, didn't get close to running out (our cleanup crew was more than happy to take home leftovers!), and they were so helpful in whatever ways they could be. They were a huge help to make our wedding amazing, and I would recommend them in a heartbeat. read more

Jon and Mary are amazing! They catered our wedding yesterday and the food was wonderful. For appetizers we had deep fried shrimp with a delicious aioli sauce and the best hush puppies I've ever had. For dinner Jon and Mary made pulled pork, chicken, some of the best mac n' cheese I have ever tasted, tomato salad, rolls, and grilled veggies. They were on time, set everything up very nice, and before they left they packed all the leftovers for us. I would definitely recommend them!! read more

I called On-Site catering to cater my husband's 40th Birthday party, was not too sure what to expect (other places had not given me much optimism). But they were wonderful! John and Mary were amazing and so easy to work with. I ordered their pulled pork sliders and baby back ribs, with mac & cheese, tossed green salad and their delicious cornbread muffins. Guests were raving about the food, it was delicious. Price was reasonable, with plenty of food (took home some leftovers!) and even some extra mac & cheese thrown in. When we were looking for a caterer for our June 2014 wedding the first thing we did was research reviews. Based on those reviews we contacted Jon and Mary. We first met with Jon and Mary in December of last year. Based on that meeting we knew right away we wanted to use their services. They were so warm and personable, they love what they do and it showed when they spoke with us about the details of what we were looking for. We decided on a menu of Smoked pork and smoked chicken sliders, Cornbread hush puppies, Prawns, Cole Slaw, Smoked Mac & cheese, Baked Beans & Frogs legs (my fiancée asked for those). Also included were various soda, bottled water, we added a keg of Root beer and vanilla ice cream for root beer floats. We also decided to have Mary make our Wedding cake. When we discussed the cakes I let them know I wasn't fond of buttercream frosting. I wanted whipped cream or cream cheese frosting. Mary hadn't done much with those kinds of frostings but over the course of the next 6 months she must have tried and tested many recipes, because the cakes turned out FABULOUS!! At first we thought we would need food for 100 people but when all was said and done it turned into 120 people. Jon and Mary were able to make the change in head count with no problem. We had a taste testing and found that we had made the right decisions on our menu. We didn't change anything and were confident that our guests would be wowed. The food was FANTASTIC! We had so many compliments about the food, and I have passed along their contact information to about a half dozen people that have asked for it. After the ceremony while we were taking pictures, Mary came out to deliver some Hush puppies to me. (They are to DIE FOR!) I'm glad she did because we hardly had time to eat after that. We did get a few bites of food and it was just as good as it was at the taste testing. There were plenty of leftovers and that was a good thing because it wasn't until the next day that my husband and I got to actually have a little of EVERYTHING. Jon and Mary were absolutely amazing at our wedding! We had pork and chicken sliders, potato salad, a tomato red onion and cucumber salad, coleslaw, and mac and cheese. They brought all of their own equipment to the venue and worked with us to bring helpers to use our real plates provided by the venue. The hush puppies were absolutely delicious and they passed them to all the guests. The buffet line went quickly and they brought us our own plates before everyone else. They cut the cakes and passed them to all the guests. They were so helpful and I heard from multiple guests that they were doing whatever they could to help. I cannot express how wonderful Jon and Mary were for our wedding. They met us down In Des Moines for the initial taste test and even developed a new recipe for the egg rolls that were served as appetizers because they were my favorite comfort food. The hush puppies and jumbo prawns were amazing and everyone was raving about the smoked mac and cheese. We also had pulled pork and smoked chicken and it was amazing! They truly love helping to make the day as special as it could be. We were on a very tight budget and they worked with us the entire way through to make the entire process as stress free for my husband and I. On the wedding day they made sure the save a plate of the appetizers for each of us to make sure we had food. They gave us recipe updates on the egg rolls and responded to all requests, inquiries, panic attacks and whatever else that we needed in a very timely and wonderful way. They are an amazing couple and I would not hesitate to recommend them for any event!! When our original catering plan fell through, I was panicked. I never dreamed of finding exactly what we wanted and once we found Jon and Mary, there was no question that the food was going to be amazing. Please Please give them a call.
