I have never left a negative review before, and yet not only did I leave this one on Google, but I made a Yelp account to review here, as well, because people deserve to know what the proprietors are like when they aren't serving champagne and getting in their customer's good graces. I recommend reading other negative reviews. Ours wasn't nearly as bad as some others.
Earlier today (03/27/2026, around 4:30) my friend and I visited Dentelle. We were first met by a woman who politely greeted us from her seated position as she worked on attaching a corset piece to a hanger (this becomes only slightly relevant later). We proceeded to admire the selection, slowly making our way around the store and quietly commenting to each other here and there. Not long after, one of the owners--Paul, as I hear it--walked in, and rather than greet us, the first thing he did was treat my childhood friend like an idiot.
It started benignly enough. At the time, she had been looking at a sheer purple top and told me how much she loved it. Paul commented that it "matches with the one* next to it". (*A purple bra in the same shade, of which there were no other matching pieces.) I looked over my shoulder at this, and after she politely and cheerfully agreed that she noticed that, he walked up behind her and added, "They're the same color".
I could tell he was just trying to make a sale, but by that point I was already blown away by his audacity. I could tell my friend was, too, but she humored him and simply said that they were lovely together and she wished she could, but her bank account wouldn't be happy about it. In a way I can't possibly articulate through text, he asked her, "Well, what's stopping you?" She had basically just told him, but all the same she then plainly said that she couldn't afford both. He then took a few steps back and began quipping at her every minute or less that we were there, even after my wife joined us.
The woman behind the desk spent this time pretending to look busy with the same single piece of lingerie. She was unfolding and refolding it, clipping and unclipping it to its hanger, until finally we drifted over to the shop's right hand wall and she pushed past us. (See, not very relevant, other than her complicity in the situation and generally giving a bad impression regarding customer service and work ethic, as well as the owners' values. They get paid how much to do this, but treat customers they deem "too poor" like garbage? Okay.)
My friend made her way there first, and Paul laughed at her and told her that she didn't need to "even bother going over there" if she "couldn't even afford the other stuff. This is the really good stuff." I moved to join my friend, and we both looked, regardless. Annoyed, I began to tune him out, until my friend told him that her sugardaddy was in Vegas. He paused, then told her to call him right then. She declined, and we walked out.
I'm really sanitizing this experience in my retelling, but it was outrageous that he, in no uncertain terms, made it VERY clear that my friend was not welcome. I was largely ignored, and I suspect that it was because of how I dressed, looked, and sounded.
Needless to say, any interest in this shop is long gone. Steer clear if you value people who value others and their time--because all Paul seems to care for is how much money you can put into his bank account.
To the owners, since I've seen a pattern in your replies:
I am not interested in having our experience being refuted or gaslit. I am not even interested in insincere apologies, though I've seen nothing of the like so far to anyone else who has suffered similar treatment. Do not bother replying. read more
