As a loyal member for the past 2 years, I will seriously think twice before renewing my membership next year. In fact, two of my friends have already decided not to renew theirs. There is an older gentleman in management who seems completely unhappy and shows zero hospitality or appreciation toward loyal members. The overall staff seems to have changed a lot recently too, and honestly, I can understand why they wouldn't want to stay in that kind of work environment. Even with a membership, the club has become overcrowded, oversaturated, and disorganized. It's clear this stems from management not valuing the loyal members who invest in the facility. I will be looking for another club--even if it's a bit further away--that can offer a much better experience and atmosphere. Disappointing. read more

Well organized shooting range that has areas for pistols and rifles and sporting clays for shotguns. You can buy ammo there too. Put your ear protection on when you arrive because it can get loud. We went inside to pay and the price was reasonable. Grab a scoring sheet on a clipboard before you get your golf cart. We took our golf cart to our car to fetch our shotguns and ammo. We started at station 1, there are 14 stations in all. There was a big variety of patterns of how the clays would be coming - 3 report pair standard or chondelle rabbit, 4 report pair standard, 5 report pair, .... Each station was challenging and fun! There is a magnet on a pole at each station and a container to put your empty shells. Please pick up after yourself! We had a fun afternoon and will be back! read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. This was our first visit to Saltwater Shooting Club, and it will absolutely be our last once we burn through the "range credit" they forced on us. We checked in to shoot our handguns for an hour. We were told it's first-come, first-served. No problem. There were only two groups ahead of us. But when our turn finally came after a 20-minute wait, a group of massive guys cut the line and demanded they go next. Unsurprisingly, it's a bit intimidating to argue with a group of large, aggressive men holding firearms. When I went to the shed to ask the staff for assistance in enforcing their own "first-come, first-served" rule, the kid in the booth completely blew me off and told me to "just work it out." A few minutes later, another bay opened up. Once again, another group cut right in front of us. When I asked the employee for help a second time, he gave me a completely useless response, claiming "James knows the order." When I asked where James was? "Oh, he's not here." They literally told us to just keep waiting in line while letting everyone walk all over us. The staff here is the rudest, most useless group of people of any business around. They completely ignored our safety and comfort, allowed other customers to intimidate my wife, and treated us like second-class citizens. To top it all off, when we demanded our money back to leave this circus, they refused a refund and would only give us Range Credit. They are literally holding our money hostage, forcing us to come back one more time. This place is only 5 miles from my house, and I would still happily drive 30 miles out of my way to Jacksonville just to avoid this trash dynamic. They have zero management, zero control over their safety or lines, and sub-zero customer service. Do not recommend to anyone. read more

Check in process is pretty easy and the price isn't bad. Could use some more bays - they do tend to get busy on the weekends. They rely on shooters communicating with each other to turn the rifle range cold - which can be intimidating for a novice shooter. Also, there should be some sort of number system for the next available shooting bay. Having to stake out a bay and hope no one cuts in line can be frustrating. read more

Had a great time shooting my wife's new gun here. My wife, three sons, and I took turns shooting guns at this outdoor range. It was great family time working on our shooting skills. One of the employees riding around on a cart stopped and gave my wife some free advise with her form. A little over a week later the same gentleman was the instructor for our concealed carry class. Great range for outdoors shooting. Very well organized Professional staff and help. 12 bays for range shoot with handguns. Separate areas for handguns , shotguns and rifles. There is target shooting with paper targets and also metal targets. Very well maintained ranges. $20.00 fee which is great as there is no time restrictions on your day. We started off at the handgun range and worked out way over to a separate area for shotguns and rifles for the last hour of training. Nice area for shooting pistols, rifles, or shotguns. Today was my first experience here. There was a line Saturday about 10 min till 9. If you are shooting on a weekend it's good to arrive early. Check in was fast. I was shooting Rifles today at both the 100 and 200 yard ranges. Both were well run and the people shooting were very respectful. Note the steel targets are only for .308 caliber and below. If you need the plastic cardboard type road signs to put your targets on they sell them for $6 each. You don't need more than a couple per bay as the group today was very open to calling range cold to change targets. Can't wait to try the shotgun course out and break some clays. Me and my buddies came here and it was a blast! Staff was great and there are soooo many different types of skeet throwers and shooting stations (we didn't even have enough shells to shoot at them all ). There were straightaways, sharp crossers, high angle risers, and fast drops at all different levels of difficulty. Each station felt like a new challenge in its own way. Overall we had a good time and I recommend even if you aren't experienced. read more

This place feels like a hidden gem. Outdoors, steel targets, food vendor, decently priced, no time limit, etc. There's definitely a lot of room for improvement though: - PLEASE add more pistol bays (this range sits on a lot of unused land) - Integrate some sort of number system like a deli while waiting for a pistol bay to open up (it can be very busy on weekends and some people have no problem skipping in front of you even though you've been waiting far longer than them) - Some employees need an attitude adjustment. This was my first visit to an outdoor range in the St. Augustine area. I came here with a small group of friends who wanted to practice with their new pistols and rifles. This range has a great location. It is a few miles north of downtown St. Augustine and is nicely secluded in the woods. The property was very well kept and clean, and there was plenty of parking. One thing I really liked about this range is how it separated different areas for shooting. There were several bays located closer to the front for short range shooting, in the back there are several bays for long range shooting and on a different side, a place to shoot sporting clays. You also had the option to shoot at paper or metal targets. However, if you prefer paper, make sure to bring some of your own! Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. It took only a few minutes to sign-up and pay the $20 fee for the day. I will definitely be back to this range! read more

GunDay = FunDay I decided to head out to Saltwater Shooting Club to try out this outdoor gun range for my weekend birthday celebration. Very thankful I did! This range has something for everyone. The range fee is $20 per person (with no time limit) for the Pistol/Riffle range. They do have yearly memberships available as well. They sell ammo at a responsible market price. They also have a selection of targets and shooting supplies that you may need. They have different ranges available for different distances all the way out to 700 yards (with qualification required). Shotgun skeet shooting is also available even archery! They have numerous range officers available to answer any questions and keep the range functioning in a safe manner. I was particularly impressed with their professionalism when I needed help adjusting my optics on all four of my rifles I brought with me. Customer service ALWAYS goes a long way with any business. They offer classes for first timers as well as conceal carry classes. A Refreshments stand is also available. I think I've definitely found my "Go To" outdoor range moving forward! The staff is abusive. Not just terrible service because, frankly, there's barely any service from them at all, but ABUSIVE. We have been there twice, and the second time, they asked us to leave after checking in and paying because, bottom line: their egos got hurt. How? We parked next to the check-in shed, and as we were getting out of the car, we were asked to move the car because that was staff parking (we had not seen any sign). So I got out of the car and told my husband I was going to get a headstart and start signing in and pay. My husband moved the car right away. I signed and paid for both of us and noticed he had been told to move again and he was moving the car yet again, I didn't know why. At that point I said to the guy in the check-in shed that we had to wait longer for my husband to come and sign because he was right next to us but he's being asked to move the car over and over again and that situation was just stupid. I walked across the check-in shed to stand in the shade and called my husband from my cellphone to let him know that he didn't need to bring anything as I had paid for it and I told him that he just needed to sign the paper and we could go. He said he would have been there sooner but was asked to move the car over and over again so I told him I knew and that it would have all been done by now and that was stupid. Well, suddenly this chest-puffed guy walks towards me, says he's the manager and says that we were not wanting to obey their rules and we were being asked to leave. He said I gave attitude to his staff and called them "meatheads" a word I never use. He said I called them "stupid" for telling my husband over the phone that the situation was stupid. This became an argument of fabricated lies on their part saying I said this and that, saying we didn't want to comply. All lies. He even said that they had to be concerned about attitude because they're surrounded by guns but yet completely fail to even vet anyone that goes shoot there! They don't even check ID! You check in with your payment and don't even ask for identification! No background check, no vetting of any kind. You could have a criminal next to you shotting right there beside you. So, the excuse of "safety" is yet another fabricated lie. Do they have the right to refuse service as a private facility? Absolutely. Do I have the right to be displeased with a situation and express it in a calm and non-threatening non-insulting way? Absolutely! Do I have the right to say whatever I want to my husband over the phone, especially when I had walked away from anyone? Absolutely yes! They want to run this facility like a military camp where they're the Army Generals and you have no freedom to talk or move in a way they disagree with and yet they act like middle school girls gossiping, fabricating lies and creating problems where there aren't any because their egos are hurt and they're too coward to say what really hurts them. This, however, does not justify the level of abusive behavior towards other civilians. May God grant them true love, growth, and healing because anyone can tell they desperately need it. We will never be back there and do not recommend anyone to put themselves at the risk of being like trash. read more

The place is not properly kept ( no trash from previous day is removed, which obviously brings all kinds of flies. This was my first visit to an outdoor range. I was down in Jacksonville visiting family and we wanted to go try my son's new AR. So we packed up the pistols and several long guns and drove here. It's secluded and has a great set up ... rifles in the back, pistols in the front, and even a specialty area for contests (I didn't completely understand that setup and we didn't visit that portion). It took us no time to get signed in and set up. There are only about a dozen bays for the long guns, with netting in between. There is a roof cover as well. Loved the sound of the shot followed by the "ping" of having hit the target. The pistol range was just as much fun, and in our bay, there was a barrel you could hide behind for "pretend" cover. Staff was very friendly, very helpful, even came out to congratulate this grandma on her decent shooting. I'm so glad we went, and had a wonderful time. Highly recommend! read more

The pistol range is a pit. 1) first time on site, couldn't go into the ammo shop because employee was outside selling from a table and said I couldn't go in w/out him present. 2)next time I tried to temporarily park close to pistol range table to unload and was told this was against the rules, had to move back immediately! 3) today I Couldn't drop my wife (a non-shooter) off first at one of the few pistol tables available while I paid at the office, because she had to come up first with me to sign in?? There are 3 shooting ranges in St. Augustine and they are all outdoors ranges: Ancient City, Friends of Police and Saltwaters. Ancient City and FOP are members only ranges. So, that leaves Saltwaters as the only local club to shoot for the public. I've shot at all three ranges. Saltwaters is $20 a day for the pistol range and I think rifle range too. It is an all day pass. So come in the morning, grab lunch, return in the afternoon. It also has a really great skeet setup (that I'd like to shoot, but I am far less competent in shotguns / clay shooting than pistoles). This is a bring your own stuff range. This includes eye protection (sunglasses are fine), your own ear muffs / ear plugs, your own paper targets and your own gun and bullets. If you are missing any of those, you are SOL. The pistol bays are not at all fancy, but they serve a purpose in how they are set up. Let me explain. What they provide is steel to shoot, which is incredibly fun, especially the falling plates. But if you ask nicely, they will bring a paper target stand to a stall so you can hang some paper up. I can shoot at steel all day. But I also need some paper targets to tune my accuracy. So this range is unique in that you are allowed to draw from a holster. This is incredibly important skill that most ranges will not allow you to do. I set up my stall so that I can shoot some steel, paper, and draw from a holster / mag changes. It's really great if you are into IDPA or USPSA for practice. It gives you that experience that you cannot get at an indoor range. Most ranges are very cramped, you are on top of another person, or shooting against a paper target in berm with multiple people. The Saltwaters setup allows for customization of the range for your pistol experience. I've never felt unsafe by other people at this range either, everyone is very respective to abide the all guns down range rule. The range officers are great and super informative. I feel like every time I go, I ask about membership updates. This range is close to me, and I want to shoot as often as possible... but I cannot afford $20 a day. So, there are some hiccups, but hopefully they will offer memberships early 2018. So I keep hoping, and maybe it'll happen. read more

Great place to shoot. Pistol, rifle, and shotgun ranges. Staff was very friendly and ranges were well maintained. Note, you must wear closed toe shoes. I would have given a 5-star but I was a bit perturbed because after trying the range out I wanted to purchase a membership, but upon asking them to apply my fees for the day to a family membership I was told they couldn't do it. pretty cool spot but definitely would not go on a weekend. We got there shortly after open at 10 AM and almost every day was taken. We ended up going to the rifle range where there was a few spots open. The steel silhouette targets at 100 yards out were pretty fun to shoot. This was my first time I had a gun range that had steel targets on the rifle range. We weren't even able to go to the pistol range because there were so many people. Will definitely be back to explore the rest of the range on a weekday after work. read more

First time at Saltwater Shooting Club and what a great experience! Very low key and perfect for a semi-novice like me. Chris was behind the counter and was really great at explaining everything. Great setup on the front Sporting Clays course since you can see most of the throwers. Back course has some long shots to start and will have to try the whole back course next time. Worst place ever.. There online pictures didn't look like what I saw. We where never told the rules until the little Dorf guy with the beard told us to get out. Say he were told the rules when we weren't told the any rules they where worried aboutwhat ammo we had. My father which is a Army vet was sitting down in a chair and the dorf guy came up behind him and started yelling at him when I'm the one that said something to him. Tried to get the little guy to calm down and talk but just wanted to yell at everyone. Got our money back and was packing up and he started yelling again about why are he still there.. I would like to know who the owner is and wonder if he knows. The place isn't clean, no one cleans up there brass or targets. But what I see from the reviews the little Dorf guy is a lot of the problems there. He most be the owner or thinks he's God. You have to buy old vote signs to hang your targets. read more

For the money and not having to be a member to shoot, this is a good spot to practice shooting skills. My game is sporting clays and have not shot handgun or rifle at Saltwaters. The owner should invest in a few signs directing customers as where to go, where to return golf carts and what the clubs protocol is for the guests who are not regulars and familiar with all the rules. I started shooting Saltwater Shooting Club in the summer of 2018 and I have found the place to be great. I shoot at the pistol range but mostly the rifle range. There are plenty pistol bays so that for the most part you will always find a spot to work your pistol skills. Several bays offer steel targets such as falling plate targets which is great fun. On the rifle range there are multiple bays that offer ranges out to 200 yards. All these bays are covered so that you can shoot in the shade, how nice is that? Each bay has a bench and there is also a bay to shoot prone. There are steel plates set up at 100 yards and at 200 yards. If you want to shoot paper you will have to bring your own targets or for a nominal cost the RSO can help you out. For those who like to stretch out the legs on your long range capable rifle there is an opportunity to shoot out to 770 yards. Steel targets are set up at 100 yard intervals out to the 770 yard hanging plate. One note here is that this range is only available based on appointment and shooting/marksmanship qualifications. The RSOs are very helpful and safety always comes first. read more

Contrary to some reviewers' experience, I found the range staff to be very friendly and helpful. Great range if you like the feeling of having to watch your back the whole time. Intended on coming here more often but I think I'll stick with ranges that have better trained staff. Too much freedom is given to shooters who don't even have enough experience to understand a clear chamber indicator. "RSO's" should have better control and professionalism for the safety of the range. read more
