My wife and I were looking for a dim sum place near where we were as we walked back to our hotel, and One Dim Sum popped up on Yelp! We arrived around 4:30, and it was not a problem getting a table although the place was busy. They sat us in the window looking out on the street. The service was prompt, and the menu had a lot of options. We placed an order for seven different small dishes. In short order, the dishes arrived one by one. We were tired from the flight over, but the food picked us up. We got the chicken dumplings, the pork dumplings, the minced beef meatballs, an onion pancake, spring rolls, and a few more items. Everything seemed freshly cooked. The food was good but did not wow us. They give you soy sauce for the dim sum, but I would have liked additional sauces. I did ask for some hot sauce, and they brought me a chili oil sauce which was very good. The staff were very friendly and happy to help with any request. The price was reasonable (two of us for under $50 Euros). The decor is neat and clean. I would definitely recommend. read more

Great place to get your Dim Sum "fix" in the lower heart of Amsterdam in Overtoom. A quick walk from Leidseplein to Overtoom this is a great place if you're just checking into the Marriott and want something you know will be affordable, not a ripoff, not touristy and darn good to eat. Pluses are easy menus with photos, friendly owners and staff, large space. Minuses are it is hot inside at times. Limited beer / wine selection (hiccup) and they close at 9 PM. Finally at the tail end of a mother-daughter Europe trip, and what better way than to celebrate with some dim sum. We came in around 1 pm on a Saturday and it was half-filled. By the time we left, it was almost at capacity, so don't let the ebbs and flows of others discourage you! We had the wonton noodles, shrimp dumplings, siumai, spinach shrimp dumpling, three pocket shrimp dumpling, and pan fried dumplings. I love shrimp...maybe a bit too much. Whatever! Honestly, everything was really really good! I'm not going to flex on Yelp and list out all the different places I've had dim sum bc honestly who cares. You're reading this bc you want to know what's tasty and I'm writing this bc I know what's tasty. And let me tell you, the things we had were TASTY. Also, my mom's the harshest judge of Chinese food, and she LOVED the fried dumplings. I was a little thrown off by the way it was folded (they did it with three corners rather than the traditional dumpling shape), but delicious things come in a variety of packages. So don't judge a dumpling by its wrapper! Also, the rice wrapper of the first shrimp dumpling I had was a bit mushy, but the other ones were fine. Might've been due to coming straight out the steamer. We were pretty full by the end so even though the individual pieces were giant like back in the states (and let's be honest, of course the US would have crazy ridiculous stuffing), we left with happy tummies. read more

We had a delightful meal here on our last night in Amsterdam. We were lucky enough to arrive right before the evening rush, and even though we did not have a reservation, they were able to seat us. This is a nice restaurant, worth a visit if you miss legit Chinese food, but not a standout. I went with a small group recently, and we ordered a wide selection of dumplings, most of which were reasonably good. The standouts were the Cha Shao Bao, which are hard to screw up. The Cha Shao pork was a little more floral than I would expect, though, and that carried through in the fried rice, where the dumplings' faint floral taste was overpowering. The letdown was with the xiao long bao, which were 90% lemongrass/ginger/mincemeat filling, and maybe only 10% soup. After my visit to Vancouver, I began to get cravings for some really good dim sum. Unfortunately, most dim sum spots are rather pricey. As luck would have it, I passed by One Dim Sum and convinced friends to dine with me. Menu selection is quite nice with steamed, baked, and fried options. We ordered classic dishes: siu mai, rice in lotus leaf, sesame balls with red bean paste, steamed pork bun, steamed rice crepe with prawns, prawn fried rice, and har gow. Standouts were the siu mai, steamed pork bun (hard to mess up, though), har gow, prawn fried rice, and sesame balls with red bean paste. Rice in lotus leaf was rather bland and I ended up mixing chili oil into it. Rather than sweet soy sauce, regular soy sauce was used for the steamed rice crepe, throwing it off. Service was fantastic, with servers coming by regularly to clear plates, refill tea pots, etc. Overall, the experience was a pleasant surprise. With One Dim being so accessible to my apartment, it's probably going to become a regular spot. The price is also nice: ~25 euros per person. It won't compare to dim sum in Vancouver, San Gabriel Valley, or any number of cities with a high Chinese population. Even so, dim sum here is quite good, prices are reasonable, and the service is great. read more

I can not speak highly enough of this restaurant. One Dim Sum is the BEST dim sum I've ever eaten. We are gluten-intolerant and were provided a menu to accommodate our dietary needs. We found outstanding dishes--glass noodles with shrimp, pork and veg, shrimp steamed in rice noodles, greens sauteed in oyster sauce, hot and sour soup, and pork spare rib dim sum--all of which were off-the-charts delicious. We initially ordered quite a bit of food but our served kindly advised us, "that's too much food!" She saved us from wasting food and money. This was a dream find. I first noticed this restaurant on our way to the hotel a couple of days earlier. We were walking nearby and since we were hungry and cold we thought we would stop in and give it a try. There were no ratings so we weren't sure what to expect. The place was packed when we arrived, always a good sign. We had to wait a little bit so we used the restroom and then waited near the door. After we were seated we were greeted by our server who took our order. To our delight, they had both Jasmine tea and my special BoLay tea (pu'ur tea) available so we ordered a pot of each. We order the Gai Lan in Garlic sauce, this was amazing, the sauce was light and flavorful. We ordered the bao with the salty egg yolk, to our delight, one of the baos was shaped like a pig and both buns were quite tasty, some of the best I've had from a flavor perspective. The har gow and shu mai were also yummy as was the sticky rice. The place had been open only 2 days when we stopped in, we were surprised by this since the food is so good. If I ever get to go back to Amsterdam, this will be a stop for sure! read more
