We had a lice issue that needed a professional's touch. While we had cleaned our daughter's hair of all the live lice using an over-the-counter kit from CVS, when we took her to preschool, the staff there said that we couldn't check her in until all of the visible eggs were gone. Since our over-the-counter comb could only catch the larger eggs, we decided to call up Once in a Licetime to get her hair professionally cleaned. We called up Olivia, and she made herself available later that day for an appointment. She let us select a show on Netflix (our daughter loves Number Blocks), and she combed through her hair to remove all visible eggs and nits. She provided us with some preventative detangler spray we could use to prevent our daughter from getting reinfected, and gave her an adorable baby crown to wear at the end so she felt like a princess after getting her hair treated. She offered for us to get a follow-up check and cleaning the following week, as the initial comb-through might have missed a few non-visible, but microscopic lice that we might have missed. Olivia also answered all of our questions honestly and patiently throughout the process. She also checked my hair (lice free) and my wife's hair (also had lice) to ensure our entire household was lice free when we left, and gave us advice on how to clean our house to prevent us from accidentally getting reinfected by an errant pillow or blanket. I had such an amazing experience here, Olivia was so sweet! Just came to have my head checked on short notice and they were so flexible. The whole experience was very relaxing and my scalp feels so fresh and exfoliated. Luckily I didn't have any lice but the conditioning treatment and scalp combing were so enjoyable that I would come back just for that. Price wise, they are also the most reasonable and I did some shopping around. I'm updating purely on customer service. I called to cancel my second appointment and the customer service rep was super short with me after I told her the purpose of my call. She hung up, no "good bye," nothing. Then I received an email saying my appointment had been updated and changed to a different location. So I called back to confirm my appointment was cancelled. The customer service rep said, "it's cancelled." I replied that I had received an email saying it was changed. She replied, "no. It's cancelled." In response I said, "ok, just wanted to make sure so I am not charged or penalized in any way." She replied with, "no." Then hung up. Again, no "bye" or "don't worry, it's taken care of" or "have a good day." The attitude definitely changes if you're shelling out $100's of dollars versus cancelling an appointment. read more

A few weeks ago I took my 13 year old daughter to get a haircut and her stylist found lice. Yikes!! (Who knew that lice is very common in teen girls now - especially due to the selfie era??!) I found Once In A Licetime through Yelp and it had great reviews. They got us in within 90 minutes - and we were headed home within another 90 minutes or so. Awesome! Our technician, Katie, was so nice and so knowledgeable, and the shop felt very clean. The way she handled everything showed me that she knew what she was doing and was taking every precaution to make sure it didn't get passed on. She also told us what to do to ensure we got rid of any trace of lice in our home. Katie explained that they recommended two treatments plus a follow up visit. It definitely wasn't cheap (and I do not have a big bank account) but to me it was worth every penny. Our second treatment was about 5 days later. And the last visit was a quick 15 minute follow-up four days after the second treatment. I also received several very kind text messages in between visits to ask if we had any questions. Impressive!! Buy their comb and lice removal hair products and do it yourself. I really felt hustled when I left this place. The lady said the lice infestation was "severe" and charge me $250. She was done in literally 10 minutes. How severe was it really then? My daughter has a short bob, pretty thin hair. Then we had to come back twice to take another look. By the 3rd time I was over it, who has time for that? It helped but didn't completely rid the lice. Thank god I bought the comb and did it myself at home consistently. Sad that people take advantage of people in a desperate situation and over charge just because they can but I guess that's capitalism. Update- I originally gave them 3 stars, an average rating as I felt they were over priced and in the end the service didn't work. Instead of the owner reaching out and saying sorry you feel that way, what can we offer to help change your mind about our business, she messaged me to basically call me a liar and said I insulted her for saying she is hustling people instead of helping them and that there is no record of me visiting their shop. A week ago my daughter was treated two times for moderate infestation. This weekend, I called as I had thought I had found more knits. The lady I spoke to on the phone asked me to send pics so she can see. Based on the pics, she said I can bring my daughter in for a $15 head check as one pic was questionable. Given that I was there a week ago, I think the head check should have been free and if I decided on a third treatment, then I would have paid more for a discounted rate. I spent a little over $250 for 2 treatments and spray a week ago and I don't think I should still be dealing with this. I decided to buy a home treatment instead and did it myself. The last head check should be free in my opinion, especially since we were there just a week ago. I think the pricing needs to be more transparent upfront. The lady who did the treatments provided good customer service. No complaints. The lady I spoke to yesterday was nice too, but she was rushed as I called half hour before she was leaving. Like others have said in the reviews, it feels like they are up selling. I gave 2 stars for Katie who provided the treatments and she deserves more. But the pricing and not willing to do a free head check when I was just there and paid $263 was a big turn off. read more

All of the 5 star reviews are a phony, they give you a slight discount if you give them a good review (they even check your phone) After spending nearly $1000 on products and multiple services, the lice were never fully removed. We came back about 3 weeks ago for head check because my son was scratching his head again. After the head check the technician declares my son clear. 2-3 days ago my husband noticed a full grown bug on my son's shoulder. He was completely infested. The entire process with this company has been extremely frustrating. We found another company in San Clemente a few days ago and the technician there found lice in my son's head that were well over a few months old. Meaning that the head check did not detect the lice. Editing my review because I felt like I was lied to. I gave them 5 stars first bc i was told if I checked in i could get a discount, which was applied to the "severe" case. But I think you guys need to be more upfront with your customers about pricing and procedure. I'm supposed to come back for more treatments but honestly don't want to because of how dishonest I felt like the whole transaction went don't really feel like getting swindled twice. When we first came in I told the person I made the appt with that 1 person had lice and I just needed to do Checks on 2 others just to make sure. At first she said the head check would be $25 per head check then mentioned discounts that we could get. All seemed fine until she found supposedly 1 nit on a head check she said it would still only be $15. The other head check she said she found a bunch of nits but no live bugs, funny she was hesitant to show me the napkin where she put them and she happened to lose the 2 nits on the napkin and said "oh i don't know where it went let me comb again". She wasn't hesitant to show me the napkin with the head that had actual nits/lice so that was a red flag. The $15 head check turned to $95 and our final bill was around $350. Save yourself and go somewhere else that actually cares about customers and not just making quick money on people that are in a desperate situation. I'm also going to report to BBB if possible. I was desperate and felt like they definitely took advantage of that and that is very disappointing. read more
