I absolutely hate this place. They are one of the few dance stores around and many of the local dance studios are affiliated with them for costumes and dance wear. I have a four-year-old who does ballet and tap and I have had three very poor experiences with them to say the least. Their return policy is absolutely ludicrous. The first poor experience was last year when they had to get their costumes for dance class. They were running late on them and told us they would call them as soon as they came in. They never called any of us, so for over half the season the kids did not have the dance costumes that we paid for. The second incident occurred when my mom purchased a pink tu-tu for My daughter. She did not like it and didn't wear it, but my mom had misplaced the receipt. It still had the tag on it, but the store would not accept the return or give credit. She was over $30 out. The third incident was in getting tap shoes. After purchasing them in the store with a professional who examined her fit, she wore them only one time for twenty minutes of her tap/ballet combo class and complained of them being too tight and hurting her feet. The teacher advised me that they were too tight. When I tried to exchange within two weeks, for one size up, and had a receipt to go with it, the front desk clerk advised me that I could not return them because she wore them. When I asked how a four-year-old is supposed to be accountable for analyzing the fit of her shoe in 5 min at the store without any returns, she advised that they have experienced professionals fitting shoes and that if she has issues with the way the tap shoe fits, maybe tap isn't for her. If I can avoid this place in the future I will... Had to share my experience for others out there. AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE. While they do post their return policy, it is very unreasonable. We do not live close to the store and it's a huge trek to get to. read more

Good selection of products but terrible return policy. To their credit, they do disclose their return policy but since they are not around the corner from us and we have a busy family with lots of kids, getting back in 2 weeks is pretty difficult. Additionally the best they offer in that period for unused products is a store credit and exchanges on shoes. I spoke with the manager / owner on this and the only thing she told me was that this has been their policy for 30 years. I appreciate that, but as a parent with a busy family I will have to first consider purchasing products anywhere else before here simply due to this really consumer unfriendly return policy. It would have cost them nothing to accommodate us with some type of exchange or store credit for an unused product they could have resold, but instead we are stuck with unused shoes we have no use for. read more

We've been using On Your Toes exclusively for the 15 years that my daughter has been dancing. Yes, you have to wait if you go on a weekend in September, but they have always taken as much time as needed to find the right fit. Their $25 Gold Star Membership is totally worth it - I save more than that every time we're in the store, and it's less expensive than shopping online for the same items. Recently, I was there and picked up a new pair of pointe shoes in the same size and style my daughter has been wearing for over a year. She got into class and realized they felt completely wrong. She called the store, and they had her come in, where they found that the shoe was constructed incorrectly, and the owner is sending it back to the manufacturer. You don't get that kind of service from an online store. read more

Quite possibly the rudest customer service ever. My daughter needed ballet shoes, tap shoes and a leotard and I didn't have time to drive to Wellesley so we stopped in here. I seriously cannot believe how rude people can be when you are forking over money for their products. I hope nobody else goes here--they should CLOSE DOWN. Abusive and mean. Stay away from the 40-50yo blond--she's a demon. Oh, and did I mention that there was a huge bin of ballet slippers on sale for $12 a pair. I found my daughter's size and asked if she could try them on, and the woman had the gall to say that they weren't on sale. They had red stickers on them and said $12 which I pointed out to her. she said "no they're not on sale." She kept saying this over and over again to my face until she finally admitted they are not on sale YET. Gross. read more

Two friends highly recommended her to us. We were going to be in the area and I wanted to do what I needed to while I was in the area. I checked out her web site and we went there based upon the web site's posted hours that I saw. Turns out they are summer hours -- I probably didn't see that part. We got there just as they were closing. They reopened the store and spent a good hour with my daughter and I (even put up with my overtired and cranky younger son who was all over the place). Buying a new pair of foot undies turned into foot undies, something to help my daughter with getting the perfect bun with her very curly hair AND sizing her for a new pair of flat toe shoes. Its power pink bubble gum for girls (lots of purple and pink) but its truly meant for dancers of all ages and despite it all is still very inviting. Laynie Terban, the owner, who spent an hour with us, is wonderful! Part of this time she spent time showing my daughter and I how we should properly sew on her elastics and ribbons on her toe shoes. Her previous teacher actually did this for me. When my 11 year daughter did it herself she totally messed it up. Thankfully its "fixable." We'd bought the toe shoes at a competitor but she still took the time to help us. Laynie is a professional "pointe professor and corrective fitter" for toe shoes. As a mother that means more than a price point. My daughter wants to have a long career in dance, and making sure that her body is protected is more important than any price point issue. Laynie's a member of a professional organization "International Assn. for Dance Medicine & Science." She maintains her education and knowledge of how to properly take care of a dancer's body. As she advertises, she is an educator and loves to pass on both new and traditional information about dance shoes to her customers. I can speak to this first hand. She took the time to truly educate both my daughter and I on how to break in her toe shoes from "day 1." In addition to all of this, if you register in her system as a dancer and where you study, she offers a 10% off the top discount to you. She also accepts competitor's coupons from other dance stores. Payment is accepted by credit card as well. Could your find some place cheaper? Perhaps, perhaps not. Do you want to ensure that your dancer's body is protected as he or she progresses? Well, then give her a try. I'm sure you'd want to become a "regular." I certainly plan on it. read more

This place does not even deserve 1 star!!The worst customer service ever. I had a size issue with both sets of dance shoes for both my girls. I took them back the following day and I had to fight for a store credit. I went in today after waiting 2 hours, and 4 hundred dollars later the owner was extremely Rude! She flat out lied to me regarding the issue I had saying that her employer was reprimanded because of the size issue and the girl ended up quitting. When I asked her to point out the employee it was the Wrong girl. She has no idea who assisted me. I'm positive the girl who quit did so because she couldn't deal with the rude owner! Every time I tried to explain my problem she rudely interrupted me and wouldn't let me speak! I will never ever shop here again and neither will my friends and family and to anyone reading this I highly recommend you go elsewhere. Terrible customer service. I have been purchasing my daughter's pointe shoes and ballet flats from here for several years and have always been more than pleased. There has got to be a better place than this. I've come in the last couple of years and always walk out wondering why I give them my business. The heavyset woman, I think she is the owner, is obnoxious. I've seen lots of bad reviews mostly around their arrogance, they way the treat people, and the return policy. Great fittings, lousy return policy. I have been here multiple times - tights, shoes, etc. I've probably spent over $200 in the last calendar year. Last week I purchased two nude leotards ($64) to go under the costumes that were scraping my daughter to the point of bleeding. I consulted the dance studio owner first, but she decided that she didn't like the 'look' of the sleeves that were protecting my daughter's arms. If I had left the tags on and lied to the cashier, I would have received a full refund. Because I had removed the tags and told the owner that they had tried them on under their costumes for a few minutes, she refused to reimburse for 'health' reasons (even though they're allowed to try them on in the store). A complete crock, and a policy antagonistic/unhelpful to its customers - I will not spend another dime here. read more

It's true that they do have a lot of stock for such a small place but they are the most expensive dancewear to buy and the rudest people that own it. You will wait in a long line and when it's finally your turn, you will be treated like they are doing you a favor by even waiting on you. Do yourself a favor and head a little bit North to Danvers and go to REM or head south to Burlington to Patterson's. You will find outstanding personalized service at both these locations. I have been going to "On Your Toes" since they were in Revere a million years ago. The staff is friendly and they are jam packed with merchandise. They offer discounts to dance teachers and students affiliated with their studios which is nice. Plenty of parking as they are located in the Latitudes gym building now. I plan to visit them this weekend for a new pair of pointe shoes. Oh one more thing, I had a problem with a pair of dance sneakers and they took care of it without hesitation. read more

I've been coming to dance store for years mostly out of necessity. They can be expensive especially compared to the prices of online dance stores. I love their selection of leotards and tights. They always have what I need in those departments. Also, they have a large selection of shoes. They have always been very helpful finding me ballet, tap and jazz shoes; however their pointe shoe fittings have been so-so (I have to admit I have really hard feet to fit though.) I also wish they had a wider selection of spandex shorts. read more

We had a pointe shoe emergency in North Carolina! My daughter's shoes were dying and she needed a pair of pointe shoes for an upcoming performances. I called our regular shoe stores in the Raleigh area and our shoes were on back order! I called Suffolk and they advised me to call 3 stores in the USA that had had a recent shipment of pointe shoes in my daughter's size. I called On Your Toes and spoke with Laynie and she looked for the shoes in her stock. She had them and shipped them overnight to our home and called me that afternoon to let me know the shoes were on the way. Laynie went above and beyond to provide excellent customer service! Called in to speak with the owner today. My daughter went in for her dance shoes on Saturday with her dad and she left with the wrong shoes (right box, wrong shoes). The owner was very nice and although I did not have any proof that I bought the shoes from her, she gladly exchanged them for the right shoes. Drove down from Maine to have Pointe shoes fitted and the staff was amazing. The owner was incredibly knowledgeable about fitting Pointe shoes and took her time to insure my daughter had the right fit which was very appreciative. My daughter was fitted for Pointe shoes once prior where not much time and care was taken which resulted in a poor fit causing pain when dancing, blisters and bleeding. Walking into this store is like "Dance World." My daughter liked the selection and we found the staff helpful. I've been going here for many years, and I do like their new location next to Latitudes. They take the time to make sure the dance shoes fit properly, which if very much appreciated. They are a bit pricey, but if you get on their mailing list, they will send you coupons throughout the year. Most studios have an arrangement with On You Toes so that you get a 10% discount. An awful experience. The store manager (not the owner) was condescending and most unhelpful and did everything but throw us out of the store when we asked to try on pointe shoes. She told us about a waiting list for pointe fittings, however, it was 10:30am and the store had just opened and was not crowded when we arrived. My 14 year old daughter is an experienced dancer and we knew which shoes we wanted but she still refused us, even after we told her the make and size and asked if she could try them on. She insisted that someone would need to fit her and there wasn't anyone there to do it. Even after another sales person offered that she could serve us and fit my daughter, she refused us. And when I attempted to be gracious and inquired about another store in the area which could help us she begrudgingly gave it to us. We are not locals and needed pointe shoes for an audition later that day which I told her. I suspect she didn't like our black and brown faces and didn't want our money. Fortunately our day was saved and we found pointe shoes elsewhere (not the place she recommended as I didn't trust her to send us to a good place) with much better and warmer service. read more
