Robin sold a dog to a rich family with 2 toddlers and an agreement with that the family they would bring the dog in to be trained when they were in Camarillo Southern California. When the toddlers had a hard time with the puppy the owners gave her to a trainer, let's call in Joe, living with us through COVID-19. We mistakenly thought she was given to Joe due to the issues with the kids. As a "treat" booked her a herding appointment with Robin. Not knowing the history, we showed up with Rai (that's what they called her, not what we knew her by). Robin was flanked by Rachel and Megan. They used us to test her herding instincts as she listened to us. Then they flipped her over onto her back to make sure she was not spayed. Then they stole her. Yep. You read that right. They took the dog away, pulled out a bunch of papers and stole the dog that very day. I broke down screaming and begging for the dog and Robin lied and lied. Meghan was gone and Rachel seemed to think God was helping them in their thievery or " why would she have come back to them" . Unethical idiots were the only one within driving distance for herding playing. There was no divinity involved but those 3 may be shaking hands with the devil. So if you want to work with some pretty unethical people, On The Lamb is the place to go. They'll break your heart, no questions asked. read more

First of all, I have never been to On The Lamb. I am a Dog trainer, montecitodog.com, and I refer every shepherding dog owner to On The Lamb. I have seen amazing results with dogs that were so emotionally unstable that I did not know what to do next for the client. Elsa is/was a Border collie who chased imaginary butterflies in the backyard and could not walk around the corner on a leash. She returned to Santa Barbara from one visit to On the lamb a whole new being. She was able to meet and work with sheep for the first time in her life. I'm certain it was the first time she ever saw sheep. She came home knowing her purpose in the universe. From that point on all the issues we struggled so hard to overcome, simply melted away day by day. The last time I spoke to the client they were visiting once a month for Elsa to manage her flock. It was amazing. If you have a herding breed and you don't know what to do next, I highly recommend you call the folks at on the lamb. You won't be disappointed. I hope to get a break in my busy training schedule to meet them myself some day. read more

TL DR: our sheepdog had an amazing time, well worth the trip! For anyone looking to provide a great outlet and experience for their dog, especially if they are herding dogs, I highly recommend bringing them to this beautiful ranch in Camarillo. Rachel provided us a fantastic herding lesson for our 2 year old puli, who had the time of their life learning how to run and interact with sheep. Rachel explained using action figures how herding training works, showed our dog how to do it, and then tested him in the ring to see if he had herding instinct. It was so cute, afterwards they gave our dog a herding certificate certifying the presence of instinct, and Rachel outlined next steps to take if we wanted our dog to get fully certified in herding. The whole experience occurred amidst a beautiful countryside, and lasted about 1-2 hours, with friendly trainers who really know their stuff. A very knowledgable and fun instructor. For myself who knew nothing about herding, she broke all the skills down so it was easier to understand. With my two dogs who have very different personalities, Robin's skills and techniques helped me understand and appreciate herding all together. This was a really fun experience for both the humans involved and the pup. I took my dad here (as a birthday gift) and our families border collie/springer spaniel mix to see if his border collie instincts would translate to herding (they did). Robin was fantastic and kind and the setting is pretty beautiful (lovely ranch tucked into the hills). After our lesson we were invited to see some newborn lambs and other animals on the property. Honestly our doggy was so excited and happy throughout and met several of the stock dogs all of whom were super friendly (tails were wagging all over the place). It was like taking a little kid to Disney land for the first time. Plus as a bonus we got to see a cardigan corgi herding sheep which nearly killed us all with cuteness. Down the road right by where you exit the freeway there's a cafe that was very dog friendly where we went to lunch afterwards. Overall it was a pretty great day. read more

Fun and unique experience. Rachel was a terrific instructor for me and my 2 year old cocker mix, Budley. It took Budley a while to get a sense of chasing the sheep, but towards the end of our session he seemed to be catching on. Rachel was happy to talk about the various breeds of herding dogs during Budley's rest breaks. We will come back in a few months for another session. Robin runs such a fantastic herding facility. I'm a pet care professional (MrPackMan.LA) with very high standards. I take big groups of dogs on adventures, such as hikes. A little over a year ago, as my number of clients with herding breeds grew, I decided to find an outlet for them for that instinct. I researched carefully and checked out in person every herding trainer in SoCal. Robin stood out far above the others. Not only does she have way more experience than the others and quite the resume, but she's also a gifted teacher and will make a winning handler out of any interested dog owners. I take a group to her once or twice a month and always run into other happy clients of hers, many who have been coming a long time and who have told me amazing stories of their dogs' transformations. Even if you don't intend for your dog to be a working ranch dog, herding is not only an enjoyable outlet for its energy but can work wonders for your dog emotionally and behaviorally. Though herding is an instinct, there is an art to brining that instinct out and shaping it, and herding is a skill that can be highly developed with proper training, so it's very important that you find the proper trainer for your dog. My wife and I took Daisy - a rescue who looks like a Briard though Robin thinks she's got a lot of Bearded Collie - to On the Lamb for an "instinct test," and she showed herself to be a natural. If you have a herding breed and want to learn about working stock I highly recommend you set up an instinct test or book a lesson with Robin. She will show you how to bring the best out of your dog and teach you how to be a team. On the Lamb has great life stock, sheep for every level from beginner to expert. You can do this just for fun or go all the way, training toward competitions and titles. As a bonus, the facility is easy to get to, the setting is beautiful AND it is up to 20 degrees cooler than the SFV throughout the summer! read more

Such a great place to take your dogs! I took my Aussie here and it was such an amazing experience. They give you one on one attention so you don't have to share your time with other dogs which was great and the place was so easy to get to.
