One Bad Apple is One "Bad" Record Store... "Bad" as in AWESOME Don the owner is super nice and extremely knowledgeable. You can tell he's living his dream owning his store. The store is small but packed with a variety of vinyl, CDs, cassette tapes, & 8-tracks in different genres. On my last visit, I was able to purchase some vintage cassette tape holders. Definitely ck out One Bad Apple if you're into records and music memorabilia https://www.instagram.com/one_bad_apple_records_cv/ (buys and sells, & participates in RSD too)

Great record shop! The space is smaller than I thought it would be but still packed with enough records to spend hours going through. Owner(?) was chill and offered a comfortable environment and good conversation. He didn't even rush me after I realized that the store should've closed 20 mins ago. Reason alone to come back and spend money here. Most of the records are in great condition and priced as so. As somebody who digs for sampling I didn't find the unpriced, no name, discount crates that I'm used to, but they had some great finds nonetheless. They also had tapes, CD, some gear, etc. I recommend stopping by if you're in town.

Don was awesome! I was searching for a specific record for my brother and he called me when it came in. I'm lucky to have found such a great music store with vinyl records. He also took the time to take care of us when we came in to buy the record. We'll be back!

Record fairy spent a little over $60 for the albums pictured.

Ask the Community - One Bad Apple

Hi, Do you guys sell cassette tapes by any chance?

Yes we do. Come by and check us out.

Do you buy Record's of all sizes or music books?

Hi, we do not. Sorry. Thank you for asking.

Don. If I bring my record player over can you help set it up?

I'm on vacation right now but sure can take a look at it when I get back to the shop. All info is on our social media. See you soon.

    Do you repair turntables?

Hi Keith, we do not do any repair at all. Thanks for asking.

Can you get certain records? How are your records curated? I'd love to fine some Queen or the doors or Steve Miller band.

Hi Emily. We buy records almost every day. Our inventory is constantly changing. So, what that means is if we dont have something today, it just might come in tomorrow. We do currently have in stock Steve Miller and The Doors but out of stock on…

Do you guys carry any house records? Thanks!

Hello Michael, we do have a dance and hip hop section. I do believe there is some House lps in there. Because most of our inventory is used, it is constantly changing. We carry pretty much all genres of records. Sometimes we have it and…

They have lots of selection of music, and my bf found a vinyl that he has been looking for a long time - The Big Lebowski one. He was so happy! They also have some cool lunch boxes and posters as well plus other interesting items. Parking in Berkeley can be tough though. I was not expecting this kind of horrible customer service. It was my first time here and will definitely be my last.

I went with some family to look for records so my experience is more for the records side. The overall space is huge. I feel like it was at some point a big box retail store that was converted. The folks here are friendly and helpful and the selection and prices are great and are pretty much in line with market if not slightly lower. I ended up buying a couple of new records as they got some stock on Record Store Day here as well in addition to their usual huge inventory of used (and new) records. I even got to replace an old Rolling Stones live record that I loved (and at some point lost in my own collection). There's a big parking lot and it's fairly easy to find parking. It was a little hectic when we went, only because it was on Black Friday.

I myself was on a bowling team named the Orient Express, and I wish I still had my red team shirt with the dragon on the back. But I digress as this has been an independent record store since 1997, an offshoot of the Berkeley store on Telegraph. Digital downloads be damned, this shop is focused on physical media...CDs, DVDs, cassette tapes, Blu-rays, and of course, vinyl. Even before picking up spares at Park Bowl, I recall that moment in my youth when I made the monumental decision to switch my record purchases from vinyl to CDs. Nowadays, vinyl is making a comeback among a younger generation looking for a higher quality, more realistic sound quality. I saw these Gen Z audiophiles flipping through the long LP bins in search of the elusive underground classic their stereophonic friends could appreciate and envy. Personally I could find nuggets of my own. Albums like The Very Best of Spike Jones (Photo 10) and The Complete 2,000 Year Old Man (Photo 5) resonated with me. I was happy to see individual LPs consolidated into boxed sets like the Linda Ronstadt retrospective. Beyond the music is the expansive DVD collection of movie titles both classic and obscure. There's also books and collectible merchandise like pop-culture lunch boxes and celebrity prayer candles. I'm not sure I need a candle that deifies Aubrey Plaza, but it's good to know where I can get one. RELATED - Exploring the Haight? One of the worst selling experiences I've had at a record store…read more I dealt directly with one of the owners, AJ, and the entire interaction felt disrespectful, evasive, and extremely shady. I brought in records to sell and simply asked what he was valuing a couple of them at individually. Instead of giving me a straight answer, he got defensive, kept saying he could find them elsewhere, and repeatedly tried to steer the conversation back to one bundle price. The biggest red flag was my East Side Story record. AJ clearly had a strong interest in it, but when I asked what he valued that specific record at, he still refused to give me a direct number. If you know enough about a record to specifically want it, you should be able to tell the person standing in front of you what you're valuing it at. I do not care if a store offers me less than market value. Businesses need to make money and I understand that completely. What I do care about is transparency. Don't act like someone is stupid just because they're young. Don't dodge basic questions and expect someone to blindly accept a bundle price without understanding what you're assigning value to. The whole interaction left me feeling like he was hoping I didn't know what I had so he could get a much better deal for himself. If your prices and offers are legitimate, there should be absolutely no reason to be secretive when a customer asks how you arrived at them. Being an owner doesn't give you an excuse to talk down to people, become defensive over basic questions, or make a customer feel like you're trying to pull one over on them. Young does not mean naive. I knew enough to ask questions, and the fact that those questions were met with attitude instead of answers told me everything I needed to know. I walked out with my records, and I'm glad I did.
