They won't accept your nice clothes and they have stained and pilly clothes hanging on their racks. They'll take your item worth fifty or sixty bucks and give you five dollars for it leaving you very sad knowing your child's toys and such are not going to help anyone because they sell them online at full price. We need to boycott Once Upon a Child. Everyone please stop going there. You'd be better off giving them away to people who need them rather than to these greedy leaches. read more

Their staff could use some politeness upon greeting customers. The very first interaction was negative. I explained it was my first time consigning with Once Upon A Child. She kept mumbling about something that I couldn't understand. The music was too loud! I started to unpack my bags. She said "No! That's my job! Feel out the top half of the form." So I completed the form. She said put bags between counter said it would be 35 mins. She finished and never said she was done. Rude. Tell the customer when you're finished no matter if they're shopping it's polite. This store lacks positivity and respectfulness. All 3 staff members talking about customers while they're shopping. This wasn't even my first issue these just gave me the "ick" from the company. The real issue is their website says they will give you cash on the spot. They offer you a Visa gift card. I brought in 5 bags of clothing, tap shoes and ballet shoes. They offered me $50 on Visa Card. That's ridiculous! I was accepting cash or a check. Worst experience ever! I needed quick cash and found old clothes from my high school years thinking they wouldn't accept them for whatever reason. The lady accepted a basket full of clothes, and an hour later were able to compensate me for everything! Nice way to donate older smaller clothes and make some extra money! read more

Dropped off a bin of clothes at this location around 2pm. I called ahead of time and asked if they needed 0-3m and 3m clothes, and they said did and would take a look at my clothes. I ask them how long they say about an hour and they'll call when it's ready. They never called. Came back at 7:00pm and they still hadn't gone through my bin. Came back at 7:45 to pick it up and they gave me $5 because they were backed up on 0-9m clothes!! That's why I called before bringing my clothes. Very frustrating! read more

**DO NOT SELL TO THIS STORE, THEY WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY FROM YOU!!!** Twice I had brought in a bunch of my child's clothes and shoes. The first time I asked if I could have them go through my clothes and just credit my account because they were busy and couldn't get to my clothes right away and I had to leave. "Sure, no problem!" was their response. About 3 months later, when I tried to use my store credit..."we don't have a credit on your account" I was super upset because that was 4 bags of items I brought in. But I didn't make a big deal about it because things happen. The next time I brought in a bunch of clothes, the same situation occurred, they couldn't get to my clothes right away,and I had to leave. I told them about the prior transaction not being credited to my account, and they assured me that it would be done properly this time. Well...the next time I went to purchase some items, the same thing happened, "we don't have a credit on your account". This time I was livid. I had them get the manager, who was some young girl who looked at my account and said "you brought in clothes and we credited $56 to your account, then you came in 5 days later and we gave you your $56 in cash" NOPE, NO, NEVER HAPPENED. I informed her that someone at this store is running a scam on the customers and stealing their money. (the quick way she dismissed my claim without even thinking about it, made me think it could be her) I had her call the owner. I don't know if the owner was even on the phone, but I was told I would get a call back. I have never gotten a call back, I have called, emailed, gone up through corporate. No one in this company seems to care at all that there is illegal activities going on. I have put a claim through the BBB, and am thinking about taking legal issue because this is theft. I have a grudge against this Once Upon a Child. every single time I've brought clothes here to sell, I've walked out of the store with almost everything I brought in. I buy most of my kids clothes at boutiques, Hanna Anderson or Old Navy so I'm not bringing them recycled K-mart stuff. I usually end up selling his stuff on Ebay. I've never found much in the way of apparel for him either. My friend gets all her kids clothes at another location of this store and she swears by them. Her boy is always dressed adorably and he has more shoes than I do, so maybe it's just this location. This review is for the store, not the consignment experience. I haven't tried consigning clothing at this location. The one upside is that I was able to find a handful of decent items of clothing for my 6-year-old fairly cheaply (it helped that they were having a sale at the time). But the selection was pretty meh. The shoes, in particular, were in terrible shape. Given what other reviewers have said about how picky they apparently are at this location about which clothes they accept, I would have expected much nicer clothes and toys. We're also in the market for baby stuff (high chairs, etc) and the ones I saw there were not anything I'd spend money on. In addition: - The store is messy. - The staff are unfriendly. - When I asked about changing rooms, the woman said "bathroom," and turned her back on me. The bathrooms are at the back of a dark little corridor and were not particularly clean. There was literally nowhere to even put clothes down or hang them. I ended up just holding a giant stack of clothes, trying to keep stuff separate and take things on and off hangers without dropping them, while my son tried on a few pairs of shorts. I drive out of my way to come to this particular location because they always take majority of what i bring in! Other locations hardly pay me anything , the last two times i brought my daughters clothes in i came out with $75 & $88. Now i do understand they dont give you what you paid initially, but i am a deal seeker and get designer clothes on sale or at marshalls, ebay, or during sale events at like gymboree and crazy 8. So the stuff i bring in is pretty pricey and usually designer , but i dont personally pay full price to begin with! I like to set her clothes aside at the end of each season and bring them in as a whole so that is why they give me so much at once. I am never disappointed ! ps. I brought 3 totes of practically new infant boy clothes to sell, after being told by the employee over the phone that they are buying "every season, every size". My son's clothes were all name brand (baby Gap, Carters, Children's Place) and I didn't bring anything that even had a hint of a stain. Of the three totes, they selected about 12 items, offered me $19, and sent me away with everything else. I'm extremely frustrated and do not plan to ever shop at this store again. Next time, I will hold my own garage sale or donate the items to Goodwill and take the tax write-off, which will probably be a better deal!!! read more

The last two times I've sold things to this location, I leave feeling very ripped off. Brand new Gymboree/ Children's place, some with tags still on. They buy for $1-$2 each and sell them for $12! My least favorite Once Upon A Child. Most of what they sell is clothes. The few books and toys they do have are poorly organized. Their prices are fairly low and the merchandise is usually clean and in reasonably good condition but what they pay for incoming items is also pretty low. read more

I like this location! They have a great selection (probably the best out of all the Twin Cities OUC stores) of toys and "equipment" (carriers, strollers), the staff are really helpful, and they have good deals. I just don't love that their selection of boys clothes is SO small compared to the girls selection, but that's at every store I shop at - so, nothing new. read more

I agree about the Customer Service...that has got to be rectified. However, let me shed some light on how the process works. Pricing: all OUAC's across the country have their prices already set into a computer system from the Head Office. When an item is selected to purchase, it is based on condition, first and foremost. Even if it's just worn once, sometimes there could be marks that you don't notice in your lights. If OUAC took everything that was brought in, it would defeat the purpose of their mission. Yes, sometimes things are missed and are put out on the racks. The employees are human too and make mistakes. Which is why some things are passed on, even if you find something similar with marks or wear--they've learned from their mistakes. Brand is only taken into consideration when it comes to pricing. Employees see so much stuff, they don't care WHAT brand your stuff is, even if it's high end la-dee-da's. As long as it's in excellent condition--the kind that would make YOU want to buy it--it gets priced by what head office has determined acceptable based on what things are selling for in stores now, how sales run and the time of year. And no matter what it is, YOU get 35%. Employees don't pick and choose what to price things at...it's not up to them. OUAC is unique in that you get your money right away...you could be going to a consignment shop which is MUCH pickier, and getting paid only when your stuff sells. And, if it doesn't sell, it gets donated and you get NOTHING. At least OUAC takes a chance and many times, the stuff goes on clearance anyways. But you still have your money. The store is not there to make you rich, or even to pay a portion of what you (foolishly) spent on a pair of jeans your kids grow out of in 2 months. It's to give people an option to recycle their clothes and get paid instead of just donating it..or going through the hassle of private sale. Don't forget...Once Upon a Child owes you NOTHING. It's up to you to bring your stuff in....and if you are unhappy about something, ASK how the process works. Being snotty on a website later doesn't get you anywhere. Speaking of snotty...not that it gives them a right, but if they are dealing with customers like these on a daily basis...no wonder they have their guards up. Do people come in to YOUR job every day and tell you how to do your job? Rudely question everything you do? I bet you'd be pretty ticked off too. Think about it. read more

I've liked purchasing items here and have found them to be in great condition. My only drawback is they don't pay a lot for items brought in, and they don't always take items I feel are in good condition. I'm happy overall read more

I have had many issues with this store, just the Maplewood location. First, as others have stated they are very picky into what they buy but yet sell the bottom line items. My sister buys my children clothes constantly and so when they grow out of them I try to sell them, she mainly buys Oshkosh, Gap, Old Navy, Gymboree, etc. Some of the clothes even had tags on them and they wouldn't accept them. One time I had to literally go through the clothes with the employee just to make sure she looked at them because she was only going to buy 2 items, and after looking through them with me she took almost half of what I brought. I also have a VIP card there where every ten dollars you spend or sell you get it stamped, well they neglected to tell me about when you sell items you should get it stamped too so the one employee that was nice had to reimburse me with more stamps. Also, the items I have bought from there were not very clean at all I have had to wash everything when I got it home, which I would do anyways but with them not buying from you because it has one extremely small stain on it but yet selling dirty things seems very odd. I just tried selling back my bassinette and swing I bought from there with their tags still on it, my daughter only used them about 3-4 times, but according to them it was "too dirty" when I washed it when I got it home, and the small stains that were on it were there for good, yet they wouldn't buy it back. And the swing wasn't dirty at all but they tried saying that it was due to the color changes in the fabric, some of it was light green some was dark. Overall they are very rude, don't even look thoroughly at the items they take in, and expect everything to be new. I mean a 80 dollar outfit with the tag still on it and they were only willing to give me 2.50 for it, seems like a scam. Yet the Roseville location seems very nice, and actually took the time to look at my items. I don't think I will EVER go back to Maplewood's location. read more
