Came here on a rainy day a few months ago - its located on Santa Clara street so it can be difficult to find parking, however this is a record store that is definitely a "diamond in the rough" location. This shop has a great selection of music genres, that seems to be balanced, most shops have more of an emphasis on a certain genre, but this place was well varied. I walked in not knowing if I was going to purchase anything, but walked out with a Nirvana album. The person who rang me up was incredibly friendly and was willing to chat with me for a bit too. Record stores are definitely a 3rd space for music fans, so I appreciated the dialogue and discussions on music. Regarding value, most of the contemporary genres were what you would expect regarding prices ($30-$40) however they did have deals on other not as popular genres like classical. Overall, Needle to the Groove is a downtown SJ treasure and I'll be sure to be back!

I'm not a vinyl collector but I dropped by to check out Needle to the Groove while I was in the area. It was actually really cool and there were quite a few other people shopping at the time! It was essentially a library of records, organized by years, genres, and alphabetized. I love how organized it was and everyone was just doing their own thing. They also carry old CDs and tapes as well. They also had some cheaper items, as well as rarer collectible vinyls. The storefront doesn't look like much, but it's a pretty cool place and worth a look!

Great little record store in the heart of downtown San Jose. The dude working there was very nice and informative. Nice selection of new AND used LPs. All the genres nicely organized and easy to find. Some of the records were a bit overpriced, but I did find some great LPs that didn't break my wallet. If you are in the area, stop on by. The lease in downtown SJ ain't cheap.

If you are looking for classical music then you will be in heaven as this is the stores main focus. They have a massive selection of very well organized classical music that goes deep. Well, if classical music isn't your thing, they also have a nice selection of R&B, jazz, rock and many other genres. If you are looking for hip hop they rarely get them in. It isn't that they don't want to sell them, it is just they rarely have customers that bring them in. I was able to score a first pressing copy of Led Zeppelin 4 with a rare promo sticker still on the cover. The staff here is very knowledgable, and extremely helpful. Their prices are reasonable considering the area and location with many bargains throughout the store. I can spend hours here and I never leave disappointed. Thank you, if you love vinyl then I can't recommend this place enough.

It has that nostalgic charm that makes you want to take your time and dig around for hidden gems. The worker inside was super friendly and welcoming, and I appreciated being able to browse at my own pace. Prices were fair, and the selection included everything from well-known classics to more obscure finds you don't see too often. The store is owned by The Record Man next door, which focuses more on vinyl records, so it's a nice combo if you're into all kinds of physical media. There's a small parking lot between the two shops which makes it convenient to check out both in one stop. I ended up finding a few cool items to add to my collection and will definitely come back whenever I'm in the area treasure hunting.

All records in here are just $5, which made buying here an absolute treat. I walked out with 4 LPs for the price of a lunch. The two gentlemen at the front desk were very friendly. They went in the back to look for Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode when I asked, and brought out CDs even though they did not have the vinyls. It turns out they are attached to the neighboring Record Man store, and they suggested I look there for LPs. I would definitely come back and highly recommend!

First off, I love the political signs posted on the windows, like the "everyone is welcome here except ICE". When I walked in, the store looked exactly like what I've always envisioned a cozy community bookstore to be like--filled to the brim with books and with a lot of character. I came here to sell some books and it was pretty quick--I had probably 20-25 books and the employee finished in less than 10 minutes. As I was waiting for my books, I walked around exploring. I was very impressed with the selection of fiction. There were actually quite a bit of new releases, but also older books and editions that I would likely not find at a corporate bookstore. If I had the time, I'd love to spend 1-2 hours here just browsing. I didn't expect to get much money for my books; I was actually going to donate them and didn't realize that they still buy books, so their offer was ok. I was moreso pleasantly surprised that the employee was so nice lol, and also a little chatty. Honestly the last time I sold books was probably 15-20+ years ago at Half Price Books and I remember they were always pretty rude/standoffish lol. In addition to the service, the atmosphere, and the book selection, the cherry on top for me was that they have a special shelf where you can buy a book there for 50% off for them to donate to the library at Elmwood Correctional Facility at a bit of a loss for the store. I used most of my credit from the books to get a Stephen King book for the library.

The Bad: The staff can occasionally come across as a bit unwelcoming, and I personally wish the storefront atmosphere stayed more focused on books and less on outside messaging. They sometimes price popular or trending used books higher than what you'd pay for a brand-new copy elsewhere. The Good: I absolutely love the character of this bookstore. Shelves packed floor to ceiling, creaky wooden floors, stacks of books everywhere, and even a cat roaming around the store it feels like something straight out of a fantasy novel. I've visited countless bookstores, and nothing beats the old vintage feel of this place. They have a great selection of beautiful leather-bound books, plus an excellent fantasy and sci-fi section. I especially love when they put books out in under $6! The prices at this location are better, and this store feels much more like a classic old bookstore. The Campbell location feels more like a modern bookstore, and the prices there can sometimes be higher. At the end of the day, this place is a San Jose landmark and everyone should visit it at least once. Even when I disagree with certain aspects of it, I still keep coming back because it's nostalgic.
