Professional and timely service. After a poor experience at another lice salon I called them up to get my family double checked. I booked online but then had to adjust the time based on my family's size. They called right away and worked with me to find a spot at the CdM salon. Salon was clean & they were very professional. Shared helpful information & educated on what to look out for. With multiple kids in schools & no lice notifications at schools now we'll be keeping a better eye out from now on! If you're a 1st time mama dealing with lice, look no further... when I got the call my daughter had lice, I had no idea what to do or how to deal with it. Wow! What a lifesaver! I was completely overwhelmed with the thought of trying to tackle the situation, to me it was a horror story. As a single mom, I felt I was at such a loss, a battle with lice is totally unmanageable, if not impossible. I called Once In A Licetime, a woman answered with a kind, tender voice and completely put my panic at ease. She was very sweet and informative and booked us for an appointment right away, same day. We got to the location in Corona Del Mar and immediately felt the weight off of my shoulders. The place is clean, light and airy. They have a TV for the kids to pick out a show and my daughter was excited to sit and get started. The owner Shannon whom I spoke with on the phone was so empathetic to our situation and walked us through everything. She checked my head first and I was in relief that I did not have lice although my heart sank for my daughter. She then took care of my daughters hair and went through it extremely thoroughly. She showed me the eggs and lice and even though it was gross she wanted to educate me on what to look out for so this doesn't happen again. I'm so shocked she took the time to talk with me through the whole process and my daughter was happy as could be when she was finished. She put her hair in a cute braid bun and put a cute little rhinestone tiara in the front of her braid bun. My daughter was all smiles after that. We bought some product that she created that keeps lice away and excited to use it as a preventative so this does not happen again! She also gave me a number that I can txt any time even years from now if I have any questions or need advice if this does happen again by any chance. Luckily they have locations all over! Unfortunately, our household received the dreaded call from our child's school... Lice had moved into the family and needed to be evicted immediately. We made a call to Once in a Licetime after hearing about them via Yelp. The reviews don't lie - it was a good experience and we're grateful they made themselves immediately available to set us straight and get those dang critters packing. Ugh. The service was prompt, informative, comfortable and super important (especially for the little ones), a non-shaming environment. It's embarrassing enough to find out one has lice, but then to deal with a cold, detached person treating the problem would be cruddy. Thankfully, Once in a Licetime was warm, courteous and helpful. My daughter getting lice was one of the most stressful experiences for both her and I. I did an at home kit as soon as I realized she had them & after going through her hair as meticulously as possible I came to one realization: I wasn't AT ALL confident that my daughter was now lice free. Then I remembered seeing a shop while driving down PCH in CDM that specialized in Lice Removal. Right away I got on the phone and booked an appointment for the very next morning. Shannon was great! As soon as I got off the phone she texted me the address and driving directions (it was after 10pm, btw) & confirmed the appointment an hour before, as well. I'm so glad we came in. I came here a couple months ago, my daughter had head lice and as a first time mom of twins...I panicked! A coworker had recommended this facility but had warned me it was pricey. The facility is VERY clean and white furnishings. The Corona Del Mar location was private, meaning it was basically myself and my two kids in the whole salon. It was nice actually to get this privacy. The attendant was great and wonderful with children. Particularly with my daughter due to her autism, I can't ever predict her reaction to new environments or people. Attendant was wonderful and kind. HOWEVER, I AM INCLUDING THIS ADVICE TO PARENTS NEW TO THIS LICE SITUATION. THE TREATMENTS DONE AT THIS BUSINESS IS COMPLETELY DOABLE AT HOME, SAVE YOUR MONEY PLEASE! I had no idea how to handle the lice because my children had never been infected and I was a mere 7yr old when I had been infested with it. It was more out of insecurity, fear and anxiety that brought me here. But legitimately, all they do is go through with a fine tooth comb slowly wet hair, separate in sections, have a paper towel handy to kill the lice piece by hair piece. Buy the lice over the counter shampoo, rub it in, leave in as directed and comb again after showering it off. Repeat over and over nightly. For my daughters treatment, myself and my son of the same exact procedure I could've done myself at home...it COST ME OVER $600 dollars!! Believe me, you can do it all home for under $30. Even if it's just one child they find lice on you'll be in the hole for about $150 minimum. Don't fear parents you can do the job yourself. Hope this helps! read more

After we got home and researched the other ingredients in this product we found it to contain Polysorbate 80. Polysorbate 80 is used as an emulsifier by the pharmaceutical industry to enhance the delivery of chemicals/drugs from the blood into the brain across the blood brain barrier (BBB). Being that the BBB is impermeable to many things in the bloodstream, researchers needed to find a way to deliver chemicals/drugs into the brain from the bloodstream in order to treat hard-to-reach brain. We have a young child who is sensitive to chemicals. We have a young child who is sensitive to these types of products. Once we found out about the Polysorbate 80 we asked for a refund the same day. We never opened or used the product. I would go elsewhere. It cost about $550 dollars to be treated here for myself and my child. We were told that we had moderate cases of lice but the websites of other lice treatment places suggest they'd be considered mild. The technician spent about a half an hour on each of us and "strongly recommended" follow up appointments for $75 dollars each because, she said, you can't get all the nits. That's not what I've been told elsewhere. If you go to Picky Pam in Huntington Beach, it will cost you $95-175 per person and they spend much more time on you -- 75-180 minutes (and up) to make sure they've gotten all the nits. You do a follow up with shampoo. That's it. If we'd gone to Picky Pam's in Huntington Beach, I would have paid less than $200 dollars and only had to go once. We made a mistake going to Once in A Licetime but hopefully you won't. read more

How could you NOT want the best for your little one (or yourself)? We had an outbreak of lice at the school and several of the kids were affected. This was a nightmare, we had some of the teachers with lice as well. We didn't know where to turn. We heard about Once in a Licetime and gave them a call. What a difference. The families were able to go to the warm friendly environment to receive treatment and have those nasty critters removed. We sent several families over and they were treated with kindness and a smile. When you are dealing with lice it is bad enough but Once in a Licetime was not afraid to get in and get them taken care of!!! The kids were at home getting to watch a movie or play games. What a difference. Our teachers mentioned that the staff was just so friendly and well informed on the process. We will be sure to use them again IF this ever happens. We have worked with other centers, cold and unfriendly. We have had families do HOME treatments only to have the critters not be all removed and have to deal with this again. We did not have a new outbreak after this. They were removed!!! :-) The price is right, affordable. We got the dreaded diagnosis, yes our girls had lice. After a note came home from school and being checked there, we were diligent ourselves in checking and found nothing. Our dentist noticed it yesterday! We called Shannon right away and she was so great and reassuring. We saw her last night and we are now lice free! I came here today at my wits end and having NO idea where to start. We had never had lice before and I couldn't even sleep just picturing it everywhere! Over the counter stuff didn't work and I was losing my mind. My husband found this place on yelp and I was skeptical walking in. Taking a 5 and 8 year old in I was preparing for the worst of them having to endure the checks and treatment and sitting for the whole family to get checked. We walked into the place, it's gorgeous and she has a big screen tv and snacks for the kids. They didn't want to leave! She even met us on a Sunday! Doesn't charge after hours costs, and didn't charge to check other family members! Shannon was so helpful and calmed my anxiety. I never knew places like this existed but now that I do I will be telling the world! It's WELL worth the money to have the peace of mind!! In short, this is a incompetent operation run by someone who is either grossly negligent or deliberately deceitful. My child contracted lice a school. I had read positive reviews of Once in a Licetime and made an appointment. The owner, Shannon, assured me my child would be lice free with 2-3 visits. Shannon was very quick in her work. She generally finished the combing and examinations in 30 minutes or so. After three visits my child still had lice--lots of them. On our third and final visit Shannon explained that our child had simply been "re-infected" since she had eliminated all the lice which were a part of the contract we had paid for. There were other parents present at the time. One of them mentioned this was her 17th visit because her daughter (according to Shannon) was constantly re-infected as well. Shannon further demanded additional compensation over the nearly $500 we had paid for her work. We departed and refused to pay for a service which we believe was never properly performed. We then contacted a different service which uses an alternate (and, in our view, proper) service model. Shannon charges by the job -- which means the economics of her business plan require her to spend as little time as possible locating lice and nits so she may move to the next customer. The operation which solved our problem charges by the hour. I will not mention the name as I do not want to create the impression this is an advertisement for one of Shannon's competitors. Since this second provider charges based solely on time spent removing lice they are in no rush to stop until satisfied every louse and egg has been found. Where Shannon spent 30 minutes with our child, the other business took several hours. After two sessions (and several hundred more dollars) our child was finally lice free. It is very distressing to learn your child has lice. I have sadly concluded Once in a Licetime is a business dedicated not to eliminating this difficult condition so much as enrichming of the proprietor. All parents would be well advised to seek services based upon a time spent approach. read more

This place is ridiculous. Technicians were nice and all, but did an awful job! I nanny for a family of 3 who have never experienced the joy of lice. My daughters have had it several times, so I consider myself a pro by now. So my boss finds out they have lice and freak, naturally. Took her kids up to this place and had me join her so I could get checked as well. The 3 girls, including Mom, were covered, 2 ya old had it, and me and dad were in the clear. Major infestation in the 9 yr old. Mom spent a grip of money on removal, and ALLLL the products. Made their follow up appt for a sat, we came in Tuesday, received the letter for school saying she was lice free, and went on her way. Thursday..One Day later, she gets a call from school yet again saying her daughter has lice. I pick her up, and without even touching her hair, I can see the nits! At this point I was already irritated, as I've been through this process before, and even I have never left that many nits in my daughters hair. So we drive alll the way back, and I even asked the technician if this was normal after having just had paid a grip for removal, and she stated no. Everyone still had nits, and live ones as well. Upon picking the 3 rd grader up from school, the office gal referred us to a lady who's been doing this for years, and often gets once upon a lice's clients, as they do a crappy job and over charge. The one kid who had the most nits was 275$! Through the new gal, it was less then 100$ AND she came to the house, AND has a 99% success rate and did an incredibly thorough job. I know lice can be freaky, but do your research. Don't pay for some overcharged place that isn't going to take care of the problem read more
