It is crowded, and tight. So try to go when it is an off time. We went during a holiday event in Ashland, VA. But, the selection for model trains and tracks is great! They had a small selection of accessories. They also had a good selection of train set that you could buy. They also repair trains. It is by far a nice store. Just have patience if it is business. read more

I've stopped here twice now on travels south - at first glance great store with a lot of high-end trains for sale from MTH, Lionel, Atlas, etc. Definitely the kind of store we don't see much of! Not to mention, great location! Taking a closer look I started noticing the prices - every engine I looked at was priced OVER the suggested retail price. Not slightly overpriced either - I saw one engine I was particularly interested in, a Seaboard Decapod from MTH. Sticker price was $1,095. Go online to MTH's website and the MSRP is $999. It seemed things were priced anywhere from $10-$100 over the suggested retail price. I'm not trying to get the best deal in the world (I would rather spend a bit more to buy local than the discount stores) but I have an issue with things being priced over the suggested retail price. Feels slimy to me. Not the first issue I've encountered here. At the big York train show they had the Strasburg passenger cars. Lionel sold them as $400 for a 2-pack. The advertising at the show seemed to suggest Tiny Tims was selling the 2 pack for $220. I was ready to buy as that was the best deal but as I was about to pay, it was $220 per car so $440 for the 2 pack - $40 over sticker price. Really? Funny they still had them on the wall of the store. when I went in on Saturday. I ended up ordering them from Charles RO for $375 for 2 cars, shipped to my front door. I also just didn't like being completely ignored when I was in there on Saturday. No hello, no how are you, etc. Seemed to be much more interested in a family with young kids and one of the regulars that walked in as once the family left, the person working in the store ran over to chum it up with the regulars. I don't need help but some sort of acknowledgement would have been nice. I wanted to ask about that Seaboard Decapod engine and see if we could at least get them down to the MSRP price but I just walked out instead. read more

Went to Ashland for the meat market and walked around downtown since it was my first time in this cute little area. Came across this toy store and BF wanted to go inside so we did and it was like stepping back in time, in the best childhood recollection way. If you like trains, this is the place for you. There are trains galore, as well as tons of toys and games that you rarely find or see played with today. My 8YO self came out and I grabbed jacks, paddle balls and jumbo punching balloons, you know the ones you got at the circus or fair that make the loud smacking noise as you punch it around . If you ever feel the need to be a kid again or take a trip down memory lane then Tiny Tim's can help with this. Very helpful and has a lot of toys and trains would recommend for anyone with kids or anyone who loves trains

This is the best toy store in the Richmond and surrounding area! My son took a big tumble at a park before we went into the store, and the owner went out of her way to help re-bandage his knee. She also let him conduct the remote controlled trains. The other staff member was so friendly and helped us pick out a unique toy for a friend. This place is truly magical and well worth the drive from Richmond (about 20 mins). read more

Tiny Tim's is a destination unto itself where the sounds of toy trains are punctuated with the thunderous clanging of real trains that run though the road of the storefront. Model Trains of all makes and sizes interweave with a full toy store where you will be helped by experienced train masters like Mr. Russell who has become the hero of my five year old boy. We bought a train set and we were very happy to have a place where we could find helpful suggestions along with accessories and more to set up our train table. read more

Glad Ashland has some variety in the small businesses but snarky remarks and poor communication on phone might cause customers to wonder if the man running the store really wants your business. If you want trains he might be able to give more helpful and polite responses. read more

Great shop. We went because he needed a model train locomotive repaired, drop off process was easy and was repaired in a couple of days (this was in December which I imagine is a high demand period for them). Everyone on the staff we talked to was knowledgeable and very friendly especially with our 3 year old daughter. Needless to say we showed up for a repair and we left with a fixed locomotive and a lot of other stuff. read more

Fun little shop with surprisingly large collection inside. Friendly and knowledgeable owner. Located within a neighborhood of eclectic small businesses and restaurants near the Ashland museum. We happened to be traveling through the area, but it would be worth a day trip to go visit. read more

Holy smoke, I thought I reviewed this place a long time ago! Time to make up for it... Oh brother, this place is fun, fun, fun! And not just for the toy train hobbyist, but for all those young and young at heart. A full-line train store with O, HO, G, and N gauge merchandise and supplies, track, scenicking, buildings, and all the ancillaries. Plus a knowledgeable train-savvy staff to help you in your selections. As if that wasn't good enough it's right in the center of Ashland VA where the CSX train line comes through, so you get some real train action in addition to your toy train action. Plus, a fun selection of toys on hand for the little ones that you don't see anywhere else. I've been going there since it opened over a year ago and enjoy each trip. A friend told me about this toy store yesterday and I took my littles and went to check it out today. We were in there forever! This is a great little store with lots to offer. Lots of train stuff for the train enthusiast but loads of other fun things, too. It was hard to get the kids to leave - they were having so much fun. There's a race track, legos and a train table all set up in the back for them to play with while mom and dad shop. You can also rent the place out for small parties. The owner was the one working this afternoon and she was very nice and super helpful. I will definitely be recommending this local business to other parents and friends! I really enjoyed visiting this store with two four year old grandsons. Their back room had a great selection of toys. The clerk gave us a great recommendation to the library across the street where the boys played with a big set of trains on a large table for two hours and had a repeat visit the next day. She also recommended a park for them to play in. read more

Cute little train/toy store with a friendly owner. I dropped off an expensive LGB loco for repair, however, and got it back slightly damaged and not working properly. Since I had made the trek from an hour and a half away, I was pretty annoyed. Called to advise the shop and seek remedy, but no one ever called me back. In the end, very disappointing. read more
