First time coming to Once Upon A Child, and I even braved it on a Saturday when they were doing their %90 off grab bag event! It wasn't too too crowded, when it was time to check out I was the 6th person in line with about 6 more people behind me. Probably took 15 minutes which isn't crazy. They were not super fast ringing stuff out. They have to scan and take every hanger off the clothes so it's a process. I was just browsing but intended to buy. They have stuff everywhere, literally stacked to the ceiling. Don't even think about buying new toys from target, especially those push walker toys. I was looking at 6-9 months and up. If you know baby clothes you know that if a onesie says 6 months on it, then that's the oldest age they are "supposed" to fit, but they had all the tags wrong and saying the clothes were 6-9 when it should have been on the 3-6 month section. Another downside is all the clothes and the store had a purfume smell to them, even after I brought the clothes home and washed. I'd probably wash twice next time. But I found some great stuff. Found some brand new items, even one from a boutique store that had an $18 price tag on it. However I paid only 3.50 - %20. Score! Also found an Alaskan grown onesie which run like 20 bucks! Got it for $2. Awesome. Also got four toys, seen them all at target for about 3/4 what I paid. All in really great condition. I will definitely be back again for clothes and toys, maybe during the week it'll be less busy. And I'll wash what I bring home a few times. I might end up brining stuff here to sell too one day. For now I just give it away since we got a lot of our stuff from friends. read more

The store closes at 6. I arrived at 5:50 for a baby bath and the doors were locked. We knocked on the door, they turned off the lights and acted like they couldn't hear us while they stood at the counter laughing, then went to the back room. When one girl finally came up to the door she lied and said the computers crashed. We asked if they take cash she stood there looking around for an answer like she doesn't work there and after asking more questions said the computers are already shut off. Love shopping here. We always find nice things at great prices here! I especially love the stroller dolly we found. They usually are over $50.00 dollars, and I snagged it for $18.00! We use it at the airport so much it was such a good purchase. Their clothing is great too. Very reasonable pricing, and they do deals periodically! Never been disappointed shopping here. I do not recommend this store for selling your gently used items. I took in a bag full of higher end clothes, many new still with tags, and a pair of girls dress shoes from Nordstrom that were worn once. They offered me $8.80. You're better off listing your things on Marketplace. It's a bigger hassle, but at least you won't waste your time just to be insulted. read more

Likely a decent place to buy gently used items for babies. I have personally never shopped here. As far as selling goes, you are better off passing up the insulting fast cash, and using Craigslist and/or FB marketplace. I understand places like this buy for around 1/3 of the items worth. However, I find it weird that here, they have you leave your items for review. Fully knowing that what they're going to offer you, isn't even enough to cover your return trip, in todays climate of rising gas prices. Give people the bad news ASAP, while they're there, the first time. read more

Employee talked very rudely to my child. I was right there she could've talked to me to relay information to get off a balance bike. Very rude and inappropriate and makes me uncomfortable to want to return. He has severe adhd and is only 5. There was zero need for attitude. I went into the store today to buy a snowsuit for my son. Someone did greet me which I appreciate coming from a retail background. What I did not appreciate is that two different associates came to the back where I was. Neither of them asked if I needed help they both just looked at me like I was stealing something. I understand we are not in the best part of town but I wasn't stealing. Anytime I thought someone was stealing from my store I would ask them if they need help instead of just staring. They made me feel very uncomfortable and I didn't want to buy the snowsuit. I've never had a problem here before but I did today and I am very disappointed. I hope the manager sees this and tries some different techniques to catch thieves rather than chasing away paying customers. read more

This place is amazing. Great concept. Its mostly clothes though. They're basically at the mercy of what people decide to turn in. If more people took advantage of this awesome place, they could make bank off their old baby furniture. Scored an awesome baby saucer here for 35 dollars here that was in perfect shape. I'm a huge fan of this particular store. I have been to other stores in the lower 48 and have not been impressed. Firstly, this place may be a bit overwhelming, there is so much to look at. I would recommend coming alone without kids because you may spend most of your time dragging them away from the array of toys. This place has the biggest selection of Melissa and Doug stuff I have seen anywhere around Anchorage. Secondly, the nicest thing I found here is that everything is in colors. If you want something pink its easy to find as all the pinks are together, etc..kindof the same way Plato's closet is. Good prices for a resale, not great but manageable. I got two full snowsuits (pant and jacket) for $20.00 each. Great Mittens for $14.99. Size 4T sweatshirts for $4.50 a piece and snow hats were $2.50 and $3.50. I was super excited! They do have a 7 day return policy :) Try it out! You will find yourself here just looking around for a while. read more

Good used stuff! Yes, we'll probably buy some of the essentials for our first baby new, but don't see a point in investing the big bucks in all the schtuff we'll use for a year or less. First visit here and we got a really nice wooden changing table for 45 bucks, a super-cute, brand-new looking bouncer for 30 and a slightly scruffy Baby Bjorn for 20 (about 1/3 to 1/5 of the price). Ridiculously cheap. Lots of cute stuff, very gently worn baby clothes. Will be back for stuff like the baby's bathtub, etc. read more

I like finding gently used clothes and gear for my littles since they grow out of them so quickly. BUT I have had rude customer service on a couple different occasions. Yesterday I went in to grab something that had been confirmed was there earlier in the day. I went in 10 minutes before closing to quickly grab it. The girl at the register (teal hair and eyebrows) assumed that I was coming in to peruse. She rudely yells at me across the store (and over a customer) "we close in ten minutes" (rude tone)... maybe she could have asked if there was something she could help me with so I could leave quickly? read more

Had to knock a star because there wasn't much selection for my 10 year old. He wears 16-18 and is kind of tall so he's pretty much between men's small sizes and kids extra large. From previous experiences with other places I sell clothes too I was pretty surprised they took almost everything I brought in. I got $19 for half a trash bag of clothes which to me is great and it filled up my tank for my 4th of July road trip. The clothes here look less worn and torn too compared to places I've been to before. I hate used clothes but I'd buy here for my son or niece and nephews because some of the stuff still has original tags but is sooooo much cheaper. I had no idea they have movies too. Lots of vhs which most people can't use anymore but we actually have an old tv at our cabin that has a tape player in it. During covid-19 their employees are still nice. However this place is a huge rip-off. I went to sell them gently used toys, toys that look brand new, hardly even used, the toys brand new were close to $300.00!!!!!! They gave me $36.00!!!! F***ing RIP OFF!!!!!! Never ever ever sell anything to them ever!!!!!! It is a serious waste of your time. The biggest mistake I've ever made I will never do it again. Customer service is bad. I agree with many of the reviews. Staff was completely rude. Will not come here again. I had over $500 worth of items in almost new condition and they offered $70. The explanation was we can only offer half on equipment items. So how does that math add up?! Staff made a snarky comment when I acted surprised by their joke of an offer. I wanted to support a local business but staff was rude. I'd rather donate! Do not recommend this place at all! read more

I should be giving this place five stars, but I just can't do it for a place that sells used stuff. We've gotten a toy or two that won't work more than a couple days that we couldn't test without batteries, but they are very few and far between. The clothes are great, the prices are great, the staff is great, the ability to resell big, old stuff that is clogging up our house is great... We've also gotten a lot of toys that work fine and baby loves! Something that took me a while to realize. When you're shopping, look up. The clothing rows have bigger toys up top. There really is a wealth of goodies to be found here. I just wish I'd known about it BEFORE my baby shower and the $200 swing, $100 Bjorn... I could've stocked her entire toybox, closet AND gotten a swing for $200 here! read more

My kids are 5 and 6 so I'm very familiar with this franchise. Compared to the Ohio, Wyoming, and Florida once upon a child stores, the Anchorage prices are too high and the sales are a joke. Additionally, when you sell your items the store buys them at a fraction of the cost and sells them for 5 times what they paid you (if not more). You are much better off shopping at and supporting kid to kid as they offer real sales, better buy out prices, and better service. Otherwise buy the product new when it goes on sale. You'll probably still save money compared to this store! read more

Children are expensive, so when I had my son this was the first place I went to for clothes he'd only fit for a few months. You'll see 2 kinds of negative reviews for this place; pays too little for items and sells for too high. I disagree. You'd be able to sell your items for more if you sold them yourself, but you come here for the convenience of not having to wait around for someone to be interested in an online ad. They pay probably about 1/3 of what they resell for because they need profit margins as a business. As for selling for too much, everything here is at least half the price they'd be brand new and they only buy clothes with no stains or wear and tear. I'd say they're incredibly worth the price. My only complaint is that the toys aren't held to quite the same standard and they can sometimes be very dirty. Toys are easy enough to clean typically though so I'm not taking off a star for that. read more

When my son was an infant and toddler this place was a godsend. I got most of his clothes here, and a lot of essentials (crib, walker, bouncy seat, and more. I really appreciated what this place provided, and of course there was a thing or two that wasn't in perfect shape, but this is all used stuff at a great price. read more

Yeah for buying used stuff that your kids will use in such a short period of time, this place is awesome. However because of one of the items I bought I'm only giving this place 2 stars. I purchased one of those swing chairs for my newborn. I had asked the sales ladies what the policy was if the item didn't work to which their response was "We check all items & only put out ones that work & you have a 7-day return policy if it should not work." Great, right?! So, for 45 bucks I bought an excellent used swingy-chair-thingy. Took it home & for the first 2 weeks, except for a minor issue in the music department (one music choice was super static), everything was fine with an occasional sudden stop of the swinging. Now, it just won't even swing anymore. Nada. Nothing. And it's NOT the batteries. My suggestion is that you should ask the sales ladies in the front for batteries so that you can test any battery operated item yourself. I don't know if they follow such a policy - but they should. I pretty much can guarantee you that if I went back to re-sell that chair, they would give me nothing yet they were the ones who sold it to me. In general I really enjoy this store, it has a wide selection of clothes and toys do for my 10 month old. Today however, I had a not so savory experience. I'm moving in a month and was pretty close to filling up the card to get 15% off so I was ready to buy about 200$ of stuff. As I was getting ready to check out I had one of the girls who worked there (Anne) say something about how long I had been in the store. She then proceeded to give me attitude every second I was in the store after that and while checking me out. She essentially was acting as if I was inconveniencing her by being in the store at all. Additionally, I bought the tote to get the extra stamps but low and behold she was too busy being nasty to give me the stamps. A lot of the employees in general don't act as if they particularly want to be there. I would have spent significantly more then I did (I only ended up spending about $50) but this employee was so rude I decided they didn't need my extra buisness. I gave 3 stars because I love the store itself but the experiences I've had with the employees have never been very good. read more
