As a big board gamer, I love that we have a board game shop in Richmond, especially in Carytown (the unofficial land of speciality shops). Although it is a bit pricey, you can always find what you need at One Eyed Jacques. If they don't have it, they can always order it for you. I love the people who work here. Not only are they kind and knowledgeable, but they'll spend time answering your questions and giving recommendations. I came here looking for a specific game for a friend's birthday. Although that particular game wasn't available, they gave me over five other engine building game recommendations in the store. Another great thing about this shop is they'll buy your Magic cards. I was able to get a good amount of credit. I recently bought a hot pink Boulder deck case for my game of Star Realms that I'm obsessed with. I also love their wall of DnD miniatures. This shop is to "die" for... yes, as soon as you walk in, you are face to face with their wall of dice! They are pretty cool! Every color and size for all your gaming adventures. I particularly liked the gold pair of dice! The game selection is unique. This is not your typical "Monopoly" type game store. I have purchased games like Settlers of Catan (multiple versions) and Ticket to Ride along with some gorgeous puzzles. And if you are into card games, this place is "decked" out! So many interesting packs to choose from. I loved the magnetic word games too, especially the Shakespeare version! They also carry popular figurines and other toys and novelties. I was pretty impressed with this little but packed local game store. I came to visit friends and since most of us were gamers, this was the obvious "sight" to bring us to see. A pretty varied and decent sized collection of games in the front and then a size-able play area in the back. They had all the popular games that I've seen but I noticed they had a pretty large collection of Star Trek figurines and games as well. One thing I particularly loved was their sale/clearance section. It's right by the play area and you'd be surprised what you can find there. They slash prices up to 50% off when games come in damaged. I bought Qwirkle for $15 and the edge of the box was just slightly indented. I know I wouldn't be able to find a better price anywhere else! I wish I can come by and check out all their sale items often but I was just a visitor in town. I recommend people to scavenge for good games in the back! We also enjoyed having some down time just playing random games they had out. WOW!! I am loving this small shop. Next time I'm in Richmond I'm definitely coming back here. An entire wall of board games to choose from, this shop is for the ultimate gamer. They were able to point me right to the a whole slew of cooperative games which is where I learned that Zombicide is THE BEST COOPERATIVE GAME EVER. Zombies aren't my thing but I did discover a new game that I might grab a certain someone for an upcoming special occasion. They have a nice selection of gaming accessories, including many many types of dice in different colors. They also had small little fun things that would be great for the gamer in your life. Best of all - there was a huge section in the back for folks to play games. I saw lots of people playing Magic. I'm not sure if that's organized or if it's just open play but I wouldn't put it past them to organize tournaments. BONUS - for those on a budget head straight to the back of the store for a "scratch & dent" section for 50% off. HALF PRICE people!! I was impressed.People must really take their board games seriously for them to sell them at half price. My boyfriend would be absolutely all over this place if it was in Atlanta. For table top gaming enthusiasts there in no equal, not anywhere around here anyway. Most people are used to gaming and comic books being seemly inter-meshed with the majority of stores cratering to at least some of both. In Richmond however the nerdy ecosystem evolved a little differently. One eyed Jacques is a purely gaming store with no comics or books of any kind, save D&D dungeon master guide books etc. This really has a wonderful effect. I will be the first the show strong support for the unity and even synergy that exists between all of the world's nerdiest pursuits. And there are many gaming/comic shops that I love to bits. But having a brick and mortar store completely dedicated to gaming is amazing. It guarantees simply the best selection and highest quality of table top game offering in the area. To put it simply, if its a table top game, they have it. AND if it's a game worth playing, they probably have a league for either casual or competitive play or both. And the gaming community that has grown around these various games are as virtuous, friendly, and kindhearted a community as you could hope for. SO whether you are are battle hardened elite pro, a cautious noobie, or just interested to see what cool games they might have, or even just wanna spectate and inhale some high quality nerd funk this is definitely the place for you. The thing about this place is that the customer service isn't amazing. First of all, the salespeople are really hit or miss. A few of them are awesome, super helpful and polite. Several of them are at best not helpful and at worst downright rude and condescending. The other issue is, as a MTG player, their system for filing their cards absolutely sucks. If you're looking for something rare, yeah, they probably have it stocked in a way they can find it. If it's not especially rare, everything is thrown into these ridiculous boxes. First of all, it's almost impossible to find anything, and it takes FOREVER to try. If you just want to grab something quickly, forget it. Second of all, you're usually stuck raking through them with a bunch of other people, which is not a lot of fun, especially if you aren't interested in making conversation. Further, if you've gone through the effort to trudge through the boxes and find a rare in, say, the $1 bin, they won't always honor that price. If you can't be bothered to properly check your stock and I've done the work to search through it, you should definitely honor the price you stocked it at. Frankly, there are a lot of other stores in the RVA area that have better customer service and actually catalog everything they have so you can just call, see if they have what you actually want, and buy it. Not to be obnoxious about it, but I'm happy to spend a fair amount of money on these cards, and honestly I'd rather do it where I'm getting decent customer service and not wasting a ton of time where I may or may not find what I want - I might as well drive to the place that will have it ready for me with a smile. read more

I keep coming back. The have a great collection of mtg items and accessories, I especially enjoy looking through the bulk cards, you can find some gems in there! Sleeves, deck boxes, all of it, they got it. The staff is friendly and helpful. Going to one eyed Jacques on my days off are often the highlight of my busy week. This is an awesome gaming store. In addition to selling games of all sorts and sizes, they also have tables in the back for tournaments. I love game stores that cultivate a gaming community. They even stock and sell assorted drinks (soda, water etc). There was some big magic the gathering release going on, so we weren't interested in that part, but it was still nice to wander around. The game selection was pretty impressive, and prices are about at par for what I'd expect. However, the reason you HAVE to stop in here if you're a gamer is the back wall. They have an entire section of games with damaged boxes for deep discounts (up to 50% off). Sure, having that pristine box is nice when you open it, but let's be honest, a few trips in the car and you'll have dented and scuffed it up in no time, so take the discount. These weren't no-name games either - I saw Settler's expansions, Dixit among many others. read more

Awesome game store, Richmond. Kudos. This place has the prerequisite supplies that makes a game store. Miniatures for tabletop strategy (Warhammer etc. etc). CCGs like Magic, RPGs like D&D and shelves of card and board games. One thing awesome about this place is the Ding and Dent section (or was it Scratched and Scrunched section? I don't remember the exact words they used). This is where you will find games (mostly board games) with superficially to moderately damaged boxes sold at a huge discount. After surveying the games, some are half off despite having just superficial damage to the box. I'm glad they do this. People I know wouldn't mind buying games in this state for a substansial discount. I'd give this place 5 stars if the store clerks were a bit friendlier. One of them answered the phone and when asked how he was, didn't answer and said, "how can I help you?" I would be more inclined to buy from a store where the staff was friendly and approachable, as opposed to gruff and stand-offish. Awesome game store, Richmond. Ok, after going to a few game shops I feel like I can give Jacques an honest review. They have just about everything that you need to get your geek on. If they don't have it- they'll order. The organization is great. I did not appreciate it at the time, but all their miniatures are on pegboard in ascending model numbers. They have the catalog at the counter so you can ind the one you want, then go to the board to see if it is in stock- Great. They also have 3 big tables in the back for gaming. On Friday nights there were games of AD&D, Magic and War Hammer going on. Joining any was quite easy and not intimidating. Oh and the store was open until 12:30 so the games could go on, and on... This is heaven for anyone who is into card games, tabletop games, basically any sort of game other than video. I really respect that they stay true to their clientele and focus on what they're obviously so passionate about, especially because there are so many other places in the area to look for video games. Even with a store full of people playing a huge variety of different games, the staff were friendly and polite and made sure my questions were answered with a lot of enthusiasm and knowledge. I bought an expansion pack for CAH and it was at 100% mark up. I am really disappointed with this because I always thought this store to be fairly priced. I went across the street to World Of Mirth and they told me I had severely over paid and even showed me online pricing and their own. I get it, it's a small business but a 100% mark up is horrible. Another item was marked up by 200%. I wont be returning the item for a refund since it is a small business, but I suggest everyone double check pricing before buying anything from them again. There staff is always friendly so thats a big plus, I have been a loyal customer for a long time, but this just made me feel taken advantage of. read more

This has been my single go-to place for all my tabletop gaming needs. They have a nice, attractive stock of board games up front, along with other novelty knick knacks, and their dice is right up at the entrance.
