I've been shopping at Once Upon A Child for over five years, and they've always been one of my favorite places to shop for my kids. Their selection changes constantly, so there's always something new to find, and the prices make it much easier to keep up with growing children without spending a fortune. The staff has always been friendly and professional whenever I've visited, and I've personally never had a negative experience. If you're selling items, it's important to remember that this is a resale business. Of course we'd all love to receive top dollar for our gently used items, but the store has to purchase inventory, cover operating costs, and still be able to resell those items at affordable prices. If the offer doesn't work for you, you can always decline it--there's no pressure. Overall, I highly recommend this location for anyone looking to save money on quality children's clothing, toys, shoes, baby gear, and more. I had a great experience here and I'm honestly not sure why there are so many low reviews. I walked in about 10 minutes before closing, and I never felt rushed, which I really appreciated. Business is offering free items in exchange for good Yelp reviews on a local moms group on FB. I was struggling to keep up with the constant size changes every 3 months for my lil one. Took some of his 0-3 and 3-6 month clothes here and they wouldn't take any of them even though some of them were ones I had bought from that store before he was born. They sure as heck wanted all the toys he had outgrown though, offered me $10 for them I took the whole lot back home and put it on Marketplace for $20. It was gone within the hour. read more

This store is typically clean and very well organized. I actually like this store because it is very easy to walk around and find all the correct sizes. BUTTTT this store in particular is price gouging all of the name brand items and even some of the regular items. Yes I do understand this is their "policy" but I have been to many many different Once Upon A Child stores in this state and in others and this is the most expensive one I have been too thus far. The staff is always usually super nice to me and my family so that's a plus. But I have been asked on multiple occasions to put in a google review for free items. I know this isn't illegal but it's wrong to buy reviews, when their entire experience should be genuine. I would never take anything else there my son had passed at 6 months and I had a box of brand new clothes with tags still on them carters all that and when I came back to see how much they was going to offer they was offering $15 for the whole box of clothes which I paid way more than probably $500 for all of it so the young lady walking in the store and I asked her how many months she was and she said she was 9 months and she was pregnant with the boy and I told her she could have the box and they stopped me and told me that I could not do that so I told the young lady to meet me outside and I put everything in her trunk read more

I wasn't sure what to expect as I have never been to one of these stores. However, generally understood it is a second hand shop for kid clothes/items. Prices seemed high for second hand clothes. $14 for a used swaddle? I was expecting $1-$2 onesies and maybe $5 swaddles. To be fair I only looked around for maybe 5 minutes before walking out. I came in with a brand new car seat. There were to ladies that helped me and something happened with the system where they couldn't enter my ID. They had to call the owner. She came in didn't ask me any questions or anything just said we can't accept that. With an attitude. Then she tried to tell me they couldn't accept it because the plastic wasn't sealed. But the plastic was never sealed. The box was opened yes but the carseat has never been used. Still had all original packing and paper work. She gave a sarcastic apology. The Karen (heavyset white woman) of the store wouldn't even let me get in the door. She blocked it and made me hold a big container of clothes while it was 95 degrees outside. I've tried to give this store several chances, but disappointed each time. Learning my lesson from before, I called ahead to be sure there'd still be donation spots available when I got there in 20 minutes or less. They said yes, and when I arrived, I was told they're at capacity. I understand this can happen quickly, but please be realistic with your customers then, and properly set expectations. First of all let me just say I donate clothes and thrift often. As a thrifter there's a decent selection if you're looking for quick play clothes. Or just secondhand items to keep up with your child's rapid growth. As a someone who donates I'd sooner donate to Goodwill before I come back here. I brought a bag of name brand items some barely worn. Mind you they don't accept anything in plastic or paper bags. Has to be a bin or reusable bag. Nonetheless of the entire selection brought in the only things they wanted were a pair of barely worn $80 shoes and a skirt. For which I was only reimbursed $12. I browsed to purchase and saw some clothes in lesser condition than what was refused of mine. Not sure how their choices are made or by whom. But it's clear there's familiarity/favoritism going on. The disdainfulness I was met with in this store spoke volumes. From the moment I walked in to donate, to my purchase nearly being refused due to question of a bill which was marked and cleared. But still somehow seemed sketchy due to it being an older bill. I will not be returning. read more

I drove an hour to this location to sell and shop. I had called earlier and they said they accepted buys until a few hours before closing. I got here in the afternoon and when I walked in they told me they weren't taking any more buys for the day. It wasn't even late afternoon. There was no sign on the door. I wasted gas and my time to come to this store. It was my first time attempting this, she told me to "just come back tomorrow". She didn't care that I had driven that far after being mislead I could still drop stuff off. I told her I wasn't going to come back and I won't be shopping at this location . I will drive to Raleigh and give them my time and money. 1. If you aren't going to accept buys until you tell people you are, don't tell them a specific time and say "first come first serve and if we get too much we stop when we decide to". At least then people won't show up expecting a service you aren't going to provide. 2. Put a sign on your door so people don't waste their time getting out of their cars and hauling stuff in to be turned around. 3. Change your buy times if you can't support what you tell people. read more

I was not disappointed with my experience here! Once Upon a Child has a TON of cute baby clothes for an awesome price. It's the first place I've been into that has more than just pink in the girls section, thank goodness. I was immediately drawn to the most adorable and beautiful bassinet that they were selling for only $150!!! If I had not already gotten one for my baby then I would have jumped on that sweet deal. They also have a rewards system where you accumulate points and can get discounts. I can't stress how much I love this store now. I don't think I'll ever buy new baby clothes again after coming here and seeing the quality and price of the selection they offer. They also sell books, toys, strollers and other small child related items. This store is definitely worth the trip for any family with babies and small children looking for awesome deals and great quality. read more

Don't shop or sell here, lady that acts like the boss is super not friendly and the items are way over priced. Tried selling to them twice and the first time I got there at 9:55am and they opened at 10am and the lady told me that they closed buying hours which didn't make any sense because I got there right when they opened. The second time I sold to them I swear they didn't even look through my stuff because I brought in two boxes and one of the boxes we exactly placed in the box the way I originally put them in there. read more

The employees at this location are absolutely inept at their job. The manager or atleast the one who appears to be in charge (heavy set lady), was incredibly rude when we went to get the payment for the clothes sold. The other older female who took the clothes from us this morning did not give us any instruction as to when we should come and get the payout. We waited all day looking at the tracker that was sent via text. It never updated, so we called around 5:45pm which was the estimated time given by the original text. They told us that it has been ready for hours and to come pick it up. When we got to the counter, the manager sent the young girl who was actually nice to tell us that they were making an exception to give us the money for our clothes after 6pm. We didn't know what to say as we were never told that we would have to be there before 6pm to collect a payout. The heavy set lady then repeatedly barked at us about how she was giving us an exception as if we hadn't waited on an update from them all day. Terrible place, terrible people(except the young one). Don't recommend unless you're into a frumpy portly lady telling you how you're lucky she's giving you $12 dollars for used kids clothes. read more

We came into Once Upon a Child today to sell some gently used clothing & toys that my child has outgrown. The buying process at this location took a long time (compared to the amount of the time it has taken at locations we've sold to while living in Clarksville, TN & Columbus, GA); we dropped off around 3:30pm and didn't receive the call to pick up until 6:50pm. They accepted most of the items, aside from the toys we brought in, due to having too many toys on hand (that's the reason we were given by staff). The offer they made us for the items accepted was far lower than we've previously experienced at other locations, especially considering they literally filled an entire blue tub with the clothing we brought in. We had browsed the store, prior to picking up, to see if they had anything cute for back to school season. Unfortunately, a lot of the items on the rack were visibly stained, obnoxiously wrinkled, and a few shirts had crusty snot smears on them. We walked past the shoe bins and noticed that some of them had clumps of dirt crusted to the bottom. Some of the toys we looked at were also visibly dirty. A staff member handling our checkout mentioned she was pleasantly surprised by what we brought in & said it was nice to go through stuff that was "actually nice", or something to that effect. One staff member also repeatedly requested that we go and close the front doors, after other customers had left them open on their way in, because the staff "can't be cooling the outside". There was also an issue with the cash register and one employee made a few comments that the coworker who handled the issue was "petty", which made me more than a little uncomfortable to witness as a customer. All in all, I'd recommend passing on this Once Upon a Child location. Their buying process isn't on par with the multiple other locations we've been to & the quality, cleanliness of the items in stock and the selection is less than stellar. After today's visit, I can honesty say wouldn't shop there for my child & wouldn't recommend it to my local friends. read more

Today was my first experience with Once upon a child and it wasn't the best experience. As I walked in I was told that I needed to put my clothes in a basket or a tote. No worries, I was given the heads up from a friend that goes to this store in a different location. I left and went to clothes mentor next door. Luckily I over hear the lady on the phone and she was saying the same thing about the bag. Once she had gotten off of the phone, she stated that I could use a reusable grocery bag. I asked does that apply to Once upon a child, she said "yes". I took my "new Bag" back into Once upon a child and went to the counter. I over heard the lady going through and explaining the policy of how it works.. When it came to me, she said, "You know how it works right"? I mean after over hearing you telling the gentleman in front of me how it works, yes, but if you don't care to explain it to me and it's my 1st time here, fine (note it). She told me that the call is a courtesy call, but I need to be back by 6 or the funds will be credited. So basically I just have to come back it's not guaranteed that I will get a call or text. My car malfunctioned to where I have to put my car in the shop unexpectedly and I call to see if I could get someone to pick up my items if I didn't have a ride. I was told no and basically I would get penalized when it wasn't my fault my car malfunctioned. I was able to make it back to the store sold 4 shirts out of the entire bag and took the rest of the clothes back. They say that they will donate it, but I'm sure they will put it on the sales floor and sell it anyways. I was looking at shoes and I saw scuffs marks on them. If they don't take items with marks on them, then why are they selling items with marks on them??? THINK ABOUT IT! I should have saved my time and listed to the reviews. The woman that sorts items at the front door is amazing and the younger girl who has worked the counter every other time I've come into the store is awesome as well. The older woman working the counter when they opened today was not welcoming at at all. I was actually taken back by her attitude because every other time I've been there it was so pleasant. She may have had a bad morning but immediately the way she addressed me gave me a bad vibe. Shop anywhere BUT here for children's clothing if you expect a bargain. Not only are their RESALE prices on USED clothing way over-priced, but the value they give you for your quality clothing is a joke. You'd be better off donating it to a friend in need or a thrift shop. Also, BEWARE of what you're signing when you drop off clothes! (In fine small print) Apparently, in order to receive a cash offer, you are supposed to go in the SAME DAY you drop off before 5pm or the cash offer goes away and you can only receive store credit. In addition, they don't give you the opportunity to take your clothes back if you don't agree with the offer. They just tag your clothes and put them on the floor before you even see your offer! I'm heartbroken my darling daughters clothing they only want to pay me $4 for is now sitting on a rack for $35+! What a racket! read more

Terrible experience ever! Staff very rude. I took a basket of items in a few days ago and was told all clothing passed but I needed to take them home to wash, because of a storage smell! Ok, return the exact items freshly laundered and was told the items were out dated even though I just purchased these nice items brand new for my son last winter! The light skin bald lady then proceeds to stereotype and insults my daughter after she asked a price on a very expensive item. My daughter told her she wasn't interested in the item after she told her the price and the bald manager states, " I figure you would not want it after I told you the price. What the hell does that mean? After waiting more than 2 hours I walked out with 7.45 cent! Do yourself a favor and shop where they treat their customers with respect! read more

This was the worst experience I have ever had in a retail store. All 3 employees who were working the sales floor were extremely rude. I tried to help a sales associate locate the shoes I was trying to pick up since their store was pretty unorganized. She snapped at me saying she stopped because she had something in her eye. She also had several comments to the other employees about me and my items. I was standing right there. Guess she figured I couldn't hear her, or just didn't care. So when they only offered him pennys for his toys. He walked outside I followed him outside not to buy his toy. Tried dropping off clothes 4 times. First time closed without warning due to staff issues, second time arrived at 1020 and was told they had no spaces left, third time dropped my things off and was told they would be ready shortly. 5 hours later they still had not been processed, had to take them back home to pick up my son from school. 4th and final time took the clothes dropped them off, was one of the first ones in line. Was told they would be ready around 3. I arrived at 430 and was told they still were not ready, waited until 6pm, closing time and came back. Long line of people waiting for the same thing. Was told that they still had not processed mine and that I could just bring them back the next day. I drove 35 min one way to bring these. I will not be back to sell or buy. Please don't waste your time, Hugs and Kisses consignment has a sale twice a year, better prices and more items. read more

I have been both a shopper and a seller at Once Upon a Child. This store has employees that are rude and condescending. Mikaela in particular although she is soft spoken comes across judgmental and rude. I was told the last time I tried to sell new items that I would need a receipt for new items. I am a couponer and deal finder. I love to find items either new or used at yard sales clean them and resell them. I believe that is also their goal and it seems that we could benefit each other. I find items that may be able to resell and I make a TINY bit myself. Really?? I am not bringing in expensive items or even high end items. Does she or you believe that I am trying to sell stolen property? That doesn't add up either. Who would steal off brand/off season items? I feel like I have been profiled by Mikaela and I am very offended (which is hard to do). I emailed the owner Karese Faircloth. She called me and was very defensive and told me that it was their store policy that after a certain number of new items were sold they required receipts. I asked what is the "certain number"? She refused to tell me saying it was at their discretion. So I asked what had I done to warrent this. She REFUSED to tell me. I feel completely profiled and discriminated against. I said such and was then banned from her stores. This woman is rude and unchristian at the least and at the most she is racist and bigoted. There are plenty of places to resell your items. anybody that shops there check your receipts they do false advertisement..This is the worst Once upon a child I have ever been to. I went 1/7/23 for their all marked clearance for a $1.. my total came out to be 64 and some change thinking I got 62/63 items when I got home I looked at the receipt I only bought 48 items and some of it was marked on the receipt for $3/$2. I returned on 1/8/23 because I was charged $10 and some change more then what it was supposed to be.. I only brought the stuff that was marked higher but she said she needed to see everything so I had to leave go pick everything back up and bring it back we spent 47 minutes with her checking each item matching it to the receipt also telling my mother to back up some she was resting her arm on the counter..I wasn't taking anything back I just wanted the difference if the receipt said $2 then I wanted a $1 back.. she was looking for an item that was on the receipt that she said she couldn't find well it was a swimsuit that was labeled as sleepwear I was trying to show her where it was at in the pile of clothes because she was looking for that item and she was upset because I picked up the swimsuit and she stated that wasn't sleepwear but I don't work for that company so I didn't label it.. I stated to my mother next to me I wouldn't return to that location and the old grumpy lady said that would be the best thing.. Don't bother taking clothes here to sell. I took bags of clothes that had just been washed or were still completely new with tags still on and they took nothing because they said they all had light stains. I said that's weird because I just went through all of them and washed them. Then I asked about the new clothes and they changed it to oh well we are at our store quota that's why we have to pass on everything...... sooooo it took 4 hours to realize you met you quota. Oh then when getting home I went through all the clothes and realized they were exactly how I had them so they probably didn't even look at the clothes. Not many boy clothes or older girl clothes to choose from. And when I take older girl clothes in, they don't want them. A lot of the clothes there are very worn, but again, they don't take most of what I or others bring in. The smell in this store is very strong and off putting. Some things are of good price, but then there are some things that I don't understand. I've found plenty of old navy flip flops there for $6.50.... Old navy flip flops are 2 for $5 brand new from the store... Even the character ones are only around $6 brand new from the store... read more

After walking around their store and finding that nothing was organized or in good enough condition to buy, I went back to the counter for them to offer me less than $40. No thanks. I'll pass. I would just like to say I don't normally leave a bad review but I want others to be warned. We just moved here & have always loved going to once upon a child. It's such a great place to find gently used items while also reselling other items back. However, this store was not a good experience. I have stopped in before to shop & found a few items that we have loved. We decided to come back another day to shop & sell some of my daughters items and could not believe the customer service we received. I should have known, as we were walking in & a woman was very frustrated coming out. I don't know if the manger/store owner just didn't want to go through items or what, but she was having others who were dropping off in front of me take items out of their bin and clothing because she "couldn't" take things. She tried to get me to "come back another time" so I could organize my already folded and organized bin. My point of view is that she should have just taken customers items in instead of arguing with every single person dropping off & only selecting the things you want. There's no need to be rude to customers because you don't want to work. Also if you're going to have a sign on your door stating everyone needs to wear a mask, you and your employees should as well.
