landed in Milwaukee around 2:00 after what felt like the longest day of travel ever. got a car, got a room, got ahold of Chris and got over here... good call! interesting little tavern not too far from the airport and I'm kinda bummed that it was pitch black at 6:00 so no pictures outside. inside is all timelessness and understatement full up with mid century midwestern style and charm. there was a few open stools at the bar when we arrived but otherwise we had our choice of seating. took a small table off the bar for chitting, chatting, and catching up. Nadine came out to say hi and brought menus and water, Chris asked for a brandy old fashioned to compliment a patty melt and o' rings, I was wiped so asked the bartender to do me up an "old guy drink" - brandy Manhattan (which I would never have guessed but this is Wisconsin, and that's how they roll) paired well with the Italian burger plus fries... we was yapping and squawking and laughing and carrying on when our cocktails came out all fancy with garnish and grenadine (but no pictures because we was more intent on visiting) and our sammiches came out a little later to a similar response. seriously, it all looked fabulous and ate well and the folks in the kitchen did a great job but it's been years since we'd sat down face-to-face so that took precedence over pictures of food. anyway, we each got about half way through before calling for a box (can hardly wait until I'm hungry again so I can eat!) patty melt medium on dark rye with rings that were very recently actual onions but currently exist battered and fried golden brown and delicious... my italian was cheese and red sauce on sausage patty on a beef patty plus some sliced pepperoni on a roll of substance - still good out of the fridge going into my lunchbox in the morning and eats good cold around noon at work. pretty sure I'll be back before I leave town :-)

Since I'm a fan of the beer and burger bar lunch I stopped here for lunch. The place is a beautiful building and the friendly bar tender said it was built in 1903 and is virtually untouched for the most part. The interior is absolutely beautiful with tons of nice wood, tile arches, wood bar, fireplace, leaded glass windows and cool wood panel walls. The place has a nice bar and dining area with a parking lot in back. They have a few taps with a mix of domestic and non dominant and I ordered something dark. The restaurant menu is typical for a bar/restaurant with an all you can eat fried cod fish fry on Friday from 4-8pm. I was going to do the basic burger with cheddar cheese with frys that comes with fresh tomato, lettuce, red onion and pickles. The cheeseburger looked and smelled good with fresh toppings was my first thought. The cheeseburger was cooked medium with a good grill taste and juicy on a nicely toasted bun. The cheeseburger was tasty with the fresh toppings and hit the spot but the frys were not as good as the cheeseburger because they were like hard and dry with skin on.

Neighborhood bar about 1 mile from Mitchell airport in Milwaukee. All the bars and restaurants at MKE were closed so we looked up nearby bars and found this little Gem. Very good for food and a full bar. Special for the night was fried chicken and prime rib sandwiches. They also had wings and other appetizers. The bar had four TVs all with different sporting events on. My wife and I both ordered hamburgers and fries. Both were very good and the service was excellent. Bartender was very friendly. When in town we will definitely return.

Quick service very friendly staff. I thought the food was surprisingly good...I assumed it was just a bar before we walked in so my expectations were low. The burgers were great, the hand cut fries were also delicious. Also appreciated that they were still serving late(just after 8pm).

LOL bet you can't guess I'm in Green Bay Packer land

Found this little gem on the way to the airport returning home after a long week. Sure am glad I stopped and can't wait to return. I had a few hours to kill but had already ate lunch so just few drinks and catch up on emails was the plan. Great character in this place!! Believe it was built as a cocktail bar in the 1900s and lots of the beauty is still present. I was able to grab a bar stool right in the middle and had the absolute pleasure of hearing Robert the owner interact with the regulars and his vendors as they came through. I could sit hear all day and listen to his stories!! I only had 2 hours but enjoyed every minute! He offered up food several times and as my stay and drinks extended he did take me into some wings. Garlic parm was the recommended flavor and they were awesome!! Can't wait to come back for a lunch or dinner next time. Bonus score it was a restaurant week of sorts for the area so I qualified for a $10 discount!! I didn't have the coupon or website invite nor did I know anything about it but Robert did and applied it!! Wow that is great service!!! Of course I just paid it forward in the tip :-)

**July 2025: Wednesday Lunch Visit**…read more While I was researching iconic food in Wisconsin I came across an item called Butter Burger which sounded so decadent and delicious. My friend and I were only exploring Milwaukee for a day so we wanted to make sure that we picked a good spot to try this region favorite. AJ Bombers came up consistently ranked on top for really great burgers. We came on a weekday so parking was pretty easy, but it is metered street parking. The restaurant is located at the corner of a large building and since we arrived right at opening we were seated right away. We ordered the following -Cheese Curds $9 - These were delicious. Nice and crispy, almost had an airfried texture to it so it tasted healthier than others that I've tried -Bomb Butter Burger $14 - The meat was very juicy and overall a good burger -Milwaukee Burger $12.50 - This was a fantastic burger and I think I preferred this to the Bomb Butter Burger. The flavors were more balanced IMHO -Tater Tots and Fries: The burgers all came with a side and I enjoyed both! They were freshly fried and served hot. The tots made me feel really nostalgic since those were things I remember eating growing up. The unfortunate news is that this restaurant despite all the accolades will be closing later in 2025. It's served Milwaukee for 16 years and while I'm bummed that they'll be closing their doors later this year I'm glad that I got enjoy one of Milwaukee's best. If you get a chance to check them out their decor also has a lot of personality.

I haven't been in years, but it was sad to see that they don't give out peanut like they used to and they were not all over the floor. There was a singular waitress there but she was nice and checked in on us. I ordered the Milwaukee Burger. I loved the onions on it and added tomato to it. I thought the burger itself was ok. Not too much flavor, I wish it was a little more pink. It would've been better if the bun was more toasted as well. I ordered onion rings, fried pickles, and cheese curds. Cheese curds and onion rings were really good, but the frickles were huge and every time I would take a bite the pickle would come out of the batter and I would be stuck with the plain batter alone. Overall loved the ambiance and I was miss Aj Bombers and its history.

It was absolutely massive, loaded with cheese, ridiculously rich, and every bite was delicious. The cheesy bacon cracks were downright obscene in the best possible way. Pure indulgence. I enjoyed all the sports decor and memorabilia on the walls. Right off the bat, one of the things that stood out to me was how incredibly affordable this place was! Looking at the prices, I was surprised that you could get a burger here for around twelve bucks including fries. That's like fast food prices. Most restaurants charge way more than that and don't include fries, so this place is an amazing bargain! We got their cheese balls, which were cheese curds. These were not bad. I do prefer a more beer battered curd, but I didn't mind these. I also got a bacon cheeseburger called The Loser. In reality, it tastes like a winner. The bread bun is amazing, so soft and fresh. The burger is juicy and flavorful. It's also not too crazy big where all the toppings fall apart. The fries were also crispy and tasty. Our server was also very kind and attentive. She gave us sugar cookies at the end of our meal, which was a nice treat. Overall, I enjoyed coming here. I would come here again to catch a game and enjoy a drink and some bites. You get a decent burger that is also a good bang for your buck.

Saw this place on the walk back to our car and stopped in for a couple drinks and some appetizers. We were very happy we did. We sat at the bar and it was fairly empty at the time, which was a Thursday around 1pm. The bar is so beautiful with all of the copper details. It feels very clean with an upscale look but doesn't feel like it's too fancy to stop in on a regular day. Our bartender was awesome and she was training a new person that day so she was happy when we chose some fun cocktails for the newbie to make. Our favorite was the Beet Marshall. Oh my gosh is this a delicious cocktail! Unique too! Very refreshing, light. And fantastic color! My partner tried the Rhubarb Negroni which was also very good but we both decided Beet Marshall was the winner! We had the fresh pork rinds for an appetizer, came out sizzlin and poppin! Yes!! We also had the Cajun dill curds they were really good, not too heavy with just enough seasoning. I think this place is a great spot to check out anytime! They had tvs at the bar so sports fans could see their favorite games while enjoying a drink and some food. The locals at the bar seemed like they knew everyone and that this was the place to gather.

Nestled among a lively stretch of bars and restaurants, it has a fun atmosphere that makes it easy to settle in for a few hours. I stopped by during March Madness, and despite it being the middle of the day, the place was buzzing with fans watching the tournament. The bartender--who was the only one working at the time--did a phenomenal job keeping up with the crowd. While drinks occasionally took a little longer, she handled the rush with professionalism and a great attitude. One thing that really stood out was the bar itself; it's impressively long, possibly the biggest I've seen in a venue of this size. The food was exactly what you want from a sports bar: satisfying, flavorful, and the perfect complement to an afternoon of college basketball. I'd definitely stop back to watch another game.

While other restaurants in the district had hour and a half plus waits, we practically owned the place sitting wherever we liked. On event days they have a reduced menu. As they were slow, the kitchen gracefully allowed us to place a regular menu Crustless Grilled Cheese with Tomato Bisque order for our kiddo. I ordered the LP Burger with bacon ($14 + $2.5 - double smash, sharp american cheese, shredded lettuce, fresh tomato, shaved red onion, LP sauce, potato roll) and my wife ordered the Potato Chip Crusted Chicken Sammy ($12 - honey mop glaze, mayo, shredded lettuce and pickles). The bar has a fair amount of good bourbons and at decent prices for being in the deer district, such as the double neat pour of Stagg I had. There was one bartender/server for the place, but she knew how to hustle while still being super friendly. The interior could use some art on the walls, but is bright and clean otherwise. The food was delicious and presented very well. That bacon I paid extra for? Oh my goodness. Thick cut, perfectly cooked, so dang good. Usually I regret adding bacon but here it is a must. My 8-year-old kiddo, who is practically a vegetarian at this point, devoured her grilled cheese and half of the big bowl of soup. I never even saw my wife's chicken sammy, so you know it was good when it goes down that fast. Thankfully as our food arrived the place started to fill, as they deserve to be filled! I want to come back on a non-event day to try the shrimp poboy, their house dry rub wings, as well as on the weekend for their brunch.
