I've gone here for the shooting range several times now and it has been a great experience. The staff are friendly and professional. They do a good job in making sure everyone is following safety procedures while at the gun range. To use a lane at the range is about $20 and you can bring your own ammo or purchase it at the store. I also went to the beginner's gun course that this store offers for $99. It was a good introduction to handguns and goes over the basics on how to fire a gun. They also offer concealed carry classes as well as others. read more

This is a store that carries a very big selection of firearms (and accessories), offers lessons, has a women's shooting club, and an indoor shooting range. What I like about it: 1- The range officer is always present and never leaves anyone on the shooting line alone. Safety is the highest priority and it shows. I've had to ask for help before and have never been made to feel less than or dumb for not being comfortable doing something (in this case it was clearing an ammunition double feed). The range has up to date technology and is clean and well maintained. 2- The staff in the retail area are very knowledgable. They won't tell you what to buy but if you describe the characteristics of what you're looking for, they can help you narrow down some options. They encourage you to hold and handle as many as you'd like and I e never felt rushed. 3- There's a pretty large selections of firearms available for rent. The ability to try a firearm out really helps when making a costly investment. You can also rent the safety equipment and purchase range ammunition and targets. 4- The price for both daily range use and/or membership is reasonable. They have a nice discount for military members. If you go for a membership you can bring two guests for free per year. My personal wish list: 1- One-on-one training/classes with instructors for those who would like to work on skills beyond the basic firearm safety/concealed carry class that is offered. Other topics (like marksmanship, home defense, etc) would be great too. 2- Would love to see a female behind the retail desk and/or on the range. (Sorry if they have one and I just haven't spotted her yet!) The gentlemen are great, but sometimes a lady just wants another female perspective when talking about firearms as they pertain to women. 3- That's pretty much it. Preface: I've been shooting my entire life. I want to be fair in this review. The staff was pleasant and accommodating when I was there. Their pricing is a bit more pricey than other equally reputable ranges. There isn't a lot of room in the shooting area, which leads me to the next few unfortunate observations: 1. Individual lane booths are not installed but would cut down on the amplified noise coming off the reflective walls and floor. 2. Lanes are narrow and so the other shooters are far too close to each other. 3. Employees stand behind the shooters making sure they're following the rules, which can feel extremely unnerving and unsettling when you're trying to relax, concentrate and have a good range day. If this is going to be your first time EVER at a range, I do NOT recommend going here. It's okay if you're used to indoor ranges, already. I've since acquired a range membership elsewhere, so I personally won't be returning. read more

Let me just explain this first, I am not someone who leave review often or even bad review at that, but my first time experience at this gun range leave me so irritated and angry that I have to write a review. Please bear with me. I am new to Jacksonville area, so I have limited experience with gun range/store in the area but I am not a noobs when it comes to firearms and gun range rules/etiquette. I was planning to visit gun ranges around my home. Seeing them on the freeway and being the closet to my house, I choose to check out On Target Sport first. My first impression stepping in the store is that it's clean and organized. However, the good aspects end there. The moment I talk to the counter staffs, I already get the feeling that I am being judged and looked down on. If you know those gun store/range that constantly looks down on their customers especially the one that don't look, talk, or being a certain demographic, they will instantly become prejudice. I think this is one of them. Being a first timer looking to use their range, they asked me to fill out a waiver form which I understand. They asked me to show them my firearms (2 ARs) and ammo which I gladly did. Everything went smoothly until I showed them my pre-load magazines (they are in a separate compartment of my gun bag, NOT locked and loaded in the firearms). Then suddenly they treated me like I am the most wanted on FBI's list. Told me if I want to use the range, I will have to go out to the parking lot and unloaded all my magazines then come back in and load it at the firing bay. I explained to them that I don't have loose rounds and I brought many of magazines intending to shoot all of them. For me to unload and reload would take me a lot of time that I could use to shoot. I clearly let them know that would be very inconvenient/hassle for me. I asked them why they have that rule because this is the first time I heard of such rule at a range. Is it because of safety, I asked? Well, their response were "OH, so you don't want to shoot anymore today!". Not one explanation or accommodation, or alternative solution is offer by them. This left me speechless and irritated so much that I just went along and said I don't want to shoot anymore even thought I wanted to. So I went to my truck and cried (just kidding). I looked up google maps for the nearest gun range and went there instead (just 15 mins. down the road). I will leave a positive review on the other gun range if you want to read. Look up Basic Range and Gun for my 5 stars review there. Long story short, new gun range only asked me to not use steel case ammo and fill out waiver form. I shot all my pre-load mags there without any incident if that what you were wondering. My beef with On Target Sport is not about the rule, but the way they handle enforcing such rule. How could I know before visiting that they have such rule? Mind you, my demeanor when talking to them was of someone who is polite and soft spoken but know what I am doing when it comes to firearms, but I am still get treated like I am either a gun noobs or an irresponsible gun owner or a dangerous criminal. In which they can't take a chance at letting me shoot at their nice and clean range. You know what! On Target Sport, you just got yourself a one star review (I don't care if you have 4.6 stars; to me you are a 1 star) and lost a potential customer. I haven't had the pleasure of visiting this place as much as I would like, but for the times I have, it has been exceptional. They have range rangers who give you shooting guidance. They are very knowledgeable and help correct any shooting displacement they see. It is a very clean establishment. The business offers good rental and purchase options with reasonable prices. Gouge Customers? LOSE Customers! My minor child and I have shot here several times. When we both shoot, we both get charged; that's only right. I recently brought her to shoot and I was there only to train and supervise her. Upon checking in, they even asked how many people are shooting and I told them "one". I was surprised to see I was charged as a second shooter and asked why, if I either never fire a shot or I'm training someone to be a future customer, was I charged. Their reasoning is ridiculous. I was told that I am "using" their facilities, that I am taking up space in a lane, and that as a private range they can set the rules. OK. So I pay for their air and square footage of the same lane as the shooter, not in anyone else's way, all in order to train a future customer, never mind if I don't shoot a single round. So I pay for the arrogant attitude that it's their range and they can do what they want. (Warning! arrogance and weapons are a horrible combination). They gouge me for a measly $12 and thereby lose a current customer, lose a future customer, and earn scorn and ill will as a business and poor reviews on multiple internet forums. All for $12. I've shot for 40 years around the nation and have never seen such a policy. I've since learned that several ranges in this town apply the policy. Here's how to avoid it: St. Nicholas Guns & Range in Jacksonville does NOT gouge customers using such a ridiculous policy. Use your $12 to buy ammo and shoot there. Enjoy your $12 OTS. It's not the money; it's the principle. And the loss of thousands of dollars in future business and customers. read more

Never tried the range out as my wife and I currently shoot elsewhere but from the reviews we may need to give it a shot one day, haha get it? I came in during the holidays to buy a gun that was on sale according to their website. They were slammed but that did not hinder my experience. I was helped by two people and had to make an online order as the particular gun was not in stock. Within a week I received a phone call and my gun was ready so it was a seamless purchase. They did not haggle me with buying any other unnecessary stuff, memberships, etc but I did browse as I was looking for a case and some accessories for my new toy. Their prices are about the same as other gun retailers in the area and just a tad bit more expensive than online but if it was up to me I'd buy local even if I'm just spending a little bit more. My gun tends to jam quite a bit - Not any fault to On Target but I figured I would just throw that out there for anyone making an impulse purchase like I did :) read more

On target is by far one of the best gun rages and gun stores in the Jacksonville and Orange Park area. KASEY was amazing! She literally showed me how to clean and oil my firearms and she took her time and was completely patience with me. She didn't make me feel rushed and she made me feel comfortable! Andrew on the other hand is awesome too! He was extremely helpful as well. Everyone in there had great customer service, even though we worked mainly with Kasey & Andrew I would recommend anyone. The entire staff worked as a team and we witnessed how great they all correlated with each other. I went in there to get a crash course about my firearm and I left with upgrades. I'm in my mid-late 50's and have been to plenty of different indoor/outdoor ranges and this one is right at the top! Excellent, professional, friendly staff. The facility is clean and updated with computerized target positioning. The range master was on scene the entire time and was more than willing to provide assistance/advice as required. As any firearm owner knows (or SHOULD know) safety on a range is paramount and these guys are all about it! I'm an enthusiast, love "lead therapy" but I find in a lot of places the guys working there can be a little ... condescending. I've been to a couple places in Jacksonville & had so-so experiences. I stopped in On Target Sports, conveniently located just off 295 between Collins & Blanding and even though the place was buzzing with activity, someone immediately asked if they could help. Without going into details I needed assistance with a gun transaction which I wasn't that familiar with & they ( Mgr. Tom Pitti) were VERY helpful throughout the entire process. Also the facility is state of the art, clean, seemed to be effectively run & definitely had a good vibe. The shop contains a nice selection of pistols & rifles that you can rent inexpensively moreover the ammo isn't highly priced either. Something that this gun range has that others don't Is a very contemporary lounge that allows you to sit down and watch through the glass windows without having to enter the range to see the action. But budget at least 15 minutes to read & sign five pages of small-print waivers & disclaimers. You didn't pack a long gun in your pistol bag? Sorry, but you're still required to sign the centerfire rifle page. Prefer preloading your magazines to minimize range time? You'll get additional reloading practice after they empty every one of your magazines & inspect for steel-cased rounds. Oh, did you place your range bag on their counter? They'll need to search you bag(s), too! In fairness, we were NOT frisked nor required to pass through a metal detector. I've lived in Jacksonville for about 25 years now. I've shot at nearly every range in the city. At one point I was shooting twice a week for several years during my lunch hour. Since the first day I shot at OTS, I haven't used a single other indoor range. The facilities are top notch. It's cool in the summer. It's warm in the winter. The fees are very reasonable. The store has a good selection of some of the finest quality firearms for sale, and a decent selection of weapons for rent at, also, very reasonable prices. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable about their products, and professional. Unlike other ranges, their range officers are present, watchful and helpful at all times. I never feel it's unsafe to shoot there...something I can't say about all the other indoor ranges in town. Their training department is top notch as well. The Training Director, Scott Whigham, is a wealth of knowledge about self defense training techniques, to Florida and Federal gun law, to everything you want/need to know about most common (and even not so common) firearms and their accessories. My goto resource for gear, training and firearms locally. I highly recommend you try out this store for you next purchase and the range for you next training day. read more

I wanted to take some time to really get the full round trip experience before I wrote this review. I'm new to the world of pistol ownership so keep in mind that is the perspective I'll be writing from. Right from my first time waking in the staff made a great first impression - everyone was easily approachable and even though they were busy each staff member who walked by greeted me and asked if they could help with anything but weren't pushy or annoying. I made my purchase and let the fellow who checked me out know I was new to this. Without a moment's hesitation he walked me through disassembly and maintenance of the firearm. Afterwards he encouraged me to stop by and speak to anyone on staff if I have trouble or mechanical issues. Great experience overall. Later on I stopped by to use the range. After researching prices for memberships and what each range nearby had to offer, OTS was clearly head and shoulders above the rest. Still more friendly interactions with the staff. Safety is taken seriously but I wouldn't have it any other way. The staff member in the range greeted me warmly on entrance and walked me through the operation of the machinery and all of the safety rules. The range is understandably busy on the weekends, but if you live close enough to visit on a weeknight there is a significant chance you'll have no wait at all. Even if you can only make it during the weekend, should you choose to purchase a membership you'll be put in the "fast pass" line for a shorter wait. Basically this place is awesome. I attended the Ladies Basics Firearms class here. Staff: absolutely amazing! I am brand new to this and I felt super comfortable as soon as I walked in the door. Not only are they kind, but also professional and knowledgeable. Facility: awesome! It is clean, safe, has the classroom separate, a really nice lounge to relax/watch the range and there is so much to shop for (it was really cool). Class: they provided everything needed to feel comfortable and gain the basic knowledge around firearm handling, laws and practice - it was a lot for a very reasonable price Location: it is secluded, so just make sure you google map it, they put a bunch of signs so it was good but just be prepared that it's not in a shopping center (obviously that wouldn't work lol); no issue with parking I found a new hobby as a result of this welcoming, professional and friendly place! read more

I have driven past On-Target Sports numerous times during my trips up and down I-295. Today I decided to use the gun range for the first time. But what I experienced was the most incredible customer service that I have received all year! From the moment I walked in, the employees were respectful and exceptional at responding to my questions and concerns. Everyone went above and beyond to take care of me. I recently had a trigger put on a gun at another store, and today was the first time I was able to test it out. It turns out the other shop did not put it together correctly. While experiencing this malfunction, I asked Ryan and Andrew for help. Both guys were AWESOME. They went above and beyond to figure out the problem. They even took my pistol in the back and fixed the issue. I'll be back tomorrow to have them do some gunsmithing done on another gun! OTS is a very nice range with excellent staff and range masters. They also have a wide range of firearms and equipment for sale. I've shot on their range several times and have had very good experiences. With that in mind, I ran into a snag today. I wanted to get a red dot sighted in that I recently mounted to an AR pistol and was advised I couldn't shoot it on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. The reasoning was it's too loud for new or family shooters who come to the range on those days. I understand we want to grow the shooting sports through new and family shooters. Is there a way to do that without alienating other shooters on those days who do have louder firearms. Perhaps shooters with louder firearms could be put in the last range area that's divided by the door and new and family shooters with less noisy firearms could shoot in the entry range area. I hope you all can work something out. I left OTS today after learning of the change and will find another range to shoot my AR pistol today. read more

This is a really nice shooting range. My wife and I go target practice regularly and this is our favorite range. We have an annual membership here. The staff are always friendly, professional and very knowledgeable. The facility is always clean and I really like the fact that there is always a certified range safety officer supervising from behind the shooting lanes. This is a huge safety plus at this range. It greatly reduces the potential for misconduct or novice mistakes that could jeopardize the safety of any/all shooters. Another great offering is that they have a large selection of rental firearms. So if your considering something new you can test drive one before you actually buy it. Or you can rent a full auto for the fun of it and never have to clean it because you simply turn it in to OTS when your done. They do all my FFL transfers as needed and are an NFA dealer so they can handle class 3 transfers as well. read more

I came to On Target Sports with friends on a Saturday afternoon, around 1:30 pm. It was very crowded, considering that it started off as a rainy afternoon, so everyone was coming for indoor shooting. The parking lot is small, so be prepared to be waiting for a spot or doing tight turnarounds, since it is challenging to exit the parking lot from the back. However, we were able to find a good parking spot and walk in. Make sure all your guns and rifles are in cases, since they do not allow guns to be open carried in the parking lot. Once you come inside, you check in with the counter and have them check your magazines and clips, since steel-cased ammunition is not allowed to be shot at the range. If they do take the ammunition, they baggy it for you and hold it behind the counter until you check out and leave. You can buy ammunition here if you do not have the correct ammunition, however, be prepared to pay more than you would at a Dick's, Academy, or Shooters. The same goes for the merchandise. For several boxes of ammunition, range fees, and a case, for my boyfriend and I ended up paying over $250. Our friends, who brought the correct ammunition, only paid about $80 for the two of them. We were there for about 5 hours, and we got plenty of shooting in. We only had to rotate out once, and that was about an hour wait. The guys who monitor the range booths are highly trained and very helpful. My boyfriend's assault rifle jammed up, and they were quick to assist with fixing it with the correct tools and protocol. They came by to offer advice on proper gun technique and improvements upon your current shooting, which really helped out. Overall, we had a great time and I was able to try out my Glock that I had bought about 2 years ago and hadn't had a chance to shoot yet. Next time, we will make sure to bring the correct ammunition so it won't be as expensive a visit as this time. read more
