I've been meaning to stop here for years and finally got here. What a neat place. The original wood adds a nice ambiance. We were there on a very warm Spring day. They had the beautiful old windows open and we had a nice breeze coming in. They also had a nice patio outside! The bartender doubled as our waitress and she was great! Calm atmosphere, awesome traditional pub vibe with wood in every corner, none of this "modern" styling bs, with gentrified styling and harsh sharp corners. I got 2 mango tangos before i saw i needed to fix my flights and eventually stay another night. Local regulars come in, good friendly atmosphere and staff. (Which they are hiring and seems they need a couple dependable peeps) I will say the second drink seemed a bit weaker, and I'm not a big drinker so i noticed fairly quickly. Maybe it was the amount of ice? Either way i wanted a third drink, but life happens and i had to leave immediately. They have Perch on their menu. We asked if it was lake perch and were told it was. When we got our food it is most definitely not lake perch. What they are serving is ocean perch. The manager told us their sales rep is getting these big pieces of perch for them instead of the little butterflies they used to get. That is what lake perch is small fillets. Fish was not good. Hand cut frys are not good tiny pieces overcooked in dirty oil The old fashioned has so much ice there was no room for alcohol. We were in Milwaukee for a bike ride and decided to turn it into a long weekend. The day after the ride we decided to bike here from our place in Bayview. Normally a fairly easy ride, but my legs were tired and after the inclines all the way there, I was hoping it was worth it. It was. The place was pretty empty when we arrived, so the bartender had time to chat. I expected this would be regular bar food and was pleasantly surprised to hear they hand make as much of the menu as they can. The space itself is also cool with a lot of history. We came because my husband was craving a good burger. What did he get? The broasted chicken. He said it was amazing, especially with their hot sauce. I got the veggie burger Mexican style and it was good, as were the handcut fries. Perfectly salted. We would come back, the food and hospitality were great. read more

landed in Milwaukee around 2:00 after what felt like the longest day of travel ever. got a car, got a room, got ahold of Chris and got over here... good call! interesting little tavern not too far from the airport and I'm kinda bummed that it was pitch black at 6:00 so no pictures outside. inside is all timelessness and understatement full up with mid century midwestern style and charm. there was a few open stools at the bar when we arrived but otherwise we had our choice of seating. took a small table off the bar for chitting, chatting, and catching up. Nadine came out to say hi and brought menus and water, Chris asked for a brandy old fashioned to compliment a patty melt and o' rings, I was wiped so asked the bartender to do me up an "old guy drink" - brandy Manhattan (which I would never have guessed but this is Wisconsin, and that's how they roll) paired well with the Italian burger plus fries... we was yapping and squawking and laughing and carrying on when our cocktails came out all fancy with garnish and grenadine (but no pictures because we was more intent on visiting) and our sammiches came out a little later to a similar response. seriously, it all looked fabulous and ate well and the folks in the kitchen did a great job but it's been years since we'd sat down face-to-face so that took precedence over pictures of food. anyway, we each got about half way through before calling for a box (can hardly wait until I'm hungry again so I can eat!) patty melt medium on dark rye with rings that were very recently actual onions but currently exist battered and fried golden brown and delicious... my italian was cheese and red sauce on sausage patty on a beef patty plus some sliced pepperoni on a roll of substance - still good out of the fridge going into my lunchbox in the morning and eats good cold around noon at work. pretty sure I'll be back before I leave town :-) read more

Since I'm a fan of the beer and burger bar lunch I stopped here for lunch. The place is a beautiful building and the friendly bar tender said it was built in 1903 and is virtually untouched for the most part. The interior is absolutely beautiful with tons of nice wood, tile arches, wood bar, fireplace, leaded glass windows and cool wood panel walls. The place has a nice bar and dining area with a parking lot in back. They have a few taps with a mix of domestic and non dominant and I ordered something dark. The restaurant menu is typical for a bar/restaurant with an all you can eat fried cod fish fry on Friday from 4-8pm. I was going to do the basic burger with cheddar cheese with frys that comes with fresh tomato, lettuce, red onion and pickles. The cheeseburger looked and smelled good with fresh toppings was my first thought. The cheeseburger was cooked medium with a good grill taste and juicy on a nicely toasted bun. The cheeseburger was tasty with the fresh toppings and hit the spot but the frys were not as good as the cheeseburger because they were like hard and dry with skin on. read more

My wife loved the Wisconsin Patty Melt, which included bacon and extra cheeses on the traditional patty melt sandwich. My Buffalo Chicken Wrap was also very good. Everyone agreed the hand-cut french fries were fantastic. 3 star rating is for painfully slow service, including a "vodka & seltzer" that took about 30 minutes to receive, and numerous mixups in food and beverage orders that took time to straighten out. We spent over 3 hours at our table, so it's not a place to grab a quick bite before a concert. But overall, the food and drinks were good, everyone in our party had a fun time, and the ambiance is vintage with old beer signs, woodwork, and stained glass windows. I will give this classic Milwaukee Tavern another try soon. read more

Neighborhood bar about 1 mile from Mitchell airport in Milwaukee. All the bars and restaurants at MKE were closed so we looked up nearby bars and found this little Gem. Very good for food and a full bar. Special for the night was fried chicken and prime rib sandwiches. They also had wings and other appetizers. The bar had four TVs all with different sporting events on. My wife and I both ordered hamburgers and fries. Both were very good and the service was excellent. Bartender was very friendly. Friday fish fry is delicious. You can't go wrong with either the perch or the walleye. The homemade potato pancakes are delicious with a bit of apple sauce. The atmosphere is a step back in time with all the stained glass, wood and decor. It had been a few years and thought we would check out the fish fry selection. Our nephew and his wife joined us having relocated from Myrtle Beach to the area for job opportunities. This was on their list of places to visit. Warmly welcomed with an overview of offerings and what they were noted for. Our waitress was attentive and quickly took our beverage order. Unfortunately my nephew was served the incorrect beer, his wife encouraged him to try it. Clam chowder was acceptable and pleased one diner who ordered it. One tried the traditional fish fry, while three others had baked cod. We considered meals average as baked cod was a bit chewy as we know tough to get accurate. French fries were plentiful but not hot. Potato pancakes sadly were not drained properly after cooking. Maybe other menu items are worth the visit but our experience ended disappointing. read more

Found this little gem on the way to the airport returning home after a long week. Sure am glad I stopped and can't wait to return. I had a few hours to kill but had already ate lunch so just few drinks and catch up on emails was the plan. Great character in this place!! Believe it was built as a cocktail bar in the 1900s and lots of the beauty is still present. I was able to grab a bar stool right in the middle and had the absolute pleasure of hearing Robert the owner interact with the regulars and his vendors as they came through. I could sit hear all day and listen to his stories!! I only had 2 hours but enjoyed every minute! He offered up food several times and as my stay and drinks extended he did take me into some wings. Garlic parm was the recommended flavor and they were awesome!! Can't wait to come back for a lunch or dinner next time. Bonus score it was a restaurant week of sorts for the area so I qualified for a $10 discount!! I arrived at 2pm on a Friday and it was not overly crowded which is very nice. We were welcomed immediately upon arrival from an extremely friendly guy who happens to be the owner. There is parking on the street as well as in the back. Keep in mind there is one reserved spot for a tenant who lives upstairs I'm assuming. I purchased the Groupon deal, or else I probably would have never stumbled on this place while staying in Milwaukee. There is a clear sign near the door that advises you that alcohol is not included in the deal. The same man who greeted us also came over right away and asked what we wanted to drink, explained the menu, and offered multiple suggestions for what they are famous for. We tooK his suggestions and ordered the garlic Parmesan boneless wings, classic Mac, and the big guy with fries. The overall ambience of this place is very 'bar like' but not in a trashy way! What else would you expect from a place called on the clock BAR and grill haha. There is plenty of seating and room for standing during the busy hours. Onto the food! The burger was fairly standard but very good. The fries were OUTSTANDING!! The Mac and cheese was incredibly underwhelming.. legit no flavor at all. It was creamy but tasted like.. nothing? The wings had a good texture but the sauce was, different? Maybe peppery? All in all it's an awesome little spot and the owner really goes above and beyond for his customers it seems. It's been awhile since I've done a review because nothing has "wowed" me in awhile. But this place is phenomenally good! Cute and clean with excellent service as well! I should have gotten pictures but didn't think I would be doing a review. First off, the wings are perfect. Crispy and lightly sauced, not smothered. Excellent flavor and many sauce choices! Come in choice of 6 or 12 and 6 was perfect to share. We both had burgers and they are huge. But the best part is that you can tell they are made fresh and weren't frozen. One of the best burgers I've had in Milwaukee. I know fresh cut fries with the skin on aren't for everyone, but they're my personal fave and I was ecstatic to see a place doing this! I'm really impressed with this place! I recently bought a Groupon for this restaurant and decided to give it a try. My friends and I had a fantastic dining experience. Our waitress was wonderful! She was so friendly and very knowledgeable about all the different food items and beverages. We of course started out with some handcrafted cocktails. They muddle their old fashions and it was absolutely fantastic! They have some really fun drinks on their cocktail menu as well we tried a raspberry and lime drink that was quite delicious. We started off with some appetizers and we popped in on Wednesday night which is 50 Cent wing night. The food was amazing! For my entrée I decided to get the cheeseburger Mac which just blew me away! The rich and creaminess of the sauce the delicious ground beef and I added sautéed onions, mushrooms, tomatoes and black olives. My friend enjoyed the wings and they have many sizes to choose from. The menu offered a lot of fantastic options for dinner from homemade soups and salads too amazing pizza and burgers. I can't wait to go back again! The pizza looked amazing so that will most likely be my next dinner choice. If you've never been I highly recommend you give this place a try! The service was great. Worth the visit! I always try to find the places that have great bar burgers. This place did not disappoint. Delicious burgers! I choose the BBQ Cheddar Burger (had me at cheddar). Onion rings, bacon, bbq on a delicious burger! Service was great. The ambiance is great! Right up my alley... brick, wood, a solid older establishment that's been around for a while and the customers are friendly and pleasant... real good experience here. The only thing I'll pick on is the fries. You might want to swap the fries for one of the other options. read more

There is so much room for improvement here when it comes to the food. The staff, great. Ease of calling ahead to say a group was coming in, easy breezy. The atmosphere inside, very nice. The one problem with the inside of the place (aside from the food) was that it was freezing cold in February. We asked to have the fireplace turned on (thinking it was electric and would radiate heat) and so the worker, maybe owner turned it on. Ah.... just for show folks. Keep on freezing! The food... where to start. I really want to write a better review but having a few decent food items is not freaking hard to do. Out of the norm, I was in the mood for a burger. I liked all of the options and the gluten free options and drink specials, etc. So, when I saw a turkey burger available, I got a little excited as I haven't had one in a long time. I made the error of forgetting to ask before ordering if the burgers (beef or turkey) were made fresh (and though I saw something to that affect in the menu??). Anyways, I forgot. This is why I ask things before I order. People call it complicated. This is an example of not wanting to put over-priced and gross food in my body and I have every single right to ask several questions!! The turkey burger was a frozen patty. Terrible. The frozen patty processed burger had numerous inedible flakes/pieces in it that I had to keep picking out of my mouth. Some had a paper consistency, others a grizzle consistency. #regret I just don't understand why it would be difficult to season and shape into a patty fresh ground turkey patties, put them in the freezer and them cook them on the grill to order. Estimate how many you'd need in a week. If you run out, that is the chance you take for offering good, fresh food!!! 1,000 times worth it. A member of our group ordered the boneless wings. It's a really bad sign when a server delivers them to your table with the verbal caveat "let me know if these will work or not" kind of comment. Dear God, never ever deliver food to a customer if you have the slightest sense that it's not up to par. Why? Instead of 6 wings there were 5 and the comment that I was given was that they were hockey puck hard and inedible. Other guests in our party had the bone-in wings and beef patty burger. No one was excited about what they were served and I felt that I let them down for suggesting the place. I'd come for drinks or maybe cheese sticks. The place is cute. But why why why serve bad food? 3 stars for friendly customer service, ease of getting them to reserve a table, nice look and feeling inside and drink specials. ($5 mimosa served in a pint glass w ice, $5 bloody - didn't try) -2 stars for no one liking their food, and as a matter of fact a few of us having to make constructive criticisms and send the food back and uncomfortably cold inside. Probably one of my least favorite places in a long time... The moment you walked in, the place REAKED of cigarettes it was almost like you couldn't even breathe so we took the table in the back... The waitress didn't come out for almost 20 minutes. The Mac and cheese is literally water Mac. After added a bunch of shredded cheese.... It was still water I had to come home and doctor it up to even make it edible. The wings were so dry they were hard to bite. The ranch is so nasty and they charge you .50 for each ranch after the first so in total I got 3... I was not eating my food. I was asking for things to make it better & the server didn't move fast & honestly just didn't care. Didn't ask how anything was. I gave her back the 2 extra ranch's and told her I didn't touch them because they don't taste anything like ranch. Still charged me for them & I felt like I had a head high leaving from how bad the smell was... The bartender seemed nice even tho she didn't greet us and just watched us sit there for 20 minutes before the server came out... From the horrible smell, the horrible service & the horrible food... After coming across a photo of their nachos...I knew I had to see if they really were as good as their "PROFILE PIC" - Today I finally caved and ordered the Nachos for pick up,and I'm so glad I did! The Nachos were fully loaded BEEFY & CHEESY as they should be!! The meat was flavorful and moist- everything was evenly distributed throughout. I went here with my sister on a Saturday, and it was not busy in the afternoon. For an appetizer we opted for the Spinach & Artichoke dip, with homemade pita chips; the dip had a cheesy taste and we both enjoyed that. Both of us ordered the Crispy Buffalo Chicken Wrap, which came with a yummy side of fries for our entree. You can also order it as a salad, but it said it came with iceberg lettuce, which isn't my favorite as I prefer spinach or a romaine. The wrap wasn't too thick and had a good texture...the buffalo sauce on the chicken definitely had a spicy kick, although it was listed as mild. I would recommend asking for a side or two of ranch. On to the service, I had a Groupon that was good for Monday-Thursday (oops!) but it was honored anyway, our server was the owner himself! It appeared the restaurant and bar were being run by him alone. The only drawback with my experience was that our waters were not given a refill, and the service could have been more attentive in asking how things were and receiving the bill. read more

The hockey puck-like pancakes were too dense for me and also had big chunks of onions in them. Our waitress was sweet and took good care of us. Ordered delivery, so can't comment of the service, but it got here in a decent amount of time. We got the mild, boneless wings. They were decent. And also got the rueben and bacon cheeseburger, both with fries. They use sliced bread for the burger and for both the sandwiches, the breads were very soggy and had to be thrown away. Everything else was pretty average overall. Okay for late night food, but probably wouldn't order again if I had other options. read more
